What to think about for touch-free and push-button activation in Stirling, Falkirk and Clackmannanshire

  • Shops on high streets in Stirling, Falkirk and Clackmannanshire may want the door to open for customers but not for people walking past outside. Narrowing the sensor field or adding a switch helps.
  • Clinics and surgeries in Stirling, Falkirk and Clackmannanshire often want touch-free switches on every door patients use. Sealed switch faces that stand up to cleaning products are worth specifying.
  • Wireless devices need batteries changing from time to time. Choose wired switches for the busiest public doors, and wireless where wiring would be difficult or would spoil a finished wall.
  • Doors next to busy walkways can open for every passer-by on a motion sensor. A wave switch or push pad on that side may cut false openings and heat loss.
  • Homes in Stirling, Falkirk and Clackmannanshire often need controls for more than one person. Carers, family and the person using the door may each need their own fob or button.

Standards and rules in Scotland

Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers in Scotland must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, which can include altering a physical feature such as a heavy entrance door. Fitting an automatic door helps, but does not on its own guarantee those duties are met.

Scottish building standards guidance (the non-domestic Technical Handbook) expects an accessible entrance door to give a clear opening of at least 800 mm, says powered doors improve accessibility as long as they add no new hazard, and expects signage, sensors that hold the door open long enough, and guarding against collision or entrapment.

Whoever motorises a manual door, or builds an automatic door from separate parts, may take on the manufacturer’s legal duties for the finished door: a risk assessment, a technical file kept available for the authorities, a Declaration of Conformity, the conformity marking and instructions. You receive the Declaration of Conformity and the instructions at handover. In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking.

How it works

  1. Get in touch. Call, email or use the form with the address and what you have in mind. If you are not sure which type of door suits, describe the entrance and we will suggest the options worth considering.
  2. Survey and advice. The survey costs nothing and carries no obligation. The engineer checks the site and explains which options suit the entrance, the people using it and the budget, before anything is priced.
  3. Quote in writing. You receive a fixed, itemised quote for touch-free and push-button activation in Stirling, Falkirk and Clackmannanshire, covering equipment, installation, testing and handover, with the lead time and payment stages set out clearly.
  4. Install, test, explain. The engineer installs and commissions the door, tests the sensors, safety functions and emergency behaviour, and walks you through the controls. The handover pack records what was installed and tested.

Touch-free and push-button activation in Stirling, Falkirk and Clackmannanshire: questions

Do you fit door controls for homes in Stirling, Falkirk and Clackmannanshire?

Yes. We fit wall buttons, fobs, wristbands and wheelchair-mounted switches for home door openers in Stirling, Falkirk and Clackmannanshire. For homes, prices are quoted including VAT and the survey costs nothing. Fobs can be added or removed later if carers change or one is lost.

What will touch-free and push-button activation in Stirling, Falkirk and Clackmannanshire cost?

Our guide starts from £145 excluding VAT (per switch fitted), the same guide price we use across the UK. For homes that is from £174 including VAT. The free site survey in Stirling, Falkirk and Clackmannanshire confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

How long does it take to fit activation devices in Stirling, Falkirk and Clackmannanshire?

Lead time is typically 1 to 3 weeks for the devices. On site, a single switch usually takes an hour or two, and a full set for several doors may take a day. We give the expected time on site with the quote.

Can you supply switches for several sites in Stirling, Falkirk and Clackmannanshire?

Yes. We can survey several doors or buildings and quote each one separately, keeping switch types, heights and symbols the same across all your sites. That makes doors easier to find and use for visitors and staff. Larger orders can be phased site by site.

How do you make sure the door works for disabled visitors in Stirling, Falkirk and Clackmannanshire?

We look at who uses the entrance: wheelchair users, people with walking aids, parents with buggies and older visitors. That shapes the opening width, the opening speed, the hold-open time and where push pads or sensors go. Service providers and employers have duties to make reasonable adjustments under equality and accessibility law, and an automatic door is a common one.

What happens once the installation in Stirling, Falkirk and Clackmannanshire is finished?

The engineer tests every function, including the safety sensors and the behaviour on power loss, and sets the door up with reference to BS EN 16005. You are shown how to use the controls and which simple checks to make, and you receive the handover documents, including the test record and any conformity paperwork that applies to the work.

Can a home in Stirling, Falkirk and Clackmannanshire get help paying for a door opener?

Scotland does not have Disabled Facilities Grants. Councils help through their Scheme of Assistance, which can include a grant for essential permanent adaptations. Ask your council whether a powered door opener could be included.
