Automatic door refurbishment on the Isle of Wight

For care homes, surgeries and public buildings on the Isle of Wight, a worn threshold or a door that drags makes entry harder for wheelchair users. Refurbishment can level the threshold, renew the floor guides and restore smooth, quiet running.

Coverage across the Isle of Wight

Here is how coverage works on the Isle of Wight. You contact us with the address and what the door needs, we confirm the price in writing, and a specialist engineer working under our management attends on an agreed date. That applies to automatic door refurbishment at a single shop door or across a whole estate of buildings, in any of the towns below or between them.

Towns listed on the Isle of Wight: Newport, Ryde, Cowes, Sandown.

What to think about for automatic door refurbishment on the Isle of Wight

  • Office blocks and business parks on the Isle of Wight with several matching doors can refurbish them together for a consistent finish and a lower cost per door.
  • If the operator is close to the end of its life, refurbishing the running gear while fitting a new drive unit saves a second visit and a second set-up.
  • Older shopfronts with discontinued door systems may need equivalent parts rather than exact matches. The survey identifies what is still available before anything is ordered.
  • High street doors on the Isle of Wight often have scratched or etched glass from years of cleaning and graffiti. Replacing leaves with new safety glass restores a clean look.
  • Listed buildings and conservation areas can limit changes to how the frame looks. Refurbishment within the existing frame usually avoids those issues and any need for consent.

Standards and rules in England

Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible. BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them.

Whoever motorises a manual door, or builds an automatic door from separate parts, may take on the manufacturer’s legal duties for the finished door: a risk assessment, a technical file kept available for the authorities, a Declaration of Conformity, the conformity marking and instructions. You receive the Declaration of Conformity and the instructions at handover. In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking.

Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.

How it works

  1. Tell us about the entrance. Send the address, a few photos and a rough size of the opening, and say how the door is used. That is enough for us to suggest options for automatic door refurbishment and book a survey on the Isle of Wight.
  2. Free site survey. A specialist engineer working under our management measures the opening, checks the frame, floor, head height and power, and talks through how people use the entrance. There is no charge and no obligation.
  3. Fixed written quote. You receive a fixed, itemised written quote with the specification, lead time, payment stages and warranty terms. The price does not change unless the scope does, and any change is agreed in writing first.
  4. Installation and handover. The door is fitted on the agreed dates, then set up, tested and documented with reference to BS EN 16005. You are shown the controls and the simple checks to make, and receive the handover paperwork.

Send us photos of the door that needs attention on the Isle of Wight, and we will arrange a survey at no cost and an itemised quote for the work.

Automatic door refurbishment on the Isle of Wight: questions

Is it worth refurbishing an old door at our premises on the Isle of Wight?

If the frame is sound and the opening size still works, usually yes, as refurbishment costs far less than a new door. If the frame is corroded, the glass is not safety glass or the opening is too narrow, a new door may be better value, and the survey tells you which.

Can you give me a price for automatic door refurbishment on the Isle of Wight?

Our guide starts from £395 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey on the Isle of Wight confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Will our entrance on the Isle of Wight stay open during refurbishment?

Often, at least in part. Many jobs can be done one leaf at a time, and the work can be planned for quieter hours. If the entrance does need to close, the quote says for how long, so you can arrange another way in for staff and visitors.

Can you replace a single broken glass leaf on the Isle of Wight?

Yes. The leaf is made safe, measured and reglazed with new safety glass, or replaced completely if its frame is damaged. New glass is typically 2 to 4 weeks from order. Once the leaf is rehung, the door is set up again and the track and floor guide are checked.

What power supply is needed for automatic door refurbishment on the Isle of Wight?

Most powered doors need a fused spur close to the operator, and some activation and access control devices also need a low-voltage link. The survey checks what is already there. If a new supply is required, the quote says whether we arrange it or your own electrician does, so nothing is left unclear on the day.

What do you need from us for parking and access on the Isle of Wight?

Somewhere for the engineer's van as close to the entrance as possible, and a clear working area around the door. If parking is restricted, loading rules apply or the site has security procedures, tell us when you book. Those details go into the plan so the visit is not held up on the day.

Do businesses on the Isle of Wight have to fit automatic doors?

No law says every building must have automatic doors. Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, and building regulations guidance in England calls for a powered door where an entrance door would otherwise be too heavy to open. An automatic door is often the simplest way to meet both.
