Covering the City of London and nearby

If your building is in the City of London, or anywhere in the EC2V, EC3M, EC3V, EC4N, EC4R and EC4V postcode districts, we can arrange automatic door servicing. Visits are booked with you in advance, timed around opening hours where that matters, and carried out by engineers who work under our management.

Hospitals, surgeries and care homes across London deal with heavy footfall and vulnerable users at the same time. In the City of London, doors in healthcare settings are usually set up for gentle, reliable operation, with hold-open devices on fire doors linked to the alarm.

Nearby towns we also list for automatic door servicing (straight-line distance): Whitechapel (1.1 miles), Islington (1.7 miles), Westminster (2.2 miles), Peckham (2.8 miles), Camden Town (2.9 miles), Holloway (3.1 miles).

What to think about for automatic door servicing in the City of London

  • Schools and colleges in the City of London often prefer servicing during holidays or after hours. Plan visits early in the year so they fall when the buildings are quiet.
  • Floors matter. Uneven, worn or newly laid floor finishes can affect floor guides and sensor detection, so mention any recent floor work before the service.
  • Care homes and hospitals in the City of London often need visits planned around mealtimes, medication rounds and visiting hours, so the door is not out of use at the busiest times.
  • Doors on busy high streets in the City of London can cycle hundreds of times a day. Heavy use wears belts, rollers and floor guides faster, so these doors usually need more frequent visits.
  • If several buildings share one maintenance budget, a single contract with one price per door and one set of records is easier to manage than booking visits separately.

No law sets a fixed service interval. We recommend a safety check by a trained engineer at least once a year, and more frequent visits for busy doors. Repairs found during a service are quoted before they are done.

Standards and rules in England

Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance. HSE guidance on those regulations says the frequency of maintenance depends on the equipment and the manufacturer’s information.

BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them. Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible.

How it works

  1. Make contact. Phone, email or use the form. Tell us the type of door, what it is doing and whether it is safe to use, so the right visit for automatic door servicing can be planned.
  2. Written visit price. The cost of attending is agreed in writing before the visit is booked. For a planned service or inspection, the price per door and what each visit includes are set out at the same time.
  3. On-site work. The engineer, working under our management, checks the door from end to end, deals with the fault or the service, and tests every safety function and sensor setting before signing the door off.
  4. Report and quote. You receive a report of the findings. Where a repair, part or upgrade is recommended, it is quoted in writing so you can decide, and the door is left in a safe state if it cannot be used.

Automatic door servicing in the City of London: questions

Do you service revolving and folding doors in the City of London?

Yes, as well as sliding and swing doors. Revolving and folding doors have more moving parts and extra safety devices, so their services take longer and are priced accordingly. The checklist used for each door type is set out in its service report.

What is the guide price for automatic door servicing in the City of London?

Our guide starts from £145 excluding VAT (per visit, first door), the same guide price we use across the UK. For homes that is from £174 including VAT. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends in the City of London, and quote any parts or further work before doing them. The price guide lists typical repair and service costs.

Can you service doors in the City of London outside opening hours?

Visits early in the morning, in the evening or at weekends can often be arranged where the building needs it, although they may be priced differently. Tell us your opening hours and busiest times when you book, and the visit price we agree will reflect the time slot.

What happens if the service in the City of London finds a fault?

The engineer explains what they found and deals with small issues as part of the visit. Worn parts or longer repairs are quoted to you first and only carried out once you agree. The service report records the fault so it can be tracked at later visits.

Can you take over servicing of doors in the City of London from another company?

Yes. Send us the door details and, if you have them, previous service records or inspection reports. The first visit gives a baseline for each door, and its price is agreed in writing beforehand. From then on, records continue in one consistent format, whichever company looked after the doors before.

How is the visit price set for work in the City of London?

We agree the visit price with you in writing before an engineer attends. It is based on the type of door, the work requested and the location. If parts or further work are needed once the engineer has found the cause, those are quoted before they are done, so the cost never moves without your agreement.

Can a home in the City of London get help paying for a door opener?

Possibly. In England a Disabled Facilities Grant of up to £30,000 can fund adaptations that make it easier to get in and out of a home. It is means-tested and must be approved by the council before work starts, so ask your council and occupational therapist.
