What to think about for curved automatic doors in Gwent

  • Consider a spare curved panel for busy entrances in Gwent. It costs more at the start, but a broken leaf can then be replaced without waiting for new glass to be bent.
  • Hotel entrances in Gwent see bursts of arrivals with luggage and coach parties. Choose a diameter and clear opening that let several people and cases pass together without waiting for a second cycle.
  • If the entrance is on an escape route, the fire strategy decides how the door must behave when the alarm sounds or the power fails. Confirm this with your fire risk assessor before the design is fixed.
  • The floor must be level across the whole arc, and the matwell and floor finish need cutting to the same radius as the guides. Coordinate the floor layer with the door programme so the curves match.
  • Busy entrances with curved floor guides collect grit from the street. A good matwell and regular cleaning of the guide channels keep the leaves running smoothly around the arc.

Standards and rules in Wales

Wales has its own building regulations guidance. Approved Document M (Wales) uses a lower opening-force limit than England, 20 N at the leading edge, before a powered door is called for, and expects external doors used by the public in new buildings to give at least 1000 mm of effective clear width.

In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.

Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers in Wales must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, which can include altering a physical feature such as a heavy entrance door. New entrances and some alterations count as building work, so check with building control before the work is ordered.

How it works

  1. Describe what you need. Whether the job is curved automatic doors for a busy entrance or for a single internal door, a brief description and some photos let us understand it and plan a survey visit in Gwent.
  2. Free visit to the site. An engineer working under our management assesses the opening, the existing door and frame, the floor and the electrical supply, and notes any access, consent or timing issues to plan around.
  3. Your fixed quotation. The quote is fixed for the work it describes and lists each item, including any removal, making good and electrical work. It also states the lead time, the payment stages and the warranty terms.
  4. Fitting and sign-off. Work goes ahead on dates agreed with you. Once fitted, the door is adjusted and its safety functions are tested and recorded with reference to BS EN 16005, and you are shown how to use it.

Curved automatic doors in Gwent: questions

Can the curved door in Gwent be installed while we stay open?

Often, yes, for a half-round replacement, with the opening secured overnight and the work planned around quieter hours. A full-round door with a new roof usually needs the entrance closed for longer, so a second entrance is helpful. We agree the arrangements with you before the date is fixed.

What will curved automatic doors in Gwent cost?

Our guide starts from £14,995 excluding VAT (per entrance), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in Gwent confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Can you work with our architect or main contractor in Gwent?

Yes. Many curved doors are part of a larger refurbishment or new build. We can work from the architect's setting-out drawings, agree the structural opening, canopy and floor details with the contractor, and fit the door at the right stage of the programme so finished floors and glazing are protected.

Who looks after a curved door in Gwent once it is fitted?

You can arrange servicing with us, with each visit priced in writing beforehand. Curved doors need regular attention to the floor guides and carriages that follow the arc. A trained engineer should check the safety functions at least once a year, and busy hotel or store entrances are usually serviced more often.

What is the lead time for curved automatic doors in Gwent?

Lead times depend on the door type and what has to be made to order. As a guide, operators and accessible door kits are typically two to four weeks from order, and complete sliding entrances typically four to eight weeks from drawing approval. Curved, revolving and hermetic doors usually take longer. The expected lead time is stated in your quote.

Can installation in Gwent happen outside opening hours?

Yes. Many shops, surgeries and offices prefer work early in the morning, in the evening or at weekends, when the entrance is quietest. Tell us your constraints when you enquire and they are built into the plan. Any extra cost for out-of-hours work is shown in the written quote rather than added afterwards.

Are the rules for automatic doors different in Wales?

Some are. Wales has its own building regulations guidance: Approved Document M (Wales) calls for a powered door where opening a self-closing entrance door would need more than 20 N, lower than the figure used in England. Fire law (the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005) and the Equality Act 2010 apply as in England.
