Covering Ayr and nearby

If your building is in Ayr, or anywhere in the KA7 and KA8 postcode districts, we can arrange safety inspections and risk assessments. Visits are booked with you in advance, timed around opening hours where that matters, and carried out by engineers who work under our management.

Parking on a busy high street can be tight. When work is booked in Ayr, the engineer's arrival is planned around loading restrictions, any market days and opening hours, so the visit causes as little disruption as possible.

Nearby towns we also list for safety inspections and risk assessments (straight-line distance): Prestwick (1.6 miles), Troon (5.7 miles), Irvine (10.9 miles), Kilmarnock (11.6 miles), Stevenston (13.1 miles), Saltcoats (13.4 miles).

What to think about for safety inspections and risk assessments in Ayr

  • Public buildings in Ayr, such as libraries and leisure centres, often have several doors of different ages. A whole-site inspection puts every door into one ranked report.
  • Shared entrances in office blocks and business parks in Ayr may serve several tenants. Agree who holds the report and who pays for upgrades before booking.
  • Glass leaves need safety glazing and visible markings. Faded or missing manifestation is a common finding, and one of the quickest and cheapest to put right.
  • Insurers sometimes ask for inspection reports at renewal. Booking the inspection well before the renewal date gives you time to act on any high-priority findings first.
  • Older shopfronts and listed buildings in Ayr may have narrow side screens and tight gaps that were thought acceptable when fitted. The report weighs what can reasonably be improved.

Standards and rules in Scotland

Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance. HSE guidance on those regulations says the frequency of maintenance depends on the equipment and the manufacturer’s information.

BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them. Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible.

How it works

  1. Share the details. Send the address in Ayr, the door type and make if you know it, and a description or video of the problem. For servicing, tell us how many doors there are and how busy each one is.
  2. Price confirmed in writing. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends. Some straightforward repairs can be priced in full from photos and the make and model of the door.
  3. Diagnosis and repair. A specialist engineer attends on the agreed date, finds the cause, repairs or services the door, and tests its operation, sensors and safety functions with reference to BS EN 16005.
  4. Written record. Each visit ends with a written record for your files. Anything still outstanding, such as parts on order or recommended upgrades, is quoted before any further work is done.

Safety inspections and risk assessments in Ayr: questions

Do you carry out automatic door safety inspections in Ayr?

Yes. We organise the inspection and issue the report, and the assessment in Ayr is carried out by a specialist engineer under our management. Each door is assessed on site against BS EN 16005 hazard zones, its safety sensors are tested and you receive a written report with ranked findings. The inspection price is agreed in writing before the visit.

What is the guide price for safety inspections and risk assessments in Ayr?

Our guide is £125 to £250 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide prices we use across the UK. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends in Ayr, and quote any parts or further work before doing them. The price guide lists typical repair and service costs.

Can you inspect all the doors on our site in Ayr in one visit?

Usually, yes. A whole-site inspection covers every automatic door in one visit and one report, with each door's findings ranked so you can compare priorities across the site. Larger sites may need more than one day, which we agree with you when the inspection is priced.

What if a door in Ayr is found to be unsafe?

The engineer explains the problem before leaving and may recommend switching the door to a safer mode until it is fixed. High-priority findings are flagged at the top of the report. We can quote the repair or upgrade straight away, or you can arrange it with another competent installer.

Can you take over servicing of doors in Ayr from another company?

Yes. Send us the door details and, if you have them, previous service records or inspection reports. The first visit gives a baseline for each door, and its price is agreed in writing beforehand. From then on, records continue in one consistent format, whichever company looked after the doors before.

Do you leave a written record after each visit in Ayr?

Yes. Every visit ends with a written record of what was checked, what was done and anything that still needs attention. For safety inspections you receive a report of the findings and a site-specific risk assessment. Keeping these on file is the usual way to show that a workplace door is maintained and in good working order.

Is a building warrant needed for a new automatic entrance in Ayr?

Often, yes. Most building work in Scotland needs a building warrant before it starts, and the non-domestic Technical Handbook sets out what an accessible entrance should provide, including a clear opening of at least 800 mm. We tell you at the survey if your job is likely to need one.
