Coverage across Northumberland

Not every part of Northumberland is easy to reach, and some sites need planning around access, parking or opening hours. We take that into account when arranging hermetic sliding doors, and the engineer, working under our management, arrives with what the job is likely to need. The towns below, 4 in all, each have their own page, but any address in the area can be covered.

Towns listed in Northumberland: Blyth, Cramlington, Ashington, Bedlington.

What to think about for hermetic sliding doors in Northumberland

  • Private hospitals, veterinary practices and dental surgeries in Northumberland sometimes need hermetic doors for treatment rooms too. The same survey and specification process applies, scaled to the room.
  • Seals are consumable parts. Budget for regular inspection and replacement in the planned maintenance programme for each theatre or cleanroom, with visit prices agreed in writing.
  • Imaging rooms in Northumberland need the lead equivalence confirmed by a radiation protection adviser. The lead lining adds weight, which affects the choice of operator and frame.
  • The floor must be flat and continuous through the opening. Welded vinyl or resin floors should be completed or repaired before the door is fitted, so the bottom seal meets a true surface.
  • Infection control rules in hospitals across Northumberland usually require screening, dust control and permits for work in clinical areas. Share your procedures at survey so they are built into the programme.

Standards and rules in England

BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them.

In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.

Glass in and beside doors must be safety glass or protected where people could walk into it, and clear glass needs markings in two bands, 850 mm to 1000 mm and 1400 mm to 1600 mm above the floor (Approved Document K).

How it works

  1. Tell us about the entrance. Send the address, a few photos and a rough size of the opening, and say how the door is used. That is enough for us to suggest options for hermetic sliding doors and book a survey in Northumberland.
  2. Free site survey. A specialist engineer working under our management measures the opening, checks the frame, floor, head height and power, and talks through how people use the entrance. There is no charge and no obligation.
  3. Fixed written quote. You receive a fixed, itemised written quote with the specification, lead time, payment stages and warranty terms. The price does not change unless the scope does, and any change is agreed in writing first.
  4. Installation and handover. The door is fitted on the agreed dates, then set up, tested and documented with reference to BS EN 16005. You are shown the controls and the simple checks to make, and receive the handover paperwork.

Hermetic sliding doors in Northumberland: questions

Is the survey for a hermetic door in Northumberland free?

Yes, for a new hermetic door the survey is free and there is no obligation. We measure the opening, check the wall and floor, discuss seals, finishes, activation and interlocks with your team, then send drawings and a fixed, itemised written quote.

What is the guide price for hermetic sliding doors in Northumberland?

Our guide starts from £8,995 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in Northumberland confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Who maintains hermetic doors in Northumberland once fitted?

We can, through planned servicing with each visit priced in writing before an engineer attends. Seals, sensors and interlocks need regular checks, and a trained engineer should test the safety functions at least once a year. Many theatres and cleanrooms schedule more frequent checks as part of their own maintenance programme.

Will the hermetic door in Northumberland link to our building management system?

It can. The operator can send door status to the building management system and receive signals from it, as well as from the fire alarm and access control. The interface is agreed with your controls contractor and shown in the quote, so responsibilities are clear.

Will the building stay secure while the entrance is being changed?

We plan to keep the entrance usable or secure throughout. Where a door has to come out, the work is sequenced so the opening is closed up before the engineer leaves, or a temporary door or hoarding is arranged when a longer gap cannot be avoided. How this is handled for your site in Northumberland is agreed before work starts.

Can automatic doors be fitted to a listed building in Northumberland?

Often, yes, but listed building consent is normally needed for changes that affect the character of the building, inside or out. Slim operators, concealed fixings and automating the existing door can all reduce the visual impact. Speak to the conservation officer at the local planning authority early; we can provide drawings and specifications to help.

Who is responsible for automatic doors on escape routes in Northumberland?

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 the responsible person for the premises must make sure escape routes work and fire safety equipment is maintained. Automatic doors on an escape route need fail-safe opening or break-out, set by the fire strategy.
