Accessible door operators in Berkshire

Surgeries, dental practices, libraries and council buildings in Berkshire often need just one or two doors made easier to open. A low-energy operator with push pads is a quick, tidy way to do that, and the survey costs nothing.

Coverage across Berkshire

There is no branch to visit in Berkshire; instead, specialist engineers working under our management travel to you. That keeps accessible door operators available across the whole area, including smaller towns and rural addresses. The page for each of the 11 towns we list below sets out nearby places, guide prices and the questions people usually ask.

What to think about for accessible door operators in Berkshire

  • Power is usually taken from a fused spur near the head of the door. If there is no supply close by, allow for an electrician to run one, ideally hidden in trunking or the wall.
  • Glazed doors in shop fronts and offices in Berkshire need visible push pads and clear markings on the glass, so people with sight loss can find the pad and see where the door is.
  • Community halls and churches in Berkshire may only be busy at certain times. A timer or key switch can keep the operator on while the building is open and leave the door manual the rest of the time.
  • If the door is a fire door, find its rating or records before the survey. Fixings and cabling must respect the rating, and the operator must release the door on the fire alarm.
  • Doors in exposed spots around Berkshire can be caught by the wind. A low-energy operator has limited force, so the survey checks whether the door will open and close reliably on a gusty day.

Standards and rules in England

Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, which can include altering a physical feature such as a heavy entrance door. Fitting an automatic door helps, but does not on its own guarantee those duties are met.

Building regulations guidance in England (Approved Document M, Volume 2) says a powered opening system should be used where a self-closing entrance door would need more than 30 N at the leading edge to open, or more than 22.5 N between 30° and 60°, and expects external doors used by the public in new buildings to give at least 1000 mm of effective clear width.

Whoever motorises a manual door, or builds an automatic door from separate parts, may take on the manufacturer’s legal duties for the finished door: a risk assessment, a technical file kept available for the authorities, a Declaration of Conformity, the conformity marking and instructions. You receive the Declaration of Conformity and the instructions at handover. In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking.

How it works

  1. Tell us about the entrance. Send the address, a few photos and a rough size of the opening, and say how the door is used. That is enough for us to suggest options for accessible door operators and book a survey in Berkshire.
  2. Free site survey. A specialist engineer working under our management measures the opening, checks the frame, floor, head height and power, and talks through how people use the entrance. There is no charge and no obligation.
  3. Fixed written quote. You receive a fixed, itemised written quote with the specification, lead time, payment stages and warranty terms. The price does not change unless the scope does, and any change is agreed in writing first.
  4. Installation and handover. The door is fitted on the agreed dates, then set up, tested and documented with reference to BS EN 16005. You are shown the controls and the simple checks to make, and receive the handover paperwork.

From one toilet door to a whole accessible route, ask for a fixed price for accessible door operators in Berkshire. The survey is free.

Accessible door operators in Berkshire: questions

Who will fit the operator at our building in Berkshire?

The engineer will be a specialist working under our management. We are the contracting party, so the quote, the warranty terms and any follow-up all come through us. Before handover, the door is set up, tested and documented with reference to BS EN 16005.

What will accessible door operators in Berkshire cost?

Our guide is £1,795 to £2,995 excluding VAT (per single door), the same guide prices we use across the UK. The free site survey in Berkshire confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Can the operator be serviced after installation in Berkshire?

Yes. We can arrange visits where the speed, force, safety settings, push pads and closer are checked and a written record is left. You agree the cost of each visit in writing beforehand, and how often we come depends on how much the door is used.

Do you fit operators to accessible toilets in Berkshire?

Yes. An accessible toilet usually needs a low-energy operator, push pads inside and out, a lock button that stops the door opening from outside while in use, and an emergency release for staff. We price the full kit, test it with your staff and leave the settings in writing.

How are payments structured for work in Berkshire?

Payment stages are set out in the quote before you accept it. Larger or made-to-order jobs may involve a deposit and a balance on completion, while smaller jobs may be invoiced once the work is finished. Nothing is charged for the survey itself, and the terms you accept are the terms that apply.

What do you need from us for parking and access in Berkshire?

Somewhere for the engineer's van as close to the entrance as possible, and a clear working area around the door. If parking is restricted, loading rules apply or the site has security procedures, tell us when you book. Those details go into the plan so the visit is not held up on the day.

Who is responsible for automatic doors on escape routes in Berkshire?

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 the responsible person for the premises must make sure escape routes work and fire safety equipment is maintained. Automatic doors on an escape route need fail-safe opening or break-out, set by the fire strategy.
