Automatic door refurbishment in Cheshire

For care homes, surgeries and public buildings in Cheshire, a worn threshold or a door that drags makes entry harder for wheelchair users. Refurbishment can level the threshold, renew the floor guides and restore smooth, quiet running.

Coverage across Cheshire

Our coverage of Cheshire is not tied to a depot or a showroom. Engineers who carry out automatic door refurbishment for us travel to each site, so a farm shop down a country lane goes through the same process as a city-centre office. Every job is priced in writing before work starts, and the town list below currently numbers 13.

Towns listed in Cheshire: Warrington, Chester, Crewe, Ellesmere Port, Widnes, Runcorn, Macclesfield, Northwich, Winsford, Congleton, Wilmslow, Sandbach, Nantwich.

What to think about for automatic door refurbishment in Cheshire

  • Frames near the coast or busy roads can corrode faster. The survey checks fixings and the bottom of the frame, where water and grit tend to collect.
  • Exposed entrances in Cheshire suffer most from worn seals and brush strips. New weatherproofing can cut draughts and noise noticeably, especially on doors facing the prevailing wind.
  • Busy retail units in Cheshire may prefer the work done in stages, one leaf at a time, so the entrance stays open throughout trading hours.
  • After refurbishment, sensors and speeds are reset to suit the new parts. Keep the test record with your service history so later engineers can see what was done.
  • If the operator is close to the end of its life, refurbishing the running gear while fitting a new drive unit saves a second visit and a second set-up.

Standards and rules in England

Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible. BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them.

Whoever motorises a manual door, or builds an automatic door from separate parts, may take on the manufacturer’s legal duties for the finished door: a risk assessment, a technical file kept available for the authorities, a Declaration of Conformity, the conformity marking and instructions. You receive the Declaration of Conformity and the instructions at handover. In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking.

Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.

How it works

  1. Describe what you need. Whether the job is automatic door refurbishment for a busy entrance or for a single internal door, a brief description and some photos let us understand it and plan a survey visit in Cheshire.
  2. Free visit to the site. An engineer working under our management assesses the opening, the existing door and frame, the floor and the electrical supply, and notes any access, consent or timing issues to plan around.
  3. Your fixed quotation. The quote is fixed for the work it describes and lists each item, including any removal, making good and electrical work. It also states the lead time, the payment stages and the warranty terms.
  4. Fitting and sign-off. Work goes ahead on dates agreed with you. Once fitted, the door is adjusted and its safety functions are tested and recorded with reference to BS EN 16005, and you are shown how to use it.

Automatic door refurbishment in Cheshire: questions

Can refurbishment in Cheshire help with draughts and heating costs?

New seals and brush strips, and leaves that close fully, reduce draughts through a closed door. For very exposed entrances, a second set of doors forming a draught lobby may also be worth considering, and we can price both so you can compare the likely benefit.

What do you charge for automatic door refurbishment in Cheshire?

Our guide starts from £395 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in Cheshire confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Can you refurbish a door in Cheshire that another company installed?

Yes. We refurbish doors whoever fitted them. The survey identifies the door system, and matching or equivalent rollers, guides, seals and glass are then sourced for it. If a part is no longer made, the quote explains the alternative.

Can you refinish the frame of our door in Cheshire?

Yes. Aluminium frames can be cleaned, repaired and recoated on site to refresh their colour. Badly damaged sections may need replacing rather than refinishing. Refinishing is listed separately in the quote, so you can decide whether to include it now or leave it for a later phase.

What power supply is needed for automatic door refurbishment in Cheshire?

Most powered doors need a fused spur close to the operator, and some activation and access control devices also need a low-voltage link. The survey checks what is already there. If a new supply is required, the quote says whether we arrange it or your own electrician does, so nothing is left unclear on the day.

What should I send before the survey in Cheshire?

A few photos of the door from inside and outside, rough measurements of the opening, the address and a note of how the entrance is used. If the door already has an operator, a photo of any label on it helps. With that, the engineer arrives prepared, the survey takes less of your time and we can put the quote for automatic door refurbishment together more easily.

Who is responsible for automatic doors on escape routes in Cheshire?

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 the responsible person for the premises must make sure escape routes work and fire safety equipment is maintained. Automatic doors on an escape route need fail-safe opening or break-out, set by the fire strategy.
