Covering Oban and nearby

We do not keep premises in Oban. Instead, enquiries about automatic door repairs come to us, we agree the price in writing, and a specialist engineer working under our management travels to the address in the PA34 postcode district on a date that suits the site.

Libraries, health centres and council buildings in Oban still need accessible entrances, whatever their size. A single automatic door with a push pad or touch-free switch is often enough to give everyone easy access.

What to think about for automatic door repairs in Oban

  • Leisure centres, schools and public buildings in Oban may need a contractor induction or permit before work starts. Send any site rules with your booking so the visit can go ahead first time.
  • Doors knocked by trolleys, pushchairs or deliveries often go out of line. Repeated impacts damage rollers and floor guides, so it helps to know roughly when the fault first appeared.
  • Older shopfronts in Oban may have automatic doors with discontinued drive units. Ask whether parts are still available before agreeing to a large repair, as a new operator may be better value.
  • Wet and windy weather causes many false openings. Sensors over exposed entrances can react to rain and blowing leaves, and a small change to the detection zone often cures it.
  • Shopping parades and business parks in Oban can have restricted parking or loading. Tell us where an engineer can park and unload tools when you book the visit.

Standards and rules in Scotland

Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance. HSE guidance on those regulations says the frequency of maintenance depends on the equipment and the manufacturer’s information.

BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them. Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible.

How it works

  1. Make contact. Phone, email or use the form. Tell us the type of door, what it is doing and whether it is safe to use, so the right visit for automatic door repairs can be planned.
  2. Written visit price. The cost of attending is agreed in writing before the visit is booked. For a planned service or inspection, the price per door and what each visit includes are set out at the same time.
  3. On-site work. The engineer, working under our management, checks the door from end to end, deals with the fault or the service, and tests every safety function and sensor setting before signing the door off.
  4. Report and quote. You receive a report of the findings. Where a repair, part or upgrade is recommended, it is quoted in writing so you can decide, and the door is left in a safe state if it cannot be used.

Book a repair visit in Oban with the price settled up front. Parts and any further work are quoted to you before the engineer goes ahead.

Automatic door repairs in Oban: questions

What if my door in Oban cannot be repaired?

If a drive unit is obsolete, or a repair would cost close to a new operator, the engineer explains why. A new drive unit can usually be fitted to the existing frame and leaves, which costs far less than a whole new door. You receive a written quote for that, and whether to go ahead is entirely your choice.

What is the guide price for automatic door repairs in Oban?

Our guide starts from £95 excluding VAT (visit including the first hour), the same guide price we use across the UK. For homes that is from £114 including VAT. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends in Oban, and quote any parts or further work before doing them. The price guide lists typical repair and service costs.

Do you repair automatic doors in Oban?

Yes. We take the booking, agree the price and manage the job, and the visit in Oban is made by a specialist automatic door engineer working under our management. The engineers we send work on sliding, swing, folding and revolving doors from most makers, including doors we did not install. The visit price is confirmed with you in writing before the engineer is booked.

Do you keep records of repairs for buildings in Oban?

Yes. Each visit produces a written report of the fault found, the work done and any parts fitted or recommended. Facilities teams can keep these with the door's service records, which helps show the door is being maintained and makes repeat faults easier to trace.

What if a door in Oban is found to be unsafe?

The engineer explains the problem and, where needed, leaves the door in a safe state, for example switched off or set so it cannot trap or strike anyone. You receive a written note of the issue. The repair or upgrade that would put it right is quoted before any further work is carried out.

Are parts quoted before they are fitted?

Always. If a repair or service in Oban needs parts, such as rollers, belts, sensors, a control board or a motor, we quote them in writing first. Some common parts may be on the engineer's van; others are ordered once you accept the quote and fitted on a return visit at a price already agreed.

Do businesses in Oban have to fit automatic doors?

No law requires automatic doors everywhere. Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, and Scottish guidance says powered doors improve accessibility at entrances. An automatic door is often the practical answer.
