Coverage across Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles
From large town centres to quiet villages, entrances across Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles vary a great deal, and the right approach to hermetic sliding doors varies with them. A surgery door used by patients with walking frames needs different settings from a supermarket entrance, so the engineer looks at the actual door first. The towns we list in this area currently number 4.

What to think about for hermetic sliding doors in Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles
- Labs and cleanrooms in Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles often have modular wall panels. Frame details must match the panel system, so involve the cleanroom contractor before the door is ordered.
- Touch-free activation should suit how staff work. Foot switches suit scrubbed theatre staff, wave sensors suit corridors, and card readers suit restricted labs where only trained staff may enter.
- Theatre doors in Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles can usually only be replaced during a planned shutdown. Agree the dates with the theatre team early, as the door is made to order and the room needs cleaning and validation after installation.
- Power, building management and fire alarm links need planning with your electrical contractor. Cable routes into sealed cleanroom ceilings must be agreed early, before the panels are sealed.
- Pharmacy aseptic units in Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles may want doors that follow the colour coding of their clean zones. Leaf finishes can be chosen in a different colour for each grade of room.

Standards and rules in Scotland
BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them.
In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.
Glass in and beside doors must be safe where people could walk into it, and Scottish guidance puts markings on clear glass in two bands, 850 mm to 1.0 m and 1.4 m to 1.6 m above the floor.
How it works
- Start with a short enquiry. Use the form, phone or email. Tell us whether the work is a new door, an upgrade or an opener for a home, and we arrange the next step for your site in Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles.
- Measured survey. The free survey confirms what will fit and what the entrance needs: opening width, door type, activation, safety sensors and behaviour on power loss or fire alarm, matched to how the building is used.
- Written price, no surprises. A fixed, itemised quote sets out the specification, the work involved, the expected lead time and the warranty terms. You can ask questions or change the specification before accepting it.
- Installed and commissioned. The door is installed with as little disruption as possible, then set up and tested for its hazard zones. Before leaving, the engineer explains the controls and hands over the documents for your records.
Send us the room type, opening size and any specification you have, and we will arrange a free survey in Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles for a hermetic sliding door.
Hermetic sliding doors in Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles: questions
Can you work within our infection control procedures in Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles?
Yes. Work in clinical and cleanroom areas is planned around your permits, screening and dust control requirements, and around room shutdowns. Share your procedures at the survey and we will build them into the method statement and the programme for the installation.
How are prices worked out for hermetic sliding doors in Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles?
Our guide starts from £8,995 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.
Will the hermetic door in Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles link to our building management system?
It can. The operator can send door status to the building management system and receive signals from it, as well as from the fire alarm and access control. The interface is agreed with your controls contractor and shown in the quote, so responsibilities are clear.
Is the survey for a hermetic door in Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles free?
Yes, for a new hermetic door the survey is free and there is no obligation. We measure the opening, check the wall and floor, discuss seals, finishes, activation and interlocks with your team, then send drawings and a fixed, itemised written quote.
Is there a warranty on hermetic sliding doors?
Yes. The warranty terms for the equipment and the installation are set out in your written quote, so you can see exactly what is covered before you accept. Keeping the door serviced at the recommended intervals helps keep it in good order, and the quote explains any conditions that apply to the warranty.
How do you make sure the door works for disabled visitors in Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles?
We look at who uses the entrance: wheelchair users, people with walking aids, parents with buggies and older visitors. That shapes the opening width, the opening speed, the hold-open time and where push pads or sensors go. Service providers and employers have duties to make reasonable adjustments under equality and accessibility law, and an automatic door is a common one.
Who is responsible for automatic doors on escape routes in Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles?
The person responsible for fire safety under the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 for those premises. Scottish guidance allows automatic doors on escape routes only where they fail safely to outward opening or have a monitored fail-safe system that opens them on power failure, sensor failure and fire alarm.
