Covering Stockton-on-Tees and nearby

Homes, businesses and public buildings throughout the TS18, TS19 and TS20 postcode districts can arrange automatic door repairs with us. We are the contracting party and organise every visit; the engineer, who works under our management, travels in to Stockton-on-Tees for the job rather than working from premises in town.

Weather matters for entrances that face open car parks, which is common on retail and business parks around Stockton-on-Tees and elsewhere in County Durham. Exposed doors can be pushed by wind and let heat escape, so draught lobbies, good seals and correctly set sensors are worth considering.

Nearby towns we also list for automatic door repairs (straight-line distance): Billingham (1.8 miles), Thornaby-on-Tees (2.5 miles), Middlesbrough (3.4 miles), Yarm (4.7 miles), Hartlepool (9.2 miles), Darlington (9.8 miles).

What to think about for automatic door repairs in Stockton-on-Tees

  • Wet and windy weather causes many false openings. Sensors over exposed entrances can react to rain and blowing leaves, and a small change to the detection zone often cures it.
  • Leisure centres, schools and public buildings in Stockton-on-Tees may need a contractor induction or permit before work starts. Send any site rules with your booking so the visit can go ahead first time.
  • Glass damage needs prompt action to keep people safe. Switch the door off, keep people back from the broken leaf and tape or board the glass if that can be done safely.
  • Opening hours matter when booking a repair in Stockton-on-Tees. If your premises close early or open late, mention it so the engineer can work while the entrance is quiet.
  • Shopping parades and business parks in Stockton-on-Tees can have restricted parking or loading. Tell us where an engineer can park and unload tools when you book the visit.

Standards and rules in England

BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them. Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible.

Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance. HSE guidance on those regulations says the frequency of maintenance depends on the equipment and the manufacturer’s information.

How it works

  1. Share the details. Send the address in Stockton-on-Tees, the door type and make if you know it, and a description or video of the problem. For servicing, tell us how many doors there are and how busy each one is.
  2. Price confirmed in writing. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends. Some straightforward repairs can be priced in full from photos and the make and model of the door.
  3. Diagnosis and repair. A specialist engineer attends on the agreed date, finds the cause, repairs or services the door, and tests its operation, sensors and safety functions with reference to BS EN 16005.
  4. Written record. Each visit ends with a written record for your files. Anything still outstanding, such as parts on order or recommended upgrades, is quoted before any further work is done.

Book a repair visit in Stockton-on-Tees with the price settled up front. Parts and any further work are quoted to you before the engineer goes ahead.

Automatic door repairs in Stockton-on-Tees: questions

Is it safe to keep using a faulty automatic door in Stockton-on-Tees?

It depends on the fault. A slow or noisy door may be safe to use until the visit, but a door that strikes people, closes unexpectedly or has damaged glass should be switched off and kept clear. If you are unsure, switch it off and use another entrance until an engineer has checked it.

How are prices worked out for automatic door repairs in Stockton-on-Tees?

Our guide starts from £95 excluding VAT (visit including the first hour), the same guide price we use across the UK. For homes that is from £114 including VAT. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends in Stockton-on-Tees, and quote any parts or further work before doing them. The price guide lists typical repair and service costs.

Can you tell me the cost before visiting my premises in Stockton-on-Tees?

We always confirm the visit price before attending. For some faults, photos of the door and the operator label let us price the repair itself in advance. Where the cause needs testing on site, parts and extra work are quoted after diagnosis and only go ahead if you agree.

Do you repair automatic doors in Stockton-on-Tees?

Yes. We take the booking, agree the price and manage the job, and the visit in Stockton-on-Tees is made by a specialist automatic door engineer working under our management. The engineers we send work on sliding, swing, folding and revolving doors from most makers, including doors we did not install. The visit price is confirmed with you in writing before the engineer is booked.

Do you offer service contracts in Stockton-on-Tees?

Yes. A service contract sets out how many visits a year each door receives, what each visit includes and the price, all agreed in writing before you sign. Contracts suit sites with several doors or busy entrances, because visits are planned ahead and the records stay in one place. Contract length and notice terms are shown in the agreement.

How often should automatic doors in Stockton-on-Tees be serviced?

No law sets a fixed interval. We recommend a trained engineer checks the safety functions at least once a year, with service intervals set by the manufacturer's instructions and how heavily the door is used; busy doors are often serviced more often. Site staff should also carry out simple regular checks and keep a record of them.

Do businesses in Stockton-on-Tees have to fit automatic doors?

No law says every building must have automatic doors. Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, and building regulations guidance in England calls for a powered door where an entrance door would otherwise be too heavy to open. An automatic door is often the simplest way to meet both.
