Automatic door refurbishment in Inverness

Refurbishing an entrance in Inverness costs a fraction of a new door when the frame is sound. If the frame or glass is past saving, the survey will say so, and a new door can be priced alongside for comparison.

Covering Inverness and nearby

Our coverage of Inverness takes in the IV1, IV2 and IV3 postcode districts and the neighbouring parts of the Highlands. If your address sits close to a boundary, it is still covered: send the postcode with your enquiry about automatic door refurbishment and we will confirm the arrangements and the price in writing.

GP surgeries, dental practices and pharmacies in Inverness often serve older patients and people with limited mobility. A low-energy swing operator, or a gentle sliding door with a push pad, can make a real difference at entrances like these.

Nearby towns we also list for automatic door refurbishment (straight-line distance): Nairn (14.6 miles), Forres (24.1 miles).

What to think about for automatic door refurbishment in Inverness

  • Floors around the door in Inverness may be worn or uneven. New floor guides and thresholds sometimes need small areas of making good, which the quote lists separately.
  • Frames near the coast or busy roads can corrode faster. The survey checks fixings and the bottom of the frame, where water and grit tend to collect.
  • Care settings in Inverness benefit from level thresholds and smooth-running leaves that do not snag walking frames, trolleys or wheelchair footplates as people pass through.
  • High street doors in Inverness often have scratched or etched glass from years of cleaning and graffiti. Replacing leaves with new safety glass restores a clean look.
  • Glass and made-to-measure leaves are typically 2 to 4 weeks from order. Plan the work around that lead time, especially if a damaged leaf is temporarily boarded.

Standards and rules in Scotland

Whoever motorises a manual door, or builds an automatic door from separate parts, may take on the manufacturer’s legal duties for the finished door: a risk assessment, a technical file kept available for the authorities, a Declaration of Conformity, the conformity marking and instructions. You receive the Declaration of Conformity and the instructions at handover. In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking.

Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible. BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them.

How it works

  1. Describe what you need. Whether the job is automatic door refurbishment for a busy entrance or for a single internal door, a brief description and some photos let us understand it and plan a survey visit in Inverness.
  2. Free visit to the site. An engineer working under our management assesses the opening, the existing door and frame, the floor and the electrical supply, and notes any access, consent or timing issues to plan around.
  3. Your fixed quotation. The quote is fixed for the work it describes and lists each item, including any removal, making good and electrical work. It also states the lead time, the payment stages and the warranty terms.
  4. Fitting and sign-off. Work goes ahead on dates agreed with you. Once fitted, the door is adjusted and its safety functions are tested and recorded with reference to BS EN 16005, and you are shown how to use it.

Automatic door refurbishment in Inverness: questions

Can you refinish the frame of our door in Inverness?

Yes. Aluminium frames can be cleaned, repaired and recoated on site to refresh their colour. Badly damaged sections may need replacing rather than refinishing. Refinishing is listed separately in the quote, so you can decide whether to include it now or leave it for a later phase.

What price range should I expect for automatic door refurbishment in Inverness?

Our guide starts from £395 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in Inverness confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Can refurbishment in Inverness help with draughts and heating costs?

New seals and brush strips, and leaves that close fully, reduce draughts through a closed door. For very exposed entrances, a second set of doors forming a draught lobby may also be worth considering, and we can price both so you can compare the likely benefit.

Will our entrance in Inverness stay open during refurbishment?

Often, at least in part. Many jobs can be done one leaf at a time, and the work can be planned for quieter hours. If the entrance does need to close, the quote says for how long, so you can arrange another way in for staff and visitors.

What power supply is needed for automatic door refurbishment in Inverness?

Most powered doors need a fused spur close to the operator, and some activation and access control devices also need a low-voltage link. The survey checks what is already there. If a new supply is required, the quote says whether we arrange it or your own electrician does, so nothing is left unclear on the day.

How much disruption should we expect while the work is done in Inverness?

Most installations take one visit or a short series of visits, with dust and noise kept to the area around the door. The engineer screens off the work area, keeps a route in or out where possible and clears up before leaving. Larger entrances, lobbies or structural changes take longer, and the quote explains how that work is phased.

Is a building warrant needed for a new automatic entrance in Inverness?

Often, yes. Most building work in Scotland needs a building warrant before it starts, and the non-domestic Technical Handbook sets out what an accessible entrance should provide, including a clear opening of at least 800 mm. We tell you at the survey if your job is likely to need one.
