Covering York and nearby

From shops and surgeries to schools, care homes and private houses, any building in the YO1, YO10, YO24, YO30 and YO31 postcode districts can be covered for automatic door repairs. Specialist engineers working under our management carry out the work, and you deal with us as the contracting party from start to finish.

Hospitals, universities and large public buildings in and around York often have dozens of automatic doors on one estate, from main entrances to ward and corridor doors. Grouping surveys, servicing and inspections across a site keeps records in one place and visits efficient.

Nearby towns we also list for automatic door repairs (straight-line distance): Selby (12.1 miles), Harrogate (18.6 miles), Goole (19.5 miles), Castleford (19.7 miles), Pontefract (20.7 miles), Rothwell (21.7 miles).

What to think about for automatic door repairs in York

  • Glass damage needs prompt action to keep people safe. Switch the door off, keep people back from the broken leaf and tape or board the glass if that can be done safely.
  • Rule out the simple things. Check whether the door's isolator or fused spur has been switched off, and whether other equipment on the same circuit has also stopped working.
  • Doors knocked by trolleys, pushchairs or deliveries often go out of line. Repeated impacts damage rollers and floor guides, so it helps to know roughly when the fault first appeared.
  • Opening hours matter when booking a repair in York. If your premises close early or open late, mention it so the engineer can work while the entrance is quiet.
  • For surgeries, clinics and care settings in York, a door that will not open can stop wheelchair users getting in. Plan an alternative accessible entrance and clear signs while the repair is arranged.

Standards and rules in England

Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance. HSE guidance on those regulations says the frequency of maintenance depends on the equipment and the manufacturer’s information.

BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them. Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible.

How it works

  1. Tell us what is happening. Describe the fault, or the service or inspection that is due, and send photos of the door and any label on the operator. Include the address in York and how much the site depends on the door.
  2. Visit price agreed in writing. We confirm the price of the visit in writing before an engineer attends. If the door can be priced from photos and its make and model, we say so at this stage.
  3. Engineer visit. A specialist engineer working under our management diagnoses the fault or carries out the service, then tests the operation of the door and its safety sensors before leaving the site.
  4. Findings and follow-up. You receive a written record of what was found and done. Any parts or further work needed are quoted in writing before they go ahead, and nothing is added without your agreement.

Send us a photo of the faulty door and its operator label in York. We will confirm the visit price in writing and offer the earliest engineer visit available.

Automatic door repairs in York: questions

Do engineers carry spare parts for doors in York?

Engineers carry common parts such as sensors, belts and some rollers. Controllers, motors and parts for less common doors are ordered once the fault is confirmed, and delivery is typically 1 to 3 weeks. Knowing the make and model in advance improves the chance of a repair during the first visit.

What will automatic door repairs in York cost?

Our guide starts from £95 excluding VAT (visit including the first hour), the same guide price we use across the UK. For homes that is from £114 including VAT. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends in York, and quote any parts or further work before doing them. The price guide lists typical repair and service costs.

Can you repair revolving doors in York?

Yes. The engineers we send work on automatic and manual revolving doors as well as sliding and swing doors. Revolving doors have extra safety devices, such as stop buttons and edge sensors, which are all tested after a repair. Parts for some revolving doors take longer to source, so photos of the drive and control panel help us prepare.

Can you tell me the cost before visiting my premises in York?

We always confirm the visit price before attending. For some faults, photos of the door and the operator label let us price the repair itself in advance. Where the cause needs testing on site, parts and extra work are quoted after diagnosis and only go ahead if you agree.

Can you take over servicing of doors in York from another company?

Yes. Send us the door details and, if you have them, previous service records or inspection reports. The first visit gives a baseline for each door, and its price is agreed in writing beforehand. From then on, records continue in one consistent format, whichever company looked after the doors before.

Can you price a repair in York from photos?

Sometimes. Clear photos of the door, the operator cover and any label showing the make and model, plus a description of what the door is doing, can let us price a likely repair before a visit. Where the cause is not obvious, we agree a diagnostic visit price in writing first and quote the repair afterwards.

Do businesses in York have to fit automatic doors?

No law says every building must have automatic doors. Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, and building regulations guidance in England calls for a powered door where an entrance door would otherwise be too heavy to open. An automatic door is often the simplest way to meet both.
