Covering Chepstow and nearby

We cover the whole of the NP16 postcode district, along with nearby towns in Gwent. You book each visit for automatic swing doors directly with us, and a specialist automatic door engineer working under our management travels to your site on the agreed date.

Older shopfronts are common in market towns, and some in Chepstow may sit in a conservation area or a listed building. Changes to a frontage can need planning permission or listed building consent, so it is worth checking with the local planning authority before work is booked.

Nearby towns we also list for automatic swing doors (straight-line distance): Caldicot (5.1 miles), Portishead (11.7 miles), Monmouth (12.0 miles), Clifton (12.7 miles), Fishponds (12.8 miles), Yate (13.1 miles).

What to think about for automatic swing doors in Chepstow

  • Doors that open into a corridor can strike people approaching from the side. Guard rails or extra sensors may be needed where the swing area meets a busy route.
  • Check the hinges first. Older doors in Chepstow often have worn hinges that would fail under an operator, so the survey may recommend heavier hinges or pivots.
  • Doors on escape routes in Chepstow usually open in the direction of escape. If the current door opens the other way, the survey will flag whether it should be changed before the operator is fitted.
  • External swing doors facing the wind need stronger operators and careful set-up. On exposed sites across Gwent, consider whether a canopy or a sliding door would work better.
  • Office buildings in Chepstow with access control can have doors that open automatically in working hours and only for card holders after hours, using a timer and the existing reader.

Standards and rules in Wales

In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.

Wales has its own building regulations guidance. Approved Document M (Wales) uses a lower opening-force limit than England, 20 N at the leading edge, before a powered door is called for, and expects external doors used by the public in new buildings to give at least 1000 mm of effective clear width.

How it works

  1. Tell us about the entrance. Send the address, a few photos and a rough size of the opening, and say how the door is used. That is enough for us to suggest options for automatic swing doors and book a survey in Chepstow.
  2. Free site survey. A specialist engineer working under our management measures the opening, checks the frame, floor, head height and power, and talks through how people use the entrance. There is no charge and no obligation.
  3. Fixed written quote. You receive a fixed, itemised written quote with the specification, lead time, payment stages and warranty terms. The price does not change unless the scope does, and any change is agreed in writing first.
  4. Installation and handover. The door is fitted on the agreed dates, then set up, tested and documented with reference to BS EN 16005. You are shown the controls and the simple checks to make, and receive the handover paperwork.

Tell us how many doors you have in Chepstow, and whether they are single or double, and we will arrange a free survey.

Automatic swing doors in Chepstow: questions

Do you fit low-energy operators in Chepstow as well?

Yes. Where a door is quieter and used mainly by people who need help opening it, a low-energy operator may be the better choice, as long as a risk assessment shows it is suitable. We compare full-energy and low-energy at the survey and explain the difference in the quote.

What will automatic swing doors in Chepstow cost?

Our guide starts from £2,495 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in Chepstow confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

What paperwork do we get for automated doors in Chepstow?

You receive the test record, a site-specific risk assessment, user instructions and the conformity paperwork for each door. When an existing manual door is motorised, whoever does it may take on the manufacturer's duties for the finished door, so the Declaration of Conformity and instructions are handed over at the end of the job.

Can our existing doors in Chepstow be automated?

Usually, if the doors, hinges and frames are in good condition. The survey checks the door weight, the hinges, what the operator will fix to and what sits in the swing path. Where a door is too worn, we will say so and quote a new doorset with the operator fitted instead.

Can installation in Chepstow happen outside opening hours?

Yes. Many shops, surgeries and offices prefer work early in the morning, in the evening or at weekends, when the entrance is quietest. Tell us your constraints when you enquire and they are built into the plan. Any extra cost for out-of-hours work is shown in the written quote rather than added afterwards.

What happens to the old door when a new one is fitted in Chepstow?

If the work replaces an existing door, frame or operator, removal and disposal are listed in the quote. The old door comes out only when the new one is ready to go in, so the opening is not left empty for longer than necessary. Making good to the surrounding wall, floor or ceiling is included where the quote says so.

Who is responsible for automatic doors on escape routes in Chepstow?

The responsible person under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. Automatic doors on an escape route need fail-safe opening or break-out, and sliding or revolving doors must not be used for exits specifically intended as emergency exits.
