Covering Woking and nearby
Homes, businesses and public buildings throughout the GU21 and GU22 postcode districts can arrange automatic door servicing with us. We are the contracting party and organise every visit; the engineer, who works under our management, travels in to Woking for the job rather than working from premises in town.
Town-centre buildings in Woking range from modern units to older shopfronts. Older frontages can have uneven floors, limited head height and timber frames that need checking before an operator is fitted or adjusted, and the engineer looks at these on site.
Nearby towns we also list for automatic door servicing (straight-line distance): Weybridge (5.6 miles), Guildford (5.8 miles), Egham (7.8 miles), Walton-on-Thames (7.8 miles), Camberley (8.0 miles), Staines-upon-Thames (8.1 miles).
What to think about for automatic door servicing in Woking
- Doors on busy high streets in Woking can cycle hundreds of times a day. Heavy use wears belts, rollers and floor guides faster, so these doors usually need more frequent visits.
- Business parks and retail parks in Woking may have doors owned by the landlord and doors leased with the unit. Check who is responsible for servicing each door before booking.
- A logbook kept near the door, or a shared digital folder, makes it simple to show service history in Woking when an insurer, landlord or inspector asks for it.
- Doors on escape routes need their break-out or power-failure opening tested at every service. Tell us which doors serve escape routes so the engineer checks the right functions.
- Battery backup units wear out over time. Testing them at each service shows whether the door will still open or close safely in a power cut.
Automatic door servicing in Woking: guide prices
The visit price is agreed in writing before an engineer attends; parts and any further work are quoted before they are done. Guide price: from £145 ex VAT (£174 inc VAT).
| Item | Guide price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Single service visit, first door on site | £145 – £245 | checks, adjustment and service record, ex VAT; homes £174 – £294 inc VAT |
| Each additional door on the same visit | £60 – £120 | ex VAT; homes £72 – £144 inc VAT |
| Service contract, one visit a year | £145 – £245 | first door, per year, visit booked in advance at a fixed price, ex VAT; homes £174 – £294 inc VAT |
| Service contract, two visits a year | £270 – £460 | first door, per year, ex VAT; additional doors at the per-visit rate above; homes £324 – £552 inc VAT |
No law sets a fixed service interval. We recommend a safety check by a trained engineer at least once a year, and more frequent visits for busy doors. Repairs found during a service are quoted before they are done.
Standards and rules in England
BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them. Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible.
Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance. HSE guidance on those regulations says the frequency of maintenance depends on the equipment and the manufacturer’s information.
How it works
- Tell us what is happening. Describe the fault, or the service or inspection that is due, and send photos of the door and any label on the operator. Include the address in Woking and how much the site depends on the door.
- Visit price agreed in writing. We confirm the price of the visit in writing before an engineer attends. If the door can be priced from photos and its make and model, we say so at this stage.
- Engineer visit. A specialist engineer working under our management diagnoses the fault or carries out the service, then tests the operation of the door and its safety sensors before leaving the site.
- Findings and follow-up. You receive a written record of what was found and done. Any parts or further work needed are quoted in writing before they go ahead, and nothing is added without your agreement.
If your doors in Woking have not been serviced for a while, start with a single visit. The report will show their condition and what, if anything, needs doing.
Automatic door servicing in Woking: questions
Will servicing help with our insurer or landlord in Woking?
Many insurers and landlords ask for evidence that automatic doors are maintained. A written service report for each door, kept in a logbook or digital folder, is the usual way to show that. If they ask for a risk assessment against BS EN 16005, a safety inspection can be added.
Is there a guide price for automatic door servicing in Woking?
Our guide starts from £145 excluding VAT (per visit, first door), the same guide price we use across the UK. For homes that is from £174 including VAT. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends in Woking, and quote any parts or further work before doing them. The price guide lists typical repair and service costs.
What happens if the service in Woking finds a fault?
The engineer explains what they found and deals with small issues as part of the visit. Worn parts or longer repairs are quoted to you first and only carried out once you agree. The service report records the fault so it can be tracked at later visits.
Do you service automatic doors in Woking?
Yes. Planned service visits in Woking are carried out by automatic door specialists who work under our management, with us as your contracting party. They service sliding, swing, folding and revolving doors from most makers. The cost of each visit is confirmed in writing before it is booked, and you receive a service report afterwards.
How soon can an engineer get to Woking?
We do not promise response times. When you book, we give you the earliest date we can offer and confirm it once the price is agreed. If the door is unsafe in the meantime, it is usually best to switch it off or set it to a safe mode, put up a sign and keep people clear of it.
Can visits in Woking be arranged outside working hours?
Yes, where the site needs it. Early-morning, evening and weekend visits can be arranged for shops, surgeries and offices that cannot lose their entrance during the day. Any difference in price for out-of-hours attendance is agreed in writing before the visit is booked, alongside the standard visit price.
Who is responsible for automatic doors on escape routes in Woking?
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 the responsible person for the premises must make sure escape routes work and fire safety equipment is maintained. Automatic doors on an escape route need fail-safe opening or break-out, set by the fire strategy.
