Covering Hugh Town and nearby
We cover the whole of the TR21 postcode district, along with nearby towns in Cornwall. You book each visit for safety inspections and risk assessments directly with us, and a specialist automatic door engineer working under our management travels to your site on the agreed date.
Because a missing part can mean another crossing, engineers visiting Hugh Town carry the common spares for the type of door they are working on. Where a specific part is needed, it is ordered in advance and brought on the same trip as the fitting.
What to think about for safety inspections and risk assessments in Hugh Town
- Programme switches left in the wrong mode cause many incidents. The inspection checks the switch is secure, labelled and set correctly for each time of day.
- Older shopfronts and listed buildings in Hugh Town may have narrow side screens and tight gaps that were thought acceptable when fitted. The report weighs what can reasonably be improved.
- Schools and nurseries need particular care with finger traps at hinges and beside side screens, because children are more likely to put their hands into gaps.
- Shared entrances in office blocks and business parks in Hugh Town may serve several tenants. Agree who holds the report and who pays for upgrades before booking.
- Public buildings in Hugh Town, such as libraries and leisure centres, often have several doors of different ages. A whole-site inspection puts every door into one ranked report.

Standards and rules in England
BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them. Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible.
Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance. HSE guidance on those regulations says the frequency of maintenance depends on the equipment and the manufacturer’s information.
How it works
- Share the details. Send the address in Hugh Town, the door type and make if you know it, and a description or video of the problem. For servicing, tell us how many doors there are and how busy each one is.
- Price confirmed in writing. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends. Some straightforward repairs can be priced in full from photos and the make and model of the door.
- Diagnosis and repair. A specialist engineer attends on the agreed date, finds the cause, repairs or services the door, and tests its operation, sensors and safety functions with reference to BS EN 16005.
- Written record. Each visit ends with a written record for your files. Anything still outstanding, such as parts on order or recommended upgrades, is quoted before any further work is done.

Safety inspections and risk assessments in Hugh Town: questions
Do you carry out automatic door safety inspections in Hugh Town?
Yes. We organise the inspection and issue the report, and the assessment in Hugh Town is carried out by a specialist engineer under our management. Each door is assessed on site against BS EN 16005 hazard zones, its safety sensors are tested and you receive a written report with ranked findings. The inspection price is agreed in writing before the visit.
What will safety inspections and risk assessments in Hugh Town cost?
Our guide is £125 to £250 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide prices we use across the UK. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends in Hugh Town, and quote any parts or further work before doing them. The price guide lists typical repair and service costs.
Do we have to use you for the upgrades the inspection recommends in Hugh Town?
No. The report is yours, and any competent installer can carry out the work. If you want us to do it, each upgrade is quoted separately and itemised, so you can phase the work and start with the high-priority items.
How often should doors in Hugh Town be risk assessed?
There is no set legal frequency. Most owners assess each door once, then repeat the assessment when the door is altered, when the people using it change or after an incident. In between, regular servicing keeps the safety functions checked, which in our view should happen at least once a year.
Do you cover island addresses for safety inspections and risk assessments in England?
Yes, by arrangement. For island addresses, travel is included in the agreed visit price, and visits are planned around ferry timings. Because a missing part can mean another crossing, photos and door details sent in advance help the engineer bring what is likely to be needed on the first trip.
Which makes of automatic door can you work on in Hugh Town?
Engineers working under our management work on most makes of automatic door, including sliding, swing, folding, telescopic and revolving types. Some older or obsolete operators have limited parts availability. If that applies, we explain the options, which may include a replacement drive unit on the existing frame, and quote them before anything is ordered.
Which building regulations apply to a new automatic entrance in Hugh Town?
In England the guidance is Approved Document M (Volume 2) for access, Approved Document B for fire safety and escape routes, and Approved Document K for glazing and powered doors. A new entrance can count as building work, so building control should be involved before it is ordered.
