Coverage across the Isle of Wight
Enquiries about accessible door operators come to us from right across the Isle of Wight, and each one is handled the same way. Specialist automatic door engineers working under our management travel to the address, and we remain your contracting party throughout. The 4 towns we list below are a starting point, not a boundary: villages, business parks and rural sites in between are covered as well.
Towns listed on the Isle of Wight: Newport, Ryde, Cowes, Sandown.
What to think about for accessible door operators on the Isle of Wight
- Doors in exposed spots around the Isle of Wight can be caught by the wind. A low-energy operator has limited force, so the survey checks whether the door will open and close reliably on a gusty day.
- GP surgeries and clinics on the Isle of Wight often want the main entrance and the accessible toilet done together. Pricing both at one survey saves a second visit and keeps the controls consistent.
- Offices and shared buildings on the Isle of Wight often have doors used by both staff and visitors. Power assist for everyday use, with a push pad for those who need full opening, keeps the door easy for everyone.
- Older public buildings on the Isle of Wight often have heavy timber doors on worn hinges. Fixing the hinges and the way the door hangs before the operator goes on gives a smoother, longer-lasting result.
- Place push pads where a wheelchair user can reach them without the door swinging into them. That often means mounting a pad on a post or a side wall rather than on the frame.

Standards and rules in England
Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, which can include altering a physical feature such as a heavy entrance door. Fitting an automatic door helps, but does not on its own guarantee those duties are met.
Building regulations guidance in England (Approved Document M, Volume 2) says a powered opening system should be used where a self-closing entrance door would need more than 30 N at the leading edge to open, or more than 22.5 N between 30° and 60°, and expects external doors used by the public in new buildings to give at least 1000 mm of effective clear width.
Whoever motorises a manual door, or builds an automatic door from separate parts, may take on the manufacturer’s legal duties for the finished door: a risk assessment, a technical file kept available for the authorities, a Declaration of Conformity, the conformity marking and instructions. You receive the Declaration of Conformity and the instructions at handover. In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking.
How it works
- Send photos and the address. A few pictures of the door from both sides, the address on the Isle of Wight and a note of who uses the entrance help us understand the job before anyone visits the site.
- No-cost survey on site. We arrange a survey at a time that suits the building. The engineer records measurements, fixings and power, plus any constraints such as listed status, opening hours or access for deliveries.
- Itemised quote to approve. We price every element of the work on accessible door operators separately in a written quote that you can check, share and approve. Lead time and payment stages are stated, and nothing is ordered until you accept.
- Fit, test and hand over. On the agreed dates the engineer installs the equipment, commissions the operator and tests each safety function. You get a demonstration, the test record and any conformity paperwork that applies to the work.

Accessible door operators on the Isle of Wight: questions
Our building on the Isle of Wight is listed. Can we still have an operator?
Often, yes. Low-energy operators are compact and can sometimes be mounted on the inside face, with cabling hidden. Listed building consent may still be needed for fixings or new switches, so check with the planning authority. We can supply product details for an application.
What price range should I expect for accessible door operators on the Isle of Wight?
Our guide is £1,795 to £2,995 excluding VAT (per single door), the same guide prices we use across the UK. The free site survey on the Isle of Wight confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.
Who will fit the operator at our building on the Isle of Wight?
The engineer will be a specialist working under our management. We are the contracting party, so the quote, the warranty terms and any follow-up all come through us. Before handover, the door is set up, tested and documented with reference to BS EN 16005.
How soon can an operator be fitted at our premises on the Isle of Wight?
Lead time is typically 2 to 4 weeks from accepting the quote, depending on the operator and any parts the door needs. We give the expected lead time in writing with the quote, and agree the fitting date with you once the parts are ready.
How are payments structured for work on the Isle of Wight?
Payment stages are set out in the quote before you accept it. Larger or made-to-order jobs may involve a deposit and a balance on completion, while smaller jobs may be invoiced once the work is finished. Nothing is charged for the survey itself, and the terms you accept are the terms that apply.
Is there a warranty on accessible door operators?
Yes. The warranty terms for the equipment and the installation are set out in your written quote, so you can see exactly what is covered before you accept. Keeping the door serviced at the recommended intervals helps keep it in good order, and the quote explains any conditions that apply to the warranty.
Who is responsible for automatic doors on escape routes on the Isle of Wight?
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 the responsible person for the premises must make sure escape routes work and fire safety equipment is maintained. Automatic doors on an escape route need fail-safe opening or break-out, set by the fire strategy.
