Covering Chelsea and nearby

We do not keep premises in Chelsea. Instead, enquiries about automatic entrance lobbies come to us, we agree the price in writing, and a specialist engineer working under our management travels to the address in the SW3 and SW10 postcode districts on a date that suits the site.

Office entrances in Chelsea commonly combine automatic doors with turnstiles, concierge desks and card access. When the operator is wired into those systems, staff pass through quickly, visitors are let in from reception and the building locks down outside working hours.

Nearby towns we also list for automatic entrance lobbies (straight-line distance): Battersea (1.1 miles), Kensington (1.3 miles), Fulham (1.4 miles), Westminster (1.6 miles), Clapham (2.2 miles), Shepherd's Bush (2.5 miles).

What to think about for automatic entrance lobbies in Chelsea

  • Where an over-door heater is fitted, check its settings once the lobby is working. Many buildings find the heater can run at a lower setting afterwards.
  • Plan for a recessed matting well across the lobby floor. Wet shoes on a hard floor are a slip risk, and loose mats can trip people or upset floor-level sensors.
  • High street units in Chelsea often have narrow, shallow shop fronts. An internal lobby may take sales space, so a glazed porch or a sliding outer set with a swing inner set can be a better fit.
  • Two operators mean two power supplies, or one supply sized for both. Check whether there is a suitable supply at ceiling height, as cable runs across a finished foyer add cost.
  • Surgeries and clinics in Chelsea need lobbies wide and deep enough for wheelchairs, mobility scooters and people with walking frames. Avoid interlocks at public entrances unless there is a strong security reason for them.

Standards and rules in England

In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.

Building regulations guidance in England (Approved Document M, Volume 2) says a powered opening system should be used where a self-closing entrance door would need more than 30 N at the leading edge to open, or more than 22.5 N between 30° and 60°, and expects external doors used by the public in new buildings to give at least 1000 mm of effective clear width.

How it works

  1. Tell us about the entrance. Send the address, a few photos and a rough size of the opening, and say how the door is used. That is enough for us to suggest options for automatic entrance lobbies and book a survey in Chelsea.
  2. Free site survey. A specialist engineer working under our management measures the opening, checks the frame, floor, head height and power, and talks through how people use the entrance. There is no charge and no obligation.
  3. Fixed written quote. You receive a fixed, itemised written quote with the specification, lead time, payment stages and warranty terms. The price does not change unless the scope does, and any change is agreed in writing first.
  4. Installation and handover. The door is fitted on the agreed dates, then set up, tested and documented with reference to BS EN 16005. You are shown the controls and the simple checks to make, and receive the handover paperwork.

Tell us how busy the entrance is and how much space you have in Chelsea, and we will plan a lobby around it, beginning with a free site visit.

Automatic entrance lobbies in Chelsea: questions

Will our entrance in Chelsea have to close while the lobby is built?

Not for the whole job in most cases. We plan the order of work so one set of doors, or a temporary door, keeps the entrance usable, and agree any out-of-hours working in the quote. A short closure may be needed when the final set is commissioned.

Can you give me a price for automatic entrance lobbies in Chelsea?

Our guide is £14,995 to £34,995 excluding VAT (per lobby, doors and screens), the same guide prices we use across the UK. The free site survey in Chelsea confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Is a revolving door a better option than a lobby in Chelsea?

It can be where space is tight and traffic is steady, because a revolving door seals the entrance at every turn. A revolving door is not accessible on its own, though, so an accessible powered sliding or swing door is needed alongside it. We can price both at survey.

Can the lobby doors in Chelsea be locked at night?

Yes. The outer set is usually locked out of hours, and the inner set can be locked too. Locks and any access control are wired to release on the fire alarm where the fire strategy requires, and the settings are recorded at handover.

How much disruption should we expect while the work is done in Chelsea?

Most installations take one visit or a short series of visits, with dust and noise kept to the area around the door. The engineer screens off the work area, keeps a route in or out where possible and clears up before leaving. Larger entrances, lobbies or structural changes take longer, and the quote explains how that work is phased.

Can installation in Chelsea happen outside opening hours?

Yes. Many shops, surgeries and offices prefer work early in the morning, in the evening or at weekends, when the entrance is quietest. Tell us your constraints when you enquire and they are built into the plan. Any extra cost for out-of-hours work is shown in the written quote rather than added afterwards.

Which building regulations apply to a new automatic entrance in Chelsea?

In England the guidance is Approved Document M (Volume 2) for access, Approved Document B for fire safety and escape routes, and Approved Document K for glazing and powered doors. A new entrance can count as building work, so building control should be involved before it is ordered.
