Coverage across Perth and Kinross

Not every part of Perth and Kinross is easy to reach, and some sites need planning around access, parking or opening hours. We take that into account when arranging accessible door operators, and the engineer, working under our management, arrives with what the job is likely to need. The towns below, 3 in all, each have their own page, but any address in the area can be covered.

What to think about for accessible door operators in Perth and Kinross

  • Doors in exposed spots around Perth and Kinross can be caught by the wind. A low-energy operator has limited force, so the survey checks whether the door will open and close reliably on a gusty day.
  • Community halls and churches in Perth and Kinross may only be busy at certain times. A timer or key switch can keep the operator on while the building is open and leave the door manual the rest of the time.
  • Power is usually taken from a fused spur near the head of the door. If there is no supply close by, allow for an electrician to run one, ideally hidden in trunking or the wall.
  • Think about the whole route, not just one door. A step, a heavy inner door or a tight turn after an automatic entrance can still stop a wheelchair user getting where they need to go.
  • Place push pads where a wheelchair user can reach them without the door swinging into them. That often means mounting a pad on a post or a side wall rather than on the frame.

Standards and rules in Scotland

Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers in Scotland must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, which can include altering a physical feature such as a heavy entrance door. Fitting an automatic door helps, but does not on its own guarantee those duties are met.

Scottish building standards guidance (the non-domestic Technical Handbook) expects an accessible entrance door to give a clear opening of at least 800 mm, says powered doors improve accessibility as long as they add no new hazard, and expects signage, sensors that hold the door open long enough, and guarding against collision or entrapment.

Whoever motorises a manual door, or builds an automatic door from separate parts, may take on the manufacturer’s legal duties for the finished door: a risk assessment, a technical file kept available for the authorities, a Declaration of Conformity, the conformity marking and instructions. You receive the Declaration of Conformity and the instructions at handover. In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking.

How it works

  1. Tell us about the entrance. Send the address, a few photos and a rough size of the opening, and say how the door is used. That is enough for us to suggest options for accessible door operators and book a survey in Perth and Kinross.
  2. Free site survey. A specialist engineer working under our management measures the opening, checks the frame, floor, head height and power, and talks through how people use the entrance. There is no charge and no obligation.
  3. Fixed written quote. You receive a fixed, itemised written quote with the specification, lead time, payment stages and warranty terms. The price does not change unless the scope does, and any change is agreed in writing first.
  4. Installation and handover. The door is fitted on the agreed dates, then set up, tested and documented with reference to BS EN 16005. You are shown the controls and the simple checks to make, and receive the handover paperwork.

Accessible door operators in Perth and Kinross: questions

Can you fit operators to several doors across our sites in Perth and Kinross?

Yes. We can survey several doors or buildings in one visit where they are close together and quote each door separately, so you can phase the work if budgets need it. Controls and push pads can be kept the same across sites for consistency.

Is there a guide price for accessible door operators in Perth and Kinross?

Our guide is £1,795 to £2,995 excluding VAT (per single door), the same guide prices we use across the UK. The free site survey in Perth and Kinross confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Can you fit an accessible operator to a door at our surgery in Perth and Kinross?

Yes, in most cases. We check the door, hinges, frame and the wall above at a free survey, then quote a fixed price for the operator, push pads and any repairs needed first. Fitting usually takes half a day to a day per door, planned around your opening hours.

Can the operator be serviced after installation in Perth and Kinross?

Yes. We can arrange visits where the speed, force, safety settings, push pads and closer are checked and a written record is left. You agree the cost of each visit in writing beforehand, and how often we come depends on how much the door is used.

What do you need from us for parking and access in Perth and Kinross?

Somewhere for the engineer's van as close to the entrance as possible, and a clear working area around the door. If parking is restricted, loading rules apply or the site has security procedures, tell us when you book. Those details go into the plan so the visit is not held up on the day.

Is there a warranty on accessible door operators?

Yes. The warranty terms for the equipment and the installation are set out in your written quote, so you can see exactly what is covered before you accept. Keeping the door serviced at the recommended intervals helps keep it in good order, and the quote explains any conditions that apply to the warranty.

Who is responsible for automatic doors on escape routes in Perth and Kinross?

The person responsible for fire safety under the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 for those premises. Scottish guidance allows automatic doors on escape routes only where they fail safely to outward opening or have a monitored fail-safe system that opens them on power failure, sensor failure and fire alarm.
