Coverage across Northamptonshire
Enquiries about sensor upgrades and replacement come to us from right across Northamptonshire, and each one is handled the same way. Specialist automatic door engineers working under our management travel to the address, and we remain your contracting party throughout. The 6 towns we list below are a starting point, not a boundary: villages, business parks and rural sites in between are covered as well.
Towns listed in Northamptonshire: Northampton, Corby, Kettering, Wellingborough, Rushden, Daventry.
What to think about for sensor upgrades and replacement in Northamptonshire
- After a near miss at a door in Northamptonshire, keep a note of what happened and where the person was standing. It helps the engineer judge which zone the sensor failed to cover.
- If several doors at one site have the same old sensor, replacing them together keeps the doors behaving consistently and may reduce the cost per sensor.
- Rain, snow and blowing leaves can trigger radar sensors over exposed doors. Some sensors filter weather better than others, which the engineer weighs up when choosing a replacement.
- Shiny, wet or newly polished floors can confuse infrared safety sensors. Mention any recent floor changes at your building in Northamptonshire so the zones can be set for the new surface.
- Corridor doors that people walk past rather than through may work better on a touch-free switch than a motion sensor, cutting needless openings and heat loss.
Sensor upgrades and replacement in Northamptonshire: guide prices
The visit price is agreed in writing before an engineer attends; parts and any further work are quoted before they are done. Guide price: typically £195 to £495 ex VAT.
| Item | Guide price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Add or replace a safety or activation sensor | £195 – £495 | per sensor fitted, ex VAT |
| Touch-free switch or push pad | £145 – £395 | per switch, ex VAT |
| Side-screen or light-curtain protection | from £295 | per door, ex VAT; on survey |
Sensor prices cover the part, fitting and set-up. If a sensor is fitted on a visit of its own, the visit charge (from £95 ex VAT) is added, and we confirm the total in writing before an engineer attends. Each sensor is set up for the door and tested before the engineer leaves.
Standards and rules in England
Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance. HSE guidance on those regulations says the frequency of maintenance depends on the equipment and the manufacturer’s information.
No law sets a fixed service interval. We recommend that a trained engineer checks the safety functions at least once a year, with service intervals set by the manufacturer’s instructions and how heavily the door is used, and that someone on site carries out simple regular checks and keeps a record.
BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them. Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible.
How it works
- Explain the problem. Whether the door is stuck, slow, noisy or due its next check, a short description and a few photos tell us which kind of visit to book for sensor upgrades and replacement and what to bring.
- Visit cost agreed. You get the visit price in writing before we book the engineer. There are no hidden extras: parts and further work are always quoted separately and in advance.
- Engineer on site. The engineer inspects the operator, sensors, tracks and leaves, carries out the repair or service, and runs the door through its safety tests before it goes back into use.
- Follow-up quoted. You are sent a record of the visit. If something else needs attention, we quote it in writing; for doors on a service plan, the next visit date is noted on the record.

Sensor upgrades and replacement in Northamptonshire: questions
Our door in Northamptonshire closes on people. Is that a sensor fault?
It is likely, and the door should be treated as unsafe. Switch it to a safe mode, such as manual or open, and keep people away from the leaves. Tell us it is unsafe and we will give you the earliest visit we can offer, then the engineer will check the safety sensors and their zones.
What will sensor upgrades and replacement in Northamptonshire cost?
Our guide is £195 to £495 excluding VAT (per sensor fitted), the same guide prices we use across the UK. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends in Northamptonshire, and quote any parts or further work before doing them. The price guide lists typical repair and service costs.
Will new sensors stop false openings at our entrance in Northamptonshire?
Usually. Modern sensors can ignore cross traffic and detect only people moving towards the door, and the zone can be narrowed. If the entrance faces a busy street or catches heavy weather, the engineer may suggest a sensor that filters those conditions better.
Do you replace automatic door sensors in Northamptonshire?
Yes. Sensor replacement and upgrades in Northamptonshire are booked and managed by us and carried out by engineers who specialise in automatic doors. They work on sensors for sliding, swing, folding and revolving doors from most makers. The visit cost is set in writing before they attend, and each new sensor is tested before they leave.
Do you offer service contracts in Northamptonshire?
Yes. A service contract sets out how many visits a year each door receives, what each visit includes and the price, all agreed in writing before you sign. Contracts suit sites with several doors or busy entrances, because visits are planned ahead and the records stay in one place. Contract length and notice terms are shown in the agreement.
Can you price a repair in Northamptonshire from photos?
Sometimes. Clear photos of the door, the operator cover and any label showing the make and model, plus a description of what the door is doing, can let us price a likely repair before a visit. Where the cause is not obvious, we agree a diagnostic visit price in writing first and quote the repair afterwards.
Who is responsible for automatic doors on escape routes in Northamptonshire?
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 the responsible person for the premises must make sure escape routes work and fire safety equipment is maintained. Automatic doors on an escape route need fail-safe opening or break-out, set by the fire strategy.
