What to think about for revolving doors in Gloucestershire
- Night security needs thought. Decide whether the wings will lock across the drum or a night shield is needed, and how the pass door and any shutters will be secured.
- Revolving doors with curved glass drum walls have longer lead times. Allow for them in any refurbishment programme across Gloucestershire, and confirm dates before booking floor layers or shopfitters.
- Tall buildings in Gloucestershire can pull a strong draught through an open entrance. A revolving door controls this better than sliding doors, which is one reason office towers use them.
- Plan the pass door first. Wheelchair users, pushchairs and deliveries need an accessible powered door beside the drum, and it should be easy to find from the street in Gloucestershire, with clear signs.
- The fire strategy decides how people will escape. Agree with your fire risk assessor where the pass door and other exits will be before the revolving door is designed.

Standards and rules in England
Building regulations guidance treats revolving doors as not accessible on their own, so an accessible powered swing or sliding door should be provided alongside. In England, fire safety law says sliding or revolving doors must not be used for exits specifically intended as emergency exits.
In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.
Building regulations guidance in England (Approved Document M, Volume 2) says a powered opening system should be used where a self-closing entrance door would need more than 30 N at the leading edge to open, or more than 22.5 N between 30° and 60°, and expects external doors used by the public in new buildings to give at least 1000 mm of effective clear width.
How it works
- Start with a short enquiry. Use the form, phone or email. Tell us whether the work is a new door, an upgrade or an opener for a home, and we arrange the next step for your site in Gloucestershire.
- Measured survey. The free survey confirms what will fit and what the entrance needs: opening width, door type, activation, safety sensors and behaviour on power loss or fire alarm, matched to how the building is used.
- Written price, no surprises. A fixed, itemised quote sets out the specification, the work involved, the expected lead time and the warranty terms. You can ask questions or change the specification before accepting it.
- Installed and commissioned. The door is installed with as little disruption as possible, then set up and tested for its hazard zones. Before leaving, the engineer explains the controls and hands over the documents for your records.
Send photos and any drawings of the entrance in Gloucestershire, and we will come back with options for a revolving door and an accessible pass door.
Revolving doors in Gloucestershire: questions
Do we need a pass door beside a revolving door in Gloucestershire?
In practice, yes. A revolving door is not accessible on its own, so an accessible powered swing or sliding door should be provided alongside for wheelchair users, pushchairs, deliveries and anyone who needs it. It also usually forms part of the escape strategy. We design and quote both together.
What is the guide price for revolving doors in Gloucestershire?
Our guide is £29,995 to £59,995 excluding VAT (per automatic door), the same guide prices we use across the UK. The free site survey in Gloucestershire confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.
Can our reception in Gloucestershire stay open during installation?
Usually, if there is a second entrance or the pass door can be fitted first. We stage the work so the building stays secure overnight and visitors are directed clearly. Where the revolving door is the only way in, we discuss weekend or out-of-hours working, with any extra cost shown in the quote.
Should we choose manual or automatic for our building in Gloucestershire?
Manual doors suit smaller entrances with steady traffic and are simpler to maintain. Automatic doors suit busier entrances and visitors with luggage, and add sensors, stop buttons and a slow-speed mode. We explain the difference at the survey and recommend the type that fits how your entrance is used.
What should I send before the survey in Gloucestershire?
A few photos of the door from inside and outside, rough measurements of the opening, the address and a note of how the entrance is used. If the door already has an operator, a photo of any label on it helps. With that, the engineer arrives prepared, the survey takes less of your time and we can put the quote for revolving doors together more easily.
Do you service doors in Gloucestershire after installing them?
Yes. We recommend a trained engineer checks the safety functions at least once a year, with service intervals set by the manufacturer's instructions and how heavily the door is used; busy doors are often serviced more often. Servicing can follow on from the installation, with the price agreed in writing and a record left after every visit.
Do businesses in Gloucestershire have to fit automatic doors?
No law says every building must have automatic doors. Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, and building regulations guidance in England calls for a powered door where an entrance door would otherwise be too heavy to open. An automatic door is often the simplest way to meet both.
