Coverage across the Glasgow area

Multi-site organisations in the Glasgow area, such as councils, housing providers, schools and health providers, can arrange automatic door refurbishment for every building through one contact. Each site gets its own written price and its own record. Smaller customers, from corner shops to private homes, follow exactly the same process. The towns we list here, 5 in all, appear below.

What to think about for automatic door refurbishment in the Glasgow area

  • Glass and made-to-measure leaves are typically 2 to 4 weeks from order. Plan the work around that lead time, especially if a damaged leaf is temporarily boarded.
  • Busy retail units in the Glasgow area may prefer the work done in stages, one leaf at a time, so the entrance stays open throughout trading hours.
  • Exposed entrances in the Glasgow area suffer most from worn seals and brush strips. New weatherproofing can cut draughts and noise noticeably, especially on doors facing the prevailing wind.
  • High street doors in the Glasgow area often have scratched or etched glass from years of cleaning and graffiti. Replacing leaves with new safety glass restores a clean look.
  • Floors around the door in the Glasgow area may be worn or uneven. New floor guides and thresholds sometimes need small areas of making good, which the quote lists separately.

Standards and rules in Scotland

Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible. BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them.

Whoever motorises a manual door, or builds an automatic door from separate parts, may take on the manufacturer’s legal duties for the finished door: a risk assessment, a technical file kept available for the authorities, a Declaration of Conformity, the conformity marking and instructions. You receive the Declaration of Conformity and the instructions at handover. In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking.

Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.

How it works

  1. Send photos and the address. A few pictures of the door from both sides, the address in the Glasgow area and a note of who uses the entrance help us understand the job before anyone visits the site.
  2. No-cost survey on site. We arrange a survey at a time that suits the building. The engineer records measurements, fixings and power, plus any constraints such as listed status, opening hours or access for deliveries.
  3. Itemised quote to approve. We price every element of the work on automatic door refurbishment separately in a written quote that you can check, share and approve. Lead time and payment stages are stated, and nothing is ordered until you accept.
  4. Fit, test and hand over. On the agreed dates the engineer installs the equipment, commissions the operator and tests each safety function. You get a demonstration, the test record and any conformity paperwork that applies to the work.

Bring a tired entrance in the Glasgow area back to life. Ask for a fixed quote for new glass, rollers, seals or a level threshold, with no obligation.

Automatic door refurbishment in the Glasgow area: questions

Can you refinish the frame of our door in the Glasgow area?

Yes. Aluminium frames can be cleaned, repaired and recoated on site to refresh their colour. Badly damaged sections may need replacing rather than refinishing. Refinishing is listed separately in the quote, so you can decide whether to include it now or leave it for a later phase.

How are prices worked out for automatic door refurbishment in the Glasgow area?

Our guide starts from £395 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in the Glasgow area confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Do you set up the door again after refurbishing it in the Glasgow area?

Yes. New running parts change how the leaves move, so speeds, sensor zones and obstacle detection are checked and reset before handover. You receive a record of the parts fitted and the test results to keep with the door's service history.

Can you refurbish a door in the Glasgow area that another company installed?

Yes. We refurbish doors whoever fitted them. The survey identifies the door system, and matching or equivalent rollers, guides, seals and glass are then sourced for it. If a part is no longer made, the quote explains the alternative.

How much disruption should we expect while the work is done in the Glasgow area?

Most installations take one visit or a short series of visits, with dust and noise kept to the area around the door. The engineer screens off the work area, keeps a route in or out where possible and clears up before leaving. Larger entrances, lobbies or structural changes take longer, and the quote explains how that work is phased.

Can automatic doors be fitted to a listed building in the Glasgow area?

Often, yes, but listed building consent is normally needed for changes that affect the character of the building, inside or out. Slim operators, concealed fixings and automating the existing door can all reduce the visual impact. Speak to the conservation officer at the local planning authority early; we can provide drawings and specifications to help.

Is a building warrant needed for a new automatic entrance in the Glasgow area?

Often, yes. Most building work in Scotland needs a building warrant before it starts, and the non-domestic Technical Handbook sets out what an accessible entrance should provide, including a clear opening of at least 800 mm. We tell you at the survey if your job is likely to need one.
