What to think about for hermetic sliding doors in County Durham
- Labs and cleanrooms in County Durham often have modular wall panels. Frame details must match the panel system, so involve the cleanroom contractor before the door is ordered.
- Interlocked doors need clear logic. Decide with your engineers which door has priority, how staff override the interlock in an emergency and what the status lights should show.
- The floor must be flat and continuous through the opening. Welded vinyl or resin floors should be completed or repaired before the door is fitted, so the bottom seal meets a true surface.
- Private hospitals, veterinary practices and dental surgeries in County Durham sometimes need hermetic doors for treatment rooms too. The same survey and specification process applies, scaled to the room.
- Pharmacy aseptic units in County Durham may want doors that follow the colour coding of their clean zones. Leaf finishes can be chosen in a different colour for each grade of room.

Standards and rules in England
BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them.
In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.
Glass in and beside doors must be safety glass or protected where people could walk into it, and clear glass needs markings in two bands, 850 mm to 1000 mm and 1400 mm to 1600 mm above the floor (Approved Document K).
How it works
- Send photos and the address. A few pictures of the door from both sides, the address in County Durham and a note of who uses the entrance help us understand the job before anyone visits the site.
- No-cost survey on site. We arrange a survey at a time that suits the building. The engineer records measurements, fixings and power, plus any constraints such as listed status, opening hours or access for deliveries.
- Itemised quote to approve. We price every element of the work on hermetic sliding doors separately in a written quote that you can check, share and approve. Lead time and payment stages are stated, and nothing is ordered until you accept.
- Fit, test and hand over. On the agreed dates the engineer installs the equipment, commissions the operator and tests each safety function. You get a demonstration, the test record and any conformity paperwork that applies to the work.

Hermetic sliding doors in County Durham: questions
Can you work within our infection control procedures in County Durham?
Yes. Work in clinical and cleanroom areas is planned around your permits, screening and dust control requirements, and around room shutdowns. Share your procedures at the survey and we will build them into the method statement and the programme for the installation.
How are prices worked out for hermetic sliding doors in County Durham?
Our guide starts from £8,995 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in County Durham confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.
Will the hermetic door in County Durham link to our building management system?
It can. The operator can send door status to the building management system and receive signals from it, as well as from the fire alarm and access control. The interface is agreed with your controls contractor and shown in the quote, so responsibilities are clear.
Is the survey for a hermetic door in County Durham free?
Yes, for a new hermetic door the survey is free and there is no obligation. We measure the opening, check the wall and floor, discuss seals, finishes, activation and interlocks with your team, then send drawings and a fixed, itemised written quote.
Do you service doors in County Durham after installing them?
Yes. We recommend a trained engineer checks the safety functions at least once a year, with service intervals set by the manufacturer's instructions and how heavily the door is used; busy doors are often serviced more often. Servicing can follow on from the installation, with the price agreed in writing and a record left after every visit.
What do you need from us for parking and access in County Durham?
Somewhere for the engineer's van as close to the entrance as possible, and a clear working area around the door. If parking is restricted, loading rules apply or the site has security procedures, tell us when you book. Those details go into the plan so the visit is not held up on the day.
Who is responsible for automatic doors on escape routes in County Durham?
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 the responsible person for the premises must make sure escape routes work and fire safety equipment is maintained. Automatic doors on an escape route need fail-safe opening or break-out, set by the fire strategy.
