What to think about for hermetic sliding doors in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire
- Imaging rooms in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire need the lead equivalence confirmed by a radiation protection adviser. The lead lining adds weight, which affects the choice of operator and frame.
- Choose finishes that stand up to the cleaning regime at your site in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. Stainless steel and high-pressure laminate cope with strong disinfectants, but check the chemicals your cleaning team uses first.
- Interlocked doors need clear logic. Decide with your engineers which door has priority, how staff override the interlock in an emergency and what the status lights should show.
- Private hospitals, veterinary practices and dental surgeries in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire sometimes need hermetic doors for treatment rooms too. The same survey and specification process applies, scaled to the room.
- The floor must be flat and continuous through the opening. Welded vinyl or resin floors should be completed or repaired before the door is fitted, so the bottom seal meets a true surface.

Standards and rules in Scotland
BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them.
In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.
Glass in and beside doors must be safe where people could walk into it, and Scottish guidance puts markings on clear glass in two bands, 850 mm to 1.0 m and 1.4 m to 1.6 m above the floor.
How it works
- Tell us about the entrance. Send the address, a few photos and a rough size of the opening, and say how the door is used. That is enough for us to suggest options for hermetic sliding doors and book a survey in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.
- Free site survey. A specialist engineer working under our management measures the opening, checks the frame, floor, head height and power, and talks through how people use the entrance. There is no charge and no obligation.
- Fixed written quote. You receive a fixed, itemised written quote with the specification, lead time, payment stages and warranty terms. The price does not change unless the scope does, and any change is agreed in writing first.
- Installation and handover. The door is fitted on the agreed dates, then set up, tested and documented with reference to BS EN 16005. You are shown the controls and the simple checks to make, and receive the handover paperwork.

Hermetic sliding doors in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire: questions
Can our existing theatre door in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire be upgraded rather than replaced?
Sometimes. Where the leaf and frame are sound, new seals, an adjusted or replaced operator and new touch-free switches can restore performance. Where the frame is damaged or the door is no longer supported, replacement is usually better. The survey looks at both and explains the difference.
What do you charge for hermetic sliding doors in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire?
Our guide starts from £8,995 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.
Will the hermetic door in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire link to our building management system?
It can. The operator can send door status to the building management system and receive signals from it, as well as from the fire alarm and access control. The interface is agreed with your controls contractor and shown in the quote, so responsibilities are clear.
Can you supply lead-lined hermetic doors in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire?
Yes. Lead-lined leaves and frames are made to the lead equivalence your radiation protection adviser specifies, with the same seals, finishes and touch-free activation as other hermetic doors. The extra weight is allowed for in the operator and the fixings.
What do you need from us for parking and access in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire?
Somewhere for the engineer's van as close to the entrance as possible, and a clear working area around the door. If parking is restricted, loading rules apply or the site has security procedures, tell us when you book. Those details go into the plan so the visit is not held up on the day.
What power supply is needed for hermetic sliding doors in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire?
Most powered doors need a fused spur close to the operator, and some activation and access control devices also need a low-voltage link. The survey checks what is already there. If a new supply is required, the quote says whether we arrange it or your own electrician does, so nothing is left unclear on the day.
Is a building warrant needed for a new automatic entrance in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire?
Often, yes. Most building work in Scotland needs a building warrant before it starts, and the non-domestic Technical Handbook sets out what an accessible entrance should provide, including a clear opening of at least 800 mm. We tell you at the survey if your job is likely to need one.
