Coverage across Cumbria

Our coverage of Cumbria is not tied to a depot or a showroom. Engineers who carry out automatic door refurbishment for us travel to each site, so a farm shop down a country lane goes through the same process as a city-centre office. Every job is priced in writing before work starts, and the town list below currently numbers 5.

What to think about for automatic door refurbishment in Cumbria

  • Office blocks and business parks in Cumbria with several matching doors can refurbish them together for a consistent finish and a lower cost per door.
  • Older shopfronts with discontinued door systems may need equivalent parts rather than exact matches. The survey identifies what is still available before anything is ordered.
  • Busy retail units in Cumbria may prefer the work done in stages, one leaf at a time, so the entrance stays open throughout trading hours.
  • Care settings in Cumbria benefit from level thresholds and smooth-running leaves that do not snag walking frames, trolleys or wheelchair footplates as people pass through.
  • High street doors in Cumbria often have scratched or etched glass from years of cleaning and graffiti. Replacing leaves with new safety glass restores a clean look.

Standards and rules in England

Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible. BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them.

Whoever motorises a manual door, or builds an automatic door from separate parts, may take on the manufacturer’s legal duties for the finished door: a risk assessment, a technical file kept available for the authorities, a Declaration of Conformity, the conformity marking and instructions. You receive the Declaration of Conformity and the instructions at handover. In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking.

Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.

How it works

  1. Describe what you need. Whether the job is automatic door refurbishment for a busy entrance or for a single internal door, a brief description and some photos let us understand it and plan a survey visit in Cumbria.
  2. Free visit to the site. An engineer working under our management assesses the opening, the existing door and frame, the floor and the electrical supply, and notes any access, consent or timing issues to plan around.
  3. Your fixed quotation. The quote is fixed for the work it describes and lists each item, including any removal, making good and electrical work. It also states the lead time, the payment stages and the warranty terms.
  4. Fitting and sign-off. Work goes ahead on dates agreed with you. Once fitted, the door is adjusted and its safety functions are tested and recorded with reference to BS EN 16005, and you are shown how to use it.

Automatic door refurbishment in Cumbria: questions

Can you refurbish a door in Cumbria that another company installed?

Yes. We refurbish doors whoever fitted them. The survey identifies the door system, and matching or equivalent rollers, guides, seals and glass are then sourced for it. If a part is no longer made, the quote explains the alternative.

Can you give me a price for automatic door refurbishment in Cumbria?

Our guide starts from £395 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in Cumbria confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Will our entrance in Cumbria stay open during refurbishment?

Often, at least in part. Many jobs can be done one leaf at a time, and the work can be planned for quieter hours. If the entrance does need to close, the quote says for how long, so you can arrange another way in for staff and visitors.

Can you replace a single broken glass leaf in Cumbria?

Yes. The leaf is made safe, measured and reglazed with new safety glass, or replaced completely if its frame is damaged. New glass is typically 2 to 4 weeks from order. Once the leaf is rehung, the door is set up again and the track and floor guide are checked.

What power supply is needed for automatic door refurbishment in Cumbria?

Most powered doors need a fused spur close to the operator, and some activation and access control devices also need a low-voltage link. The survey checks what is already there. If a new supply is required, the quote says whether we arrange it or your own electrician does, so nothing is left unclear on the day.

What do you need from us for parking and access in Cumbria?

Somewhere for the engineer's van as close to the entrance as possible, and a clear working area around the door. If parking is restricted, loading rules apply or the site has security procedures, tell us when you book. Those details go into the plan so the visit is not held up on the day.

Who is responsible for automatic doors on escape routes in Cumbria?

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 the responsible person for the premises must make sure escape routes work and fire safety equipment is maintained. Automatic doors on an escape route need fail-safe opening or break-out, set by the fire strategy.
