Covering Tonbridge and nearby

If your building is in Tonbridge, or anywhere in the TN9, TN10 and TN11 postcode districts, we can arrange touch-free and push-button activation. Visits are booked with you in advance, timed around opening hours where that matters, and carried out by engineers who work under our management.

Care homes in and around Tonbridge often need automatic doors on corridors and day rooms as well as at the main entrance. Gentle operation, hold-open devices linked to the fire alarm and controlled exits help residents move about safely.

Nearby towns we also list for touch-free and push-button activation (straight-line distance): Tunbridge Wells (4.3 miles), Sevenoaks (6.5 miles), Crowborough (10.4 miles), Maidstone (11.6 miles), East Grinstead (13.1 miles), Orpington (14.5 miles).

What to think about for touch-free and push-button activation in Tonbridge

  • Shops on high streets in Tonbridge may want the door to open for customers but not for people walking past outside. Narrowing the sensor field or adding a switch helps.
  • Keep switch heights and symbols consistent across a site. People with sight loss or memory problems find doors easier when every switch is in the same place.
  • Think about who should open the door out of hours. A key switch or timer can change the mode at night without affecting how the door works by day.
  • Look at where people approach the door from. A switch that can only be reached once someone is already at the door, or in the leaf's path, is in the wrong place.
  • Wireless devices need batteries changing from time to time. Choose wired switches for the busiest public doors, and wireless where wiring would be difficult or would spoil a finished wall.

Standards and rules in England

Building regulations guidance in England (Approved Document M, Volume 2) says a powered opening system should be used where a self-closing entrance door would need more than 30 N at the leading edge to open, or more than 22.5 N between 30° and 60°, and expects external doors used by the public in new buildings to give at least 1000 mm of effective clear width.

Whoever motorises a manual door, or builds an automatic door from separate parts, may take on the manufacturer’s legal duties for the finished door: a risk assessment, a technical file kept available for the authorities, a Declaration of Conformity, the conformity marking and instructions. You receive the Declaration of Conformity and the instructions at handover. In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking.

How it works

  1. Describe what you need. Whether the job is touch-free and push-button activation for a busy entrance or for a single internal door, a brief description and some photos let us understand it and plan a survey visit in Tonbridge.
  2. Free visit to the site. An engineer working under our management assesses the opening, the existing door and frame, the floor and the electrical supply, and notes any access, consent or timing issues to plan around.
  3. Your fixed quotation. The quote is fixed for the work it describes and lists each item, including any removal, making good and electrical work. It also states the lead time, the payment stages and the warranty terms.
  4. Fitting and sign-off. Work goes ahead on dates agreed with you. Once fitted, the door is adjusted and its safety functions are tested and recorded with reference to BS EN 16005, and you are shown how to use it.

For homes in Tonbridge, ask about fobs, wristbands and wheelchair switches for your door opener. The home survey is free.

Touch-free and push-button activation in Tonbridge: questions

How long does it take to fit activation devices in Tonbridge?

Lead time is typically 1 to 3 weeks for the devices. On site, a single switch usually takes an hour or two, and a full set for several doors may take a day. We give the expected time on site with the quote.

What price range should I expect for touch-free and push-button activation in Tonbridge?

Our guide starts from £145 excluding VAT (per switch fitted), the same guide price we use across the UK. For homes that is from £174 including VAT. The free site survey in Tonbridge confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Can wave switches in Tonbridge be linked to our access control?

Yes. A wave switch can be set to work only after the access control system has released the lock, or to let people out freely from the inside while entry needs a card. We agree how it should behave and test it with your system at handover.

Can you supply switches for several sites in Tonbridge?

Yes. We can survey several doors or buildings and quote each one separately, keeping switch types, heights and symbols the same across all your sites. That makes doors easier to find and use for visitors and staff. Larger orders can be phased site by site.

How are payments structured for work in Tonbridge?

Payment stages are set out in the quote before you accept it. Larger or made-to-order jobs may involve a deposit and a balance on completion, while smaller jobs may be invoiced once the work is finished. Nothing is charged for the survey itself, and the terms you accept are the terms that apply.

Is there a warranty on touch-free and push-button activation?

Yes. The warranty terms for the equipment and the installation are set out in your written quote, so you can see exactly what is covered before you accept. Keeping the door serviced at the recommended intervals helps keep it in good order, and the quote explains any conditions that apply to the warranty.

Which building regulations apply to a new automatic entrance in Tonbridge?

In England the guidance is Approved Document M (Volume 2) for access, Approved Document B for fire safety and escape routes, and Approved Document K for glazing and powered doors. A new entrance can count as building work, so building control should be involved before it is ordered.
