Coverage across Dumfries and Galloway

Our coverage of Dumfries and Galloway is not tied to a depot or a showroom. Engineers who carry out touch-free and push-button activation for us travel to each site, so a farm shop down a country lane goes through the same process as a city-centre office. Every job is priced in writing before work starts, and the town list below currently numbers 3.

What to think about for touch-free and push-button activation in Dumfries and Galloway

  • Car parks and drop-off points in Dumfries and Galloway benefit from a switch on a post, so drivers and passengers can open the door before they reach it.
  • Shops on high streets in Dumfries and Galloway may want the door to open for customers but not for people walking past outside. Narrowing the sensor field or adding a switch helps.
  • Listed buildings in Dumfries and Galloway may restrict new fixings on historic walls. Wireless switches mounted on posts or glazing can avoid cutting into original fabric, and are easy to move later.
  • Look at where people approach the door from. A switch that can only be reached once someone is already at the door, or in the leaf's path, is in the wrong place.
  • Homes in Dumfries and Galloway often need controls for more than one person. Carers, family and the person using the door may each need their own fob or button.

Standards and rules in Scotland

Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers in Scotland must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, which can include altering a physical feature such as a heavy entrance door. Fitting an automatic door helps, but does not on its own guarantee those duties are met.

Scottish building standards guidance (the non-domestic Technical Handbook) expects an accessible entrance door to give a clear opening of at least 800 mm, says powered doors improve accessibility as long as they add no new hazard, and expects signage, sensors that hold the door open long enough, and guarding against collision or entrapment.

Whoever motorises a manual door, or builds an automatic door from separate parts, may take on the manufacturer’s legal duties for the finished door: a risk assessment, a technical file kept available for the authorities, a Declaration of Conformity, the conformity marking and instructions. You receive the Declaration of Conformity and the instructions at handover. In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking.

How it works

  1. Tell us about the entrance. Send the address, a few photos and a rough size of the opening, and say how the door is used. That is enough for us to suggest options for touch-free and push-button activation and book a survey in Dumfries and Galloway.
  2. Free site survey. A specialist engineer working under our management measures the opening, checks the frame, floor, head height and power, and talks through how people use the entrance. There is no charge and no obligation.
  3. Fixed written quote. You receive a fixed, itemised written quote with the specification, lead time, payment stages and warranty terms. The price does not change unless the scope does, and any change is agreed in writing first.
  4. Installation and handover. The door is fitted on the agreed dates, then set up, tested and documented with reference to BS EN 16005. You are shown the controls and the simple checks to make, and receive the handover paperwork.

Touch-free and push-button activation in Dumfries and Galloway: questions

Can wave switches in Dumfries and Galloway be linked to our access control?

Yes. A wave switch can be set to work only after the access control system has released the lock, or to let people out freely from the inside while entry needs a card. We agree how it should behave and test it with your system at handover.

What is the guide price for touch-free and push-button activation in Dumfries and Galloway?

Our guide starts from £145 excluding VAT (per switch fitted), the same guide price we use across the UK. For homes that is from £174 including VAT. The free site survey in Dumfries and Galloway confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Our door in Dumfries and Galloway keeps opening for passers-by. Can you fix it?

Usually, by adjusting or narrowing the sensor field, or by changing to a switch on that side. If the sensor is old or faulty, it may need replacing. A visit to adjust or replace a sensor is priced in writing before anyone attends, as that is care work.

Can you add touch-free switches to our automatic doors in Dumfries and Galloway?

Usually, yes. Most operators have spare inputs for extra devices. We check the door, operator and wiring route at a free survey, then quote a fixed price for the switches and fitting. Wireless switches are an option where running cables would be difficult.

What does the written quote for touch-free and push-button activation in Dumfries and Galloway include?

The quote lists each item separately: the door or equipment, installation, electrical connections where we provide them, removal of anything being replaced, testing and handover. It is a fixed price for the work described, so it does not change unless the scope changes, and any change is agreed with you in writing first.

Do you service doors in Dumfries and Galloway after installing them?

Yes. We recommend a trained engineer checks the safety functions at least once a year, with service intervals set by the manufacturer's instructions and how heavily the door is used; busy doors are often serviced more often. Servicing can follow on from the installation, with the price agreed in writing and a record left after every visit.

Who is responsible for automatic doors on escape routes in Dumfries and Galloway?

The person responsible for fire safety under the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 for those premises. Scottish guidance allows automatic doors on escape routes only where they fail safely to outward opening or have a monitored fail-safe system that opens them on power failure, sensor failure and fire alarm.
