Covering Gateshead and nearby

Homes, businesses and public buildings throughout the NE8, NE9, NE10 and NE11 postcode districts can arrange automatic door repairs with us. We are the contracting party and organise every visit; the engineer, who works under our management, travels in to Gateshead for the job rather than working from premises in town.

Schools and colleges in and around Gateshead often want work done in the holidays, when entrances can be taken out of use without disrupting pupils. Planning ahead for half-term or summer dates makes it easier to find a slot that suits the timetable.

Nearby towns we also list for automatic door repairs (straight-line distance): Newcastle upon Tyne (0.9 miles), Wallsend (3.4 miles), Hebburn (3.5 miles), Jarrow (4.8 miles), Washington (5.5 miles), North Shields (7.1 miles).

What to think about for automatic door repairs in Gateshead

  • A door with battery backup may show a fault, or fail to open in a power cut, when its battery is worn out. Batteries are a routine replacement part rather than a major repair.
  • Shopping parades and business parks in Gateshead can have restricted parking or loading. Tell us where an engineer can park and unload tools when you book the visit.
  • Glass damage needs prompt action to keep people safe. Switch the door off, keep people back from the broken leaf and tape or board the glass if that can be done safely.
  • Leisure centres, schools and public buildings in Gateshead may need a contractor induction or permit before work starts. Send any site rules with your booking so the visit can go ahead first time.
  • Opening hours matter when booking a repair in Gateshead. If your premises close early or open late, mention it so the engineer can work while the entrance is quiet.

Standards and rules in England

BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them. Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible.

Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance. HSE guidance on those regulations says the frequency of maintenance depends on the equipment and the manufacturer’s information.

How it works

  1. Make contact. Phone, email or use the form. Tell us the type of door, what it is doing and whether it is safe to use, so the right visit for automatic door repairs can be planned.
  2. Written visit price. The cost of attending is agreed in writing before the visit is booked. For a planned service or inspection, the price per door and what each visit includes are set out at the same time.
  3. On-site work. The engineer, working under our management, checks the door from end to end, deals with the fault or the service, and tests every safety function and sensor setting before signing the door off.
  4. Report and quote. You receive a report of the findings. Where a repair, part or upgrade is recommended, it is quoted in writing so you can decide, and the door is left in a safe state if it cannot be used.

Get your entrance working again. Describe the fault at your premises in Gateshead and we will tell you what the visit costs and when an engineer can attend.

Automatic door repairs in Gateshead: questions

What if my door in Gateshead cannot be repaired?

If a drive unit is obsolete, or a repair would cost close to a new operator, the engineer explains why. A new drive unit can usually be fitted to the existing frame and leaves, which costs far less than a whole new door. You receive a written quote for that, and whether to go ahead is entirely your choice.

What do you charge for automatic door repairs in Gateshead?

Our guide starts from £95 excluding VAT (visit including the first hour), the same guide price we use across the UK. For homes that is from £114 including VAT. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends in Gateshead, and quote any parts or further work before doing them. The price guide lists typical repair and service costs.

Can you repair revolving doors in Gateshead?

Yes. The engineers we send work on automatic and manual revolving doors as well as sliding and swing doors. Revolving doors have extra safety devices, such as stop buttons and edge sensors, which are all tested after a repair. Parts for some revolving doors take longer to source, so photos of the drive and control panel help us prepare.

Can you tell me the cost before visiting my premises in Gateshead?

We always confirm the visit price before attending. For some faults, photos of the door and the operator label let us price the repair itself in advance. Where the cause needs testing on site, parts and extra work are quoted after diagnosis and only go ahead if you agree.

Do you leave a written record after each visit in Gateshead?

Yes. Every visit ends with a written record of what was checked, what was done and anything that still needs attention. For safety inspections you receive a report of the findings and a site-specific risk assessment. Keeping these on file is the usual way to show that a workplace door is maintained and in good working order.

Can visits in Gateshead be arranged outside working hours?

Yes, where the site needs it. Early-morning, evening and weekend visits can be arranged for shops, surgeries and offices that cannot lose their entrance during the day. Any difference in price for out-of-hours attendance is agreed in writing before the visit is booked, alongside the standard visit price.

Which building regulations apply to a new automatic entrance in Gateshead?

In England the guidance is Approved Document M (Volume 2) for access, Approved Document B for fire safety and escape routes, and Approved Document K for glazing and powered doors. A new entrance can count as building work, so building control should be involved before it is ordered.
