Covering Portree and nearby

We cover the whole of the IV51 postcode district, along with nearby towns in the Highlands. You book each visit for automatic door repairs directly with us, and a specialist automatic door engineer working under our management travels to your site on the agreed date.

Doors at quieter sites in Portree and elsewhere in the Highlands can go many years between checks. A safety inspection looks at how the sensors, closing behaviour and emergency functions are working, and gives you a written record to keep on file.

What to think about for automatic door repairs in Portree

  • Shopping parades and business parks in Portree can have restricted parking or loading. Tell us where an engineer can park and unload tools when you book the visit.
  • Wet and windy weather causes many false openings. Sensors over exposed entrances can react to rain and blowing leaves, and a small change to the detection zone often cures it.
  • Rule out the simple things. Check whether the door's isolator or fused spur has been switched off, and whether other equipment on the same circuit has also stopped working.
  • Doors knocked by trolleys, pushchairs or deliveries often go out of line. Repeated impacts damage rollers and floor guides, so it helps to know roughly when the fault first appeared.
  • Older shopfronts in Portree may have automatic doors with discontinued drive units. Ask whether parts are still available before agreeing to a large repair, as a new operator may be better value.

Standards and rules in Scotland

BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them. Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible.

No law sets a fixed service interval. We recommend that a trained engineer checks the safety functions at least once a year, with service intervals set by the manufacturer’s instructions and how heavily the door is used, and that someone on site carries out simple regular checks and keeps a record.

How it works

  1. Report the fault or service. Let us know whether the door has failed, is behaving oddly or is simply due a service or safety inspection. A short video of the problem helps the engineer prepare for the visit.
  2. Agree the price first. Before anyone travels to Portree, the visit price is set out in writing. It is based on the door type, the work requested and the location, so you know the cost in advance.
  3. Diagnose, repair, test. On site, the engineer finds the cause and puts it right where the parts are to hand, or completes the planned service. Sensors, safety functions and emergency behaviour are checked before the door returns to use.
  4. Paperwork and next steps. A written record of the visit is left with you or sent afterwards. If parts must be ordered or more work is advisable, it is quoted separately and only goes ahead once you accept.

Send us a photo of the faulty door and its operator label in Portree. We will confirm the visit price in writing and offer the earliest engineer visit available.

Automatic door repairs in Portree: questions

Do you repair automatic doors in Portree?

Yes. We take the booking, agree the price and manage the job, and the visit in Portree is made by a specialist automatic door engineer working under our management. The engineers we send work on sliding, swing, folding and revolving doors from most makers, including doors we did not install. The visit price is confirmed with you in writing before the engineer is booked.

Is there a guide price for automatic door repairs in Portree?

Our guide starts from £95 excluding VAT (visit including the first hour), the same guide price we use across the UK. For homes that is from £114 including VAT. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends in Portree, and quote any parts or further work before doing them. The price guide lists typical repair and service costs.

Can you repair revolving doors in Portree?

Yes. The engineers we send work on automatic and manual revolving doors as well as sliding and swing doors. Revolving doors have extra safety devices, such as stop buttons and edge sensors, which are all tested after a repair. Parts for some revolving doors take longer to source, so photos of the drive and control panel help us prepare.

Do engineers carry spare parts for doors in Portree?

Engineers carry common parts such as sensors, belts and some rollers. Controllers, motors and parts for less common doors are ordered once the fault is confirmed, and delivery is typically 1 to 3 weeks. Knowing the make and model in advance improves the chance of a repair during the first visit.

Can visits in Portree be arranged outside working hours?

Yes, where the site needs it. Early-morning, evening and weekend visits can be arranged for shops, surgeries and offices that cannot lose their entrance during the day. Any difference in price for out-of-hours attendance is agreed in writing before the visit is booked, alongside the standard visit price.

How soon can an engineer get to Portree?

We do not promise response times. When you book, we give you the earliest date we can offer and confirm it once the price is agreed. If the door is unsafe in the meantime, it is usually best to switch it off or set it to a safe mode, put up a sign and keep people clear of it.

Is a building warrant needed for a new automatic entrance in Portree?

Often, yes. Most building work in Scotland needs a building warrant before it starts, and the non-domestic Technical Handbook sets out what an accessible entrance should provide, including a clear opening of at least 800 mm. We tell you at the survey if your job is likely to need one.
