What to think about for telescopic sliding doors in Essex
- Medical centres in Essex often share a frontage with a pharmacy or other units. Check who owns the shopfront and whether the landlord needs to approve a new entrance before the survey drawing is finalised.
- Power for the operator usually comes from a fused spur at the head of the door. Where the nearest supply is some distance away, plan for an electrician to run a new circuit before the fitting day.
- Floor guides on two sets of leaves need a level, firm floor. Cracked screed, rocking tiles or a sloping threshold should be put right before fitting, and the quote will say who does it.
- Shop units in Essex that trade late or open early may want installation outside trading hours. Early starts and weekend work can usually be arranged and are shown as a separate line in the quote.
- If the entrance is on an escape route, ask your fire risk assessor what the door must do before ordering. Break-out telescopic leaves have to be chosen at the start, because they cannot be added afterwards.

Standards and rules in England
Building regulations guidance in England (Approved Document M, Volume 2) says a powered opening system should be used where a self-closing entrance door would need more than 30 N at the leading edge to open, or more than 22.5 N between 30° and 60°, and expects external doors used by the public in new buildings to give at least 1000 mm of effective clear width.
In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.
Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, which can include altering a physical feature such as a heavy entrance door. New entrances and some alterations count as building work, so check with building control before the work is ordered.
How it works
- Tell us about the entrance. Send the address, a few photos and a rough size of the opening, and say how the door is used. That is enough for us to suggest options for telescopic sliding doors and book a survey in Essex.
- Free site survey. A specialist engineer working under our management measures the opening, checks the frame, floor, head height and power, and talks through how people use the entrance. There is no charge and no obligation.
- Fixed written quote. You receive a fixed, itemised written quote with the specification, lead time, payment stages and warranty terms. The price does not change unless the scope does, and any change is agreed in writing first.
- Installation and handover. The door is fitted on the agreed dates, then set up, tested and documented with reference to BS EN 16005. You are shown the controls and the simple checks to make, and receive the handover paperwork.

Telescopic sliding doors in Essex: questions
Is the telescopic door survey in Essex really free?
Yes, for a new telescopic entrance the site survey costs nothing and carries no obligation. The engineer measures the opening, checks the structure, floor and power, and talks through layouts. You then receive a measured drawing and a fixed, itemised written quote, and you decide whether to go ahead.
What do you charge for telescopic sliding doors in Essex?
Our guide starts from £6,995 excluding VAT (per door set), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in Essex confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.
Can you look after the door in Essex once it is installed?
Yes. We can quote planned servicing for the new door, with each visit priced in writing beforehand and the interval set by how heavily the door is used and the manufacturer's instructions. Busy entrances such as hospitals and supermarkets are usually serviced more often than quieter offices.
Do we need to close our building in Essex while the door is fitted?
Usually not for long. Most telescopic entrances take one to two days on site, and the opening can be secured overnight. Where the entrance is the only way in, we plan the work around your hours, use another entrance if there is one, or work early or at weekends, with any extra cost shown in the quote.
What power supply is needed for telescopic sliding doors in Essex?
Most powered doors need a fused spur close to the operator, and some activation and access control devices also need a low-voltage link. The survey checks what is already there. If a new supply is required, the quote says whether we arrange it or your own electrician does, so nothing is left unclear on the day.
Can automatic doors be fitted to a listed building in Essex?
Often, yes, but listed building consent is normally needed for changes that affect the character of the building, inside or out. Slim operators, concealed fixings and automating the existing door can all reduce the visual impact. Speak to the conservation officer at the local planning authority early; we can provide drawings and specifications to help.
Do businesses in Essex have to fit automatic doors?
No law says every building must have automatic doors. Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, and building regulations guidance in England calls for a powered door where an entrance door would otherwise be too heavy to open. An automatic door is often the simplest way to meet both.
