Covering March and nearby

From shops and surgeries to schools, care homes and private houses, any building in the PE15 postcode district can be covered for automatic swing doors. Specialist engineers working under our management carry out the work, and you deal with us as the contracting party from start to finish.

Older shopfronts are common in market towns, and some in March may sit in a conservation area or a listed building. Changes to a frontage can need planning permission or listed building consent, so it is worth checking with the local planning authority before work is booked.

Nearby towns we also list for automatic swing doors (straight-line distance): Wisbech (8.5 miles), Ely (12.8 miles), Peterborough (14.2 miles), King's Lynn (18.9 miles), Spalding (19.1 miles), Huntingdon (19.2 miles).

What to think about for automatic swing doors in March

  • Fire doors need care. The operator must suit the door, keep its fire performance intact and close the door when the alarm sounds, so have the door's labels and records to hand for the survey.
  • Electric locks must be coordinated with the operator, so the lock releases before the arm moves. Tell us about existing locks, card readers and intercoms at the survey.
  • Doors that open into a corridor can strike people approaching from the side. Guard rails or extra sensors may be needed where the swing area meets a busy route.
  • External swing doors facing the wind need stronger operators and careful set-up. On exposed sites across Cambridgeshire, consider whether a canopy or a sliding door would work better.
  • Hospital and care home corridors in March need doors that open early enough for beds and trolleys. Radar sensors set to the right range, or a push pad placed before the door, keep traffic moving.

Standards and rules in England

In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.

Building regulations guidance in England (Approved Document M, Volume 2) says a powered opening system should be used where a self-closing entrance door would need more than 30 N at the leading edge to open, or more than 22.5 N between 30° and 60°, and expects external doors used by the public in new buildings to give at least 1000 mm of effective clear width.

How it works

  1. Describe what you need. Whether the job is automatic swing doors for a busy entrance or for a single internal door, a brief description and some photos let us understand it and plan a survey visit in March.
  2. Free visit to the site. An engineer working under our management assesses the opening, the existing door and frame, the floor and the electrical supply, and notes any access, consent or timing issues to plan around.
  3. Your fixed quotation. The quote is fixed for the work it describes and lists each item, including any removal, making good and electrical work. It also states the lead time, the payment stages and the warranty terms.
  4. Fitting and sign-off. Work goes ahead on dates agreed with you. Once fitted, the door is adjusted and its safety functions are tested and recorded with reference to BS EN 16005, and you are shown how to use it.

Book a free survey in March, and an engineer will check your doors, hinges and fire labels and recommend the right operator.

Automatic swing doors in March: questions

Can you fit automatic swing door operators in March?

Yes. We arrange supply and installation of swing operators for doors in March and throughout Cambridgeshire. The work is carried out by specialist automatic door engineers working under our management, and we stay the contracting party from the survey through to handover and any servicing afterwards.

How are prices worked out for automatic swing doors in March?

Our guide starts from £2,495 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in March confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Can you service swing doors in March after fitting?

Yes. We can arrange planned servicing, with each visit priced in writing before an engineer attends. A trained engineer should check the safety functions at least once a year, and busy corridors, schools and hospitals usually need more frequent visits. Staff should also carry out simple daily checks.

How quickly can a swing operator be fitted in March?

Operators for existing doors are typically 2 to 4 weeks from order. On site, a single door usually takes half a day to a day, and a pair about a day. We can plan work for evenings, weekends or holidays where the building is busy, with any extra cost shown in the quote.

What does the free site survey in March involve?

An engineer working under our management visits the building, measures the opening, checks the frame, floor, head height and power supply, and looks at how people use the entrance. The survey is free and carries no obligation. Afterwards you receive a fixed, itemised written quote for automatic swing doors, with drawings where the door type needs them.

What happens once the installation in March is finished?

The engineer tests every function, including the safety sensors and the behaviour on power loss, and sets the door up with reference to BS EN 16005. You are shown how to use the controls and which simple checks to make, and you receive the handover documents, including the test record and any conformity paperwork that applies to the work.

Which building regulations apply to a new automatic entrance in March?

In England the guidance is Approved Document M (Volume 2) for access, Approved Document B for fire safety and escape routes, and Approved Document K for glazing and powered doors. A new entrance can count as building work, so building control should be involved before it is ordered.
