What to think about for automatic door repairs in Fife
- Opening hours matter when booking a repair in Fife. If your premises close early or open late, mention it so the engineer can work while the entrance is quiet.
- Grit and stones in the floor guide are a frequent cause of doors sticking or stopping short. Sweeping the threshold and track area regularly prevents many breakdowns.
- Busy high street shops in Fife lose trade quickly when the entrance fails. Keep the programme switch key where staff can find it, so the door can be set to a safe mode while you wait.
- Leisure centres, schools and public buildings in Fife may need a contractor induction or permit before work starts. Send any site rules with your booking so the visit can go ahead first time.
- For surgeries, clinics and care settings in Fife, a door that will not open can stop wheelchair users getting in. Plan an alternative accessible entrance and clear signs while the repair is arranged.

Standards and rules in Scotland
Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance. HSE guidance on those regulations says the frequency of maintenance depends on the equipment and the manufacturer’s information.
No law sets a fixed service interval. We recommend that a trained engineer checks the safety functions at least once a year, with service intervals set by the manufacturer’s instructions and how heavily the door is used, and that someone on site carries out simple regular checks and keeps a record.
BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them. Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible.
How it works
- Explain the problem. Whether the door is stuck, slow, noisy or due its next check, a short description and a few photos tell us which kind of visit to book for automatic door repairs and what to bring.
- Visit cost agreed. You get the visit price in writing before we book the engineer. There are no hidden extras: parts and further work are always quoted separately and in advance.
- Engineer on site. The engineer inspects the operator, sensors, tracks and leaves, carries out the repair or service, and runs the door through its safety tests before it goes back into use.
- Follow-up quoted. You are sent a record of the visit. If something else needs attention, we quote it in writing; for doors on a service plan, the next visit date is noted on the record.
Send us a photo of the faulty door and its operator label in Fife. We will confirm the visit price in writing and offer the earliest engineer visit available.
Automatic door repairs in Fife: questions
Do you repair automatic doors in Fife?
Yes. We take the booking, agree the price and manage the job, and the visit in Fife is made by a specialist automatic door engineer working under our management. The engineers we send work on sliding, swing, folding and revolving doors from most makers, including doors we did not install. The visit price is confirmed with you in writing before the engineer is booked.
What will automatic door repairs in Fife cost?
Our guide starts from £95 excluding VAT (visit including the first hour), the same guide price we use across the UK. For homes that is from £114 including VAT. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends in Fife, and quote any parts or further work before doing them. The price guide lists typical repair and service costs.
Can you tell me the cost before visiting my premises in Fife?
We always confirm the visit price before attending. For some faults, photos of the door and the operator label let us price the repair itself in advance. Where the cause needs testing on site, parts and extra work are quoted after diagnosis and only go ahead if you agree.
Do engineers carry spare parts for doors in Fife?
Engineers carry common parts such as sensors, belts and some rollers. Controllers, motors and parts for less common doors are ordered once the fault is confirmed, and delivery is typically 1 to 3 weeks. Knowing the make and model in advance improves the chance of a repair during the first visit.
How soon can an engineer get to Fife?
We do not promise response times. When you book, we give you the earliest date we can offer and confirm it once the price is agreed. If the door is unsafe in the meantime, it is usually best to switch it off or set it to a safe mode, put up a sign and keep people clear of it.
Do you leave a written record after each visit in Fife?
Yes. Every visit ends with a written record of what was checked, what was done and anything that still needs attention. For safety inspections you receive a report of the findings and a site-specific risk assessment. Keeping these on file is the usual way to show that a workplace door is maintained and in good working order.
Do businesses in Fife have to fit automatic doors?
No law requires automatic doors everywhere. Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, and Scottish guidance says powered doors improve accessibility at entrances. An automatic door is often the practical answer.
