Automatic folding doors in Leicestershire

An automatic folding door is usually fitted in a day once it has been made, typically 4 to 8 weeks from order. We plan the work around trading hours, so customers can still get in and out while it is done.

Coverage across Leicestershire

Our coverage of Leicestershire is not tied to a depot or a showroom. Engineers who carry out automatic folding doors for us travel to each site, so a farm shop down a country lane goes through the same process as a city-centre office. Every job is priced in writing before work starts, and the town list below currently numbers 8.

Towns listed in Leicestershire: Leicester, Loughborough, Hinckley, Coalville, Wigston, Melton Mowbray, Market Harborough, Oadby.

What to think about for automatic folding doors in Leicestershire

  • Folding doors have more hinges than sliding doors. Planned servicing at intervals based on how busy the door is keeps hinges, pivots and finger guards in good order.
  • Pavements in older parts of Leicestershire often slope or dip at the threshold. Bottom pivots need a level, solid floor, so the survey records levels and any work needed.
  • Busy food and drink outlets in Leicestershire may want the door to stay folded open in summer and run automatically in winter. Hold-open and automatic modes on the programme switch make that easy.
  • Terraced shopfronts across Leicestershire sometimes have timber frames and fascias that need strengthening to carry a header. The survey checks what the operator can be fixed to.
  • Check what sits beside the doorway. Displays, A-boards, bins and queues in the area where the leaves fold can stop the door or set off its sensors, so plan a clear zone.

Standards and rules in England

Building regulations guidance in England (Approved Document M, Volume 2) says a powered opening system should be used where a self-closing entrance door would need more than 30 N at the leading edge to open, or more than 22.5 N between 30° and 60°, and expects external doors used by the public in new buildings to give at least 1000 mm of effective clear width.

In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.

Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, which can include altering a physical feature such as a heavy entrance door. New entrances and some alterations count as building work, so check with building control before the work is ordered.

How it works

  1. Get in touch. Call, email or use the form with the address and what you have in mind. If you are not sure which type of door suits, describe the entrance and we will suggest the options worth considering.
  2. Survey and advice. The survey costs nothing and carries no obligation. The engineer checks the site and explains which options suit the entrance, the people using it and the budget, before anything is priced.
  3. Quote in writing. You receive a fixed, itemised quote for automatic folding doors in Leicestershire, covering equipment, installation, testing and handover, with the lead time and payment stages set out clearly.
  4. Install, test, explain. The engineer installs and commissions the door, tests the sensors, safety functions and emergency behaviour, and walks you through the controls. The handover pack records what was installed and tested.

Automatic folding doors in Leicestershire: questions

Can you fit the door in Leicestershire without closing the shop?

Usually. Most folding doors take about a day on site, and we can start early, work in the evening or at a weekend so trading carries on. The opening is secured if work runs past closing time, and any out-of-hours cost is shown separately in the quote.

Is there a guide price for automatic folding doors in Leicestershire?

Our guide starts from £5,995 excluding VAT (per door set), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in Leicestershire confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

What happens after the folding door in Leicestershire is installed?

You receive the test record, a site-specific risk assessment and user instructions, and staff are shown the programme switch and how to fold the door by hand. Planned servicing can then be arranged, with each visit priced in writing before an engineer attends.

Can a folding door in Leicestershire open with a push button instead of a sensor?

Yes. Many shops use a radar sensor so the door opens as customers approach, but push pads, wave-to-open switches or a key switch can be used instead or as well. Internal doors often use push buttons, so the door only opens when someone needs it.

What does the free site survey in Leicestershire involve?

An engineer working under our management visits the building, measures the opening, checks the frame, floor, head height and power supply, and looks at how people use the entrance. The survey is free and carries no obligation. Afterwards you receive a fixed, itemised written quote for automatic folding doors, with drawings where the door type needs them.

What happens to the old door when a new one is fitted in Leicestershire?

If the work replaces an existing door, frame or operator, removal and disposal are listed in the quote. The old door comes out only when the new one is ready to go in, so the opening is not left empty for longer than necessary. Making good to the surrounding wall, floor or ceiling is included where the quote says so.

Do businesses in Leicestershire have to fit automatic doors?

No law says every building must have automatic doors. Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, and building regulations guidance in England calls for a powered door where an entrance door would otherwise be too heavy to open. An automatic door is often the simplest way to meet both.
