Coverage across Ayrshire

Not every part of Ayrshire is easy to reach, and some sites need planning around access, parking or opening hours. We take that into account when arranging accessible door operators, and the engineer, working under our management, arrives with what the job is likely to need. The towns below, 11 in all, each have their own page, but any address in the area can be covered.

What to think about for accessible door operators in Ayrshire

  • Place push pads where a wheelchair user can reach them without the door swinging into them. That often means mounting a pad on a post or a side wall rather than on the frame.
  • Community halls and churches in Ayrshire may only be busy at certain times. A timer or key switch can keep the operator on while the building is open and leave the door manual the rest of the time.
  • If the door is a fire door, find its rating or records before the survey. Fixings and cabling must respect the rating, and the operator must release the door on the fire alarm.
  • GP surgeries and clinics in Ayrshire often want the main entrance and the accessible toilet done together. Pricing both at one survey saves a second visit and keeps the controls consistent.
  • Power is usually taken from a fused spur near the head of the door. If there is no supply close by, allow for an electrician to run one, ideally hidden in trunking or the wall.

Standards and rules in Scotland

Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers in Scotland must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, which can include altering a physical feature such as a heavy entrance door. Fitting an automatic door helps, but does not on its own guarantee those duties are met.

Scottish building standards guidance (the non-domestic Technical Handbook) expects an accessible entrance door to give a clear opening of at least 800 mm, says powered doors improve accessibility as long as they add no new hazard, and expects signage, sensors that hold the door open long enough, and guarding against collision or entrapment.

Whoever motorises a manual door, or builds an automatic door from separate parts, may take on the manufacturer’s legal duties for the finished door: a risk assessment, a technical file kept available for the authorities, a Declaration of Conformity, the conformity marking and instructions. You receive the Declaration of Conformity and the instructions at handover. In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking.

How it works

  1. Send photos and the address. A few pictures of the door from both sides, the address in Ayrshire and a note of who uses the entrance help us understand the job before anyone visits the site.
  2. No-cost survey on site. We arrange a survey at a time that suits the building. The engineer records measurements, fixings and power, plus any constraints such as listed status, opening hours or access for deliveries.
  3. Itemised quote to approve. We price every element of the work on accessible door operators separately in a written quote that you can check, share and approve. Lead time and payment stages are stated, and nothing is ordered until you accept.
  4. Fit, test and hand over. On the agreed dates the engineer installs the equipment, commissions the operator and tests each safety function. You get a demonstration, the test record and any conformity paperwork that applies to the work.

Accessible door operators in Ayrshire: questions

Can you fit an accessible operator to a door at our surgery in Ayrshire?

Yes, in most cases. We check the door, hinges, frame and the wall above at a free survey, then quote a fixed price for the operator, push pads and any repairs needed first. Fitting usually takes half a day to a day per door, planned around your opening hours.

What do you charge for accessible door operators in Ayrshire?

Our guide is £1,795 to £2,995 excluding VAT (per single door), the same guide prices we use across the UK. The free site survey in Ayrshire confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

What if the door in Ayrshire is too heavy for a low-energy operator?

Some large or exposed doors need a full-energy operator with safety sensors, or a lighter replacement door, to work reliably. The survey will tell you which, and the quote explains why. Where it will work, we offer the low-energy option first because it is simpler to live with.

Do you fit operators to accessible toilets in Ayrshire?

Yes. An accessible toilet usually needs a low-energy operator, push pads inside and out, a lock button that stops the door opening from outside while in use, and an emergency release for staff. We price the full kit, test it with your staff and leave the settings in writing.

What is the lead time for accessible door operators in Ayrshire?

Lead times depend on the door type and what has to be made to order. As a guide, operators and accessible door kits are typically two to four weeks from order, and complete sliding entrances typically four to eight weeks from drawing approval. Curved, revolving and hermetic doors usually take longer. The expected lead time is stated in your quote.

What does the written quote for accessible door operators in Ayrshire include?

The quote lists each item separately: the door or equipment, installation, electrical connections where we provide them, removal of anything being replaced, testing and handover. It is a fixed price for the work described, so it does not change unless the scope changes, and any change is agreed with you in writing first.

Is a building warrant needed for a new automatic entrance in Ayrshire?

Often, yes. Most building work in Scotland needs a building warrant before it starts, and the non-domestic Technical Handbook sets out what an accessible entrance should provide, including a clear opening of at least 800 mm. We tell you at the survey if your job is likely to need one.
