What to think about for automatic door repairs in Cambridge

  • Opening hours matter when booking a repair in Cambridge. If your premises close early or open late, mention it so the engineer can work while the entrance is quiet.
  • Leisure centres, schools and public buildings in Cambridge may need a contractor induction or permit before work starts. Send any site rules with your booking so the visit can go ahead first time.
  • Shopping parades and business parks in Cambridge can have restricted parking or loading. Tell us where an engineer can park and unload tools when you book the visit.
  • Grit and stones in the floor guide are a frequent cause of doors sticking or stopping short. Sweeping the threshold and track area regularly prevents many breakdowns.
  • A door with battery backup may show a fault, or fail to open in a power cut, when its battery is worn out. Batteries are a routine replacement part rather than a major repair.

Standards and rules in England

BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them. Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible.

Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance. HSE guidance on those regulations says the frequency of maintenance depends on the equipment and the manufacturer’s information.

How it works

  1. Share the details. Send the address in Cambridge, the door type and make if you know it, and a description or video of the problem. For servicing, tell us how many doors there are and how busy each one is.
  2. Price confirmed in writing. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends. Some straightforward repairs can be priced in full from photos and the make and model of the door.
  3. Diagnosis and repair. A specialist engineer attends on the agreed date, finds the cause, repairs or services the door, and tests its operation, sensors and safety functions with reference to BS EN 16005.
  4. Written record. Each visit ends with a written record for your files. Anything still outstanding, such as parts on order or recommended upgrades, is quoted before any further work is done.

Send us a photo of the faulty door and its operator label in Cambridge. We will confirm the visit price in writing and offer the earliest engineer visit available.

Automatic door repairs in Cambridge: questions

How soon can an engineer get to my door in Cambridge?

That depends on engineer availability around Cambridge when you contact us, so we do not promise a time. Tell us whether the door is stuck open, stuck shut or unsafe, and we will tell you the earliest visit we can offer. Meanwhile, set the door to a safe mode and keep people away from the leaves.

What price range should I expect for automatic door repairs in Cambridge?

Our guide starts from £95 excluding VAT (visit including the first hour), the same guide price we use across the UK. For homes that is from £114 including VAT. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends in Cambridge, and quote any parts or further work before doing them. The price guide lists typical repair and service costs.

Can you repair revolving doors in Cambridge?

Yes. The engineers we send work on automatic and manual revolving doors as well as sliding and swing doors. Revolving doors have extra safety devices, such as stop buttons and edge sensors, which are all tested after a repair. Parts for some revolving doors take longer to source, so photos of the drive and control panel help us prepare.

Do engineers carry spare parts for doors in Cambridge?

Engineers carry common parts such as sensors, belts and some rollers. Controllers, motors and parts for less common doors are ordered once the fault is confirmed, and delivery is typically 1 to 3 weeks. Knowing the make and model in advance improves the chance of a repair during the first visit.

Which makes of automatic door can you work on in Cambridge?

Engineers working under our management work on most makes of automatic door, including sliding, swing, folding, telescopic and revolving types. Some older or obsolete operators have limited parts availability. If that applies, we explain the options, which may include a replacement drive unit on the existing frame, and quote them before anything is ordered.

How soon can an engineer get to Cambridge?

We do not promise response times. When you book, we give you the earliest date we can offer and confirm it once the price is agreed. If the door is unsafe in the meantime, it is usually best to switch it off or set it to a safe mode, put up a sign and keep people clear of it.

Who is responsible for automatic doors on escape routes in Cambridge?

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 the responsible person for the premises must make sure escape routes work and fire safety equipment is maintained. Automatic doors on an escape route need fail-safe opening or break-out, set by the fire strategy.
