Covering Antrim and nearby

If your building is in Antrim, or anywhere in the BT41 postcode district, we can arrange touch-free and push-button activation. Visits are booked with you in advance, timed around opening hours where that matters, and carried out by engineers who work under our management.

Older shopfronts are common in market towns, and some in Antrim may sit in a conservation area or a listed building. Changes to a frontage can need planning permission or listed building consent, so it is worth checking with the local planning authority before work is booked.

Nearby towns we also list for touch-free and push-button activation (straight-line distance): Ballyclare (8.7 miles), Ballymena (10.4 miles), Newtownabbey (12.7 miles), Belfast (14.1 miles), Lisburn (15.1 miles), Magherafelt (16.0 miles).

What to think about for touch-free and push-button activation in Antrim

  • Clinics and surgeries in Antrim often want touch-free switches on every door patients use. Sealed switch faces that stand up to cleaning products are worth specifying.
  • Doors next to busy walkways can open for every passer-by on a motion sensor. A wave switch or push pad on that side may cut false openings and heat loss.
  • If the door is linked to access control, decide whether the switch should work all the time or only when the access control has released the door. That changes how it is wired.
  • Listed buildings in Antrim may restrict new fixings on historic walls. Wireless switches mounted on posts or glazing can avoid cutting into original fabric, and are easy to move later.
  • Homes in Antrim often need controls for more than one person. Carers, family and the person using the door may each need their own fob or button.

Standards and rules in Northern Ireland

Whoever motorises a manual door, or builds an automatic door from separate parts, may take on the manufacturer’s legal duties for the finished door: a risk assessment, a technical file kept available for the authorities, a Declaration of Conformity, the conformity marking and instructions. You receive the Declaration of Conformity and the instructions at handover. In Northern Ireland machinery, including a new or converted powered door, carries the CE marking (with UKNI added where a UK body carried out the conformity assessment), and the EU Machinery Regulation applies there from 20 January 2027.

The Building Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2012 require a powered door to have a means to prevent it trapping anyone and a means to open it if the power fails. Guidance on access to buildings is in Technical Booklet R, and building control approval is needed for new entrances.

How it works

  1. Tell us about the entrance. Send the address, a few photos and a rough size of the opening, and say how the door is used. That is enough for us to suggest options for touch-free and push-button activation and book a survey in Antrim.
  2. Free site survey. A specialist engineer working under our management measures the opening, checks the frame, floor, head height and power, and talks through how people use the entrance. There is no charge and no obligation.
  3. Fixed written quote. You receive a fixed, itemised written quote with the specification, lead time, payment stages and warranty terms. The price does not change unless the scope does, and any change is agreed in writing first.
  4. Installation and handover. The door is fitted on the agreed dates, then set up, tested and documented with reference to BS EN 16005. You are shown the controls and the simple checks to make, and receive the handover paperwork.

For homes in Antrim, ask about fobs, wristbands and wheelchair switches for your door opener. The home survey is free.

Touch-free and push-button activation in Antrim: questions

Our door in Antrim keeps opening for passers-by. Can you fix it?

Usually, by adjusting or narrowing the sensor field, or by changing to a switch on that side. If the sensor is old or faulty, it may need replacing. A visit to adjust or replace a sensor is priced in writing before anyone attends, as that is care work.

What do you charge for touch-free and push-button activation in Antrim?

Our guide starts from £145 excluding VAT (per switch fitted), the same guide price we use across the UK. For homes that is from £174 including VAT. The free site survey in Antrim confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Can wave switches in Antrim be linked to our access control?

Yes. A wave switch can be set to work only after the access control system has released the lock, or to let people out freely from the inside while entry needs a card. We agree how it should behave and test it with your system at handover.

Can you add touch-free switches to our automatic doors in Antrim?

Usually, yes. Most operators have spare inputs for extra devices. We check the door, operator and wiring route at a free survey, then quote a fixed price for the switches and fitting. Wireless switches are an option where running cables would be difficult.

What happens to the old door when a new one is fitted in Antrim?

If the work replaces an existing door, frame or operator, removal and disposal are listed in the quote. The old door comes out only when the new one is ready to go in, so the opening is not left empty for longer than necessary. Making good to the surrounding wall, floor or ceiling is included where the quote says so.

Can automatic doors be fitted to a listed building in Antrim?

Often, yes, but listed building consent is normally needed for changes that affect the character of the building, inside or out. Slim operators, concealed fixings and automating the existing door can all reduce the visual impact. Speak to the conservation officer at the local planning authority early; we can provide drawings and specifications to help.

Which marking should a new automatic door in Antrim carry?

In Northern Ireland machinery carries the CE marking, with UKNI added where a UK body carried out the conformity assessment. The EU Machinery Regulation applies in Northern Ireland from 20 January 2027.
