Coverage across Hertfordshire

From large town centres to quiet villages, entrances across Hertfordshire vary a great deal, and the right approach to hermetic sliding doors varies with them. A surgery door used by patients with walking frames needs different settings from a supermarket entrance, so the engineer looks at the actual door first. The towns we list in this area currently number 19.

What to think about for hermetic sliding doors in Hertfordshire

  • The floor must be flat and continuous through the opening. Welded vinyl or resin floors should be completed or repaired before the door is fitted, so the bottom seal meets a true surface.
  • Choose finishes that stand up to the cleaning regime at your site in Hertfordshire. Stainless steel and high-pressure laminate cope with strong disinfectants, but check the chemicals your cleaning team uses first.
  • Power, building management and fire alarm links need planning with your electrical contractor. Cable routes into sealed cleanroom ceilings must be agreed early, before the panels are sealed.
  • Infection control rules in hospitals across Hertfordshire usually require screening, dust control and permits for work in clinical areas. Share your procedures at survey so they are built into the programme.
  • Private hospitals, veterinary practices and dental surgeries in Hertfordshire sometimes need hermetic doors for treatment rooms too. The same survey and specification process applies, scaled to the room.

Standards and rules in England

BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them.

In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.

Glass in and beside doors must be safety glass or protected where people could walk into it, and clear glass needs markings in two bands, 850 mm to 1000 mm and 1400 mm to 1600 mm above the floor (Approved Document K).

How it works

  1. Send photos and the address. A few pictures of the door from both sides, the address in Hertfordshire and a note of who uses the entrance help us understand the job before anyone visits the site.
  2. No-cost survey on site. We arrange a survey at a time that suits the building. The engineer records measurements, fixings and power, plus any constraints such as listed status, opening hours or access for deliveries.
  3. Itemised quote to approve. We price every element of the work on hermetic sliding doors separately in a written quote that you can check, share and approve. Lead time and payment stages are stated, and nothing is ordered until you accept.
  4. Fit, test and hand over. On the agreed dates the engineer installs the equipment, commissions the operator and tests each safety function. You get a demonstration, the test record and any conformity paperwork that applies to the work.

Hermetic sliding doors in Hertfordshire: questions

Can you supply lead-lined hermetic doors in Hertfordshire?

Yes. Lead-lined leaves and frames are made to the lead equivalence your radiation protection adviser specifies, with the same seals, finishes and touch-free activation as other hermetic doors. The extra weight is allowed for in the operator and the fixings.

What is the guide price for hermetic sliding doors in Hertfordshire?

Our guide starts from £8,995 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in Hertfordshire confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Who maintains hermetic doors in Hertfordshire once fitted?

We can, through planned servicing with each visit priced in writing before an engineer attends. Seals, sensors and interlocks need regular checks, and a trained engineer should test the safety functions at least once a year. Many theatres and cleanrooms schedule more frequent checks as part of their own maintenance programme.

How long will the room in Hertfordshire be out of use?

Installing a single hermetic door usually takes one to two days on site, plus time for your own cleaning and validation afterwards. Larger doors, lead-lined doors or interlocked pairs take longer. The door is typically 6 to 10 weeks from order, so we agree dates with you well in advance.

Is there a warranty on hermetic sliding doors?

Yes. The warranty terms for the equipment and the installation are set out in your written quote, so you can see exactly what is covered before you accept. Keeping the door serviced at the recommended intervals helps keep it in good order, and the quote explains any conditions that apply to the warranty.

Can automatic doors be fitted to a listed building in Hertfordshire?

Often, yes, but listed building consent is normally needed for changes that affect the character of the building, inside or out. Slim operators, concealed fixings and automating the existing door can all reduce the visual impact. Speak to the conservation officer at the local planning authority early; we can provide drawings and specifications to help.

Which building regulations apply to a new automatic entrance in Hertfordshire?

In England the guidance is Approved Document M (Volume 2) for access, Approved Document B for fire safety and escape routes, and Approved Document K for glazing and powered doors. A new entrance can count as building work, so building control should be involved before it is ordered.
