What to think about for revolving doors in Dundee and Angus
- Busy reception areas in Dundee and Angus may want to keep people moving during installation week. A second entrance, temporary signs and staged work all help visitors find their way in.
- Revolving doors with curved glass drum walls have longer lead times. Allow for them in any refurbishment programme across Dundee and Angus, and confirm dates before booking floor layers or shopfitters.
- Hotel entrances in Dundee and Angus see guests with large cases and families with pushchairs. A larger three-wing automatic door and a clearly signed pass door keep the flow moving.
- Tall buildings in Dundee and Angus can pull a strong draught through an open entrance. A revolving door controls this better than sliding doors, which is one reason office towers use them.
- Automatic revolving doors need power to the canopy and links to the fire alarm and access control. Plan cable routes before ceilings are closed in.

Standards and rules in Scotland
Building regulations guidance treats revolving doors as not accessible on their own, so an accessible powered swing or sliding door should be provided alongside. In Scotland, fire safety regulations say sliding or revolving doors must not be used for exits specifically intended as emergency exits, and Scottish guidance allows automatic and revolving doors on an escape route only where they fail safely to outward opening, or have a monitored fail-safe system that opens them on power failure, sensor failure and fire alarm.
In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.
Scottish building standards guidance (the non-domestic Technical Handbook) expects an accessible entrance door to give a clear opening of at least 800 mm, says powered doors improve accessibility as long as they add no new hazard, and expects signage, sensors that hold the door open long enough, and guarding against collision or entrapment.
How it works
- Tell us about the entrance. Send the address, a few photos and a rough size of the opening, and say how the door is used. That is enough for us to suggest options for revolving doors and book a survey in Dundee and Angus.
- Free site survey. A specialist engineer working under our management measures the opening, checks the frame, floor, head height and power, and talks through how people use the entrance. There is no charge and no obligation.
- Fixed written quote. You receive a fixed, itemised written quote with the specification, lead time, payment stages and warranty terms. The price does not change unless the scope does, and any change is agreed in writing first.
- Installation and handover. The door is fitted on the agreed dates, then set up, tested and documented with reference to BS EN 16005. You are shown the controls and the simple checks to make, and receive the handover paperwork.
Tell us about your entrance in Dundee and Angus, its size and how busy it gets, and we will arrange a free survey for a revolving door and pass door.
Revolving doors in Dundee and Angus: questions
Can our reception in Dundee and Angus stay open during installation?
Usually, if there is a second entrance or the pass door can be fitted first. We stage the work so the building stays secure overnight and visitors are directed clearly. Where the revolving door is the only way in, we discuss weekend or out-of-hours working, with any extra cost shown in the quote.
How much should I budget for revolving doors in Dundee and Angus?
Our guide is £29,995 to £59,995 excluding VAT (per automatic door), the same guide prices we use across the UK. The free site survey in Dundee and Angus confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.
Will a revolving door in Dundee and Angus work with our fire alarm?
It can. An automatic revolving door can be linked to the fire alarm so it stops, slows or folds as the fire strategy requires, and the pass door can be set to open. Your alarm engineer usually makes the panel connection, and the quote shows who is responsible for each part.
Do we need a pass door beside a revolving door in Dundee and Angus?
In practice, yes. A revolving door is not accessible on its own, so an accessible powered swing or sliding door should be provided alongside for wheelchair users, pushchairs, deliveries and anyone who needs it. It also usually forms part of the escape strategy. We design and quote both together.
What is the lead time for revolving doors in Dundee and Angus?
Lead times depend on the door type and what has to be made to order. As a guide, operators and accessible door kits are typically two to four weeks from order, and complete sliding entrances typically four to eight weeks from drawing approval. Curved, revolving and hermetic doors usually take longer. The expected lead time is stated in your quote.
Will the building stay secure while the entrance is being changed?
We plan to keep the entrance usable or secure throughout. Where a door has to come out, the work is sequenced so the opening is closed up before the engineer leaves, or a temporary door or hoarding is arranged when a longer gap cannot be avoided. How this is handled for your site in Dundee and Angus is agreed before work starts.
Do businesses in Dundee and Angus have to fit automatic doors?
No law requires automatic doors everywhere. Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, and Scottish guidance says powered doors improve accessibility at entrances. An automatic door is often the practical answer.
