What to think about for hermetic sliding doors in West Sussex
- Pharmacy aseptic units in West Sussex may want doors that follow the colour coding of their clean zones. Leaf finishes can be chosen in a different colour for each grade of room.
- Interlocked doors need clear logic. Decide with your engineers which door has priority, how staff override the interlock in an emergency and what the status lights should show.
- Choose finishes that stand up to the cleaning regime at your site in West Sussex. Stainless steel and high-pressure laminate cope with strong disinfectants, but check the chemicals your cleaning team uses first.
- Private hospitals, veterinary practices and dental surgeries in West Sussex sometimes need hermetic doors for treatment rooms too. The same survey and specification process applies, scaled to the room.
- Imaging rooms in West Sussex need the lead equivalence confirmed by a radiation protection adviser. The lead lining adds weight, which affects the choice of operator and frame.

Standards and rules in England
BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them.
In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.
Glass in and beside doors must be safety glass or protected where people could walk into it, and clear glass needs markings in two bands, 850 mm to 1000 mm and 1400 mm to 1600 mm above the floor (Approved Document K).
How it works
- Describe what you need. Whether the job is hermetic sliding doors for a busy entrance or for a single internal door, a brief description and some photos let us understand it and plan a survey visit in West Sussex.
- Free visit to the site. An engineer working under our management assesses the opening, the existing door and frame, the floor and the electrical supply, and notes any access, consent or timing issues to plan around.
- Your fixed quotation. The quote is fixed for the work it describes and lists each item, including any removal, making good and electrical work. It also states the lead time, the payment stages and the warranty terms.
- Fitting and sign-off. Work goes ahead on dates agreed with you. Once fitted, the door is adjusted and its safety functions are tested and recorded with reference to BS EN 16005, and you are shown how to use it.

Hermetic sliding doors in West Sussex: questions
Can our existing theatre door in West Sussex be upgraded rather than replaced?
Sometimes. Where the leaf and frame are sound, new seals, an adjusted or replaced operator and new touch-free switches can restore performance. Where the frame is damaged or the door is no longer supported, replacement is usually better. The survey looks at both and explains the difference.
Is there a guide price for hermetic sliding doors in West Sussex?
Our guide starts from £8,995 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in West Sussex confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.
Can you work within our infection control procedures in West Sussex?
Yes. Work in clinical and cleanroom areas is planned around your permits, screening and dust control requirements, and around room shutdowns. Share your procedures at the survey and we will build them into the method statement and the programme for the installation.
Can you supply lead-lined hermetic doors in West Sussex?
Yes. Lead-lined leaves and frames are made to the lead equivalence your radiation protection adviser specifies, with the same seals, finishes and touch-free activation as other hermetic doors. The extra weight is allowed for in the operator and the fixings.
What power supply is needed for hermetic sliding doors in West Sussex?
Most powered doors need a fused spur close to the operator, and some activation and access control devices also need a low-voltage link. The survey checks what is already there. If a new supply is required, the quote says whether we arrange it or your own electrician does, so nothing is left unclear on the day.
How are payments structured for work in West Sussex?
Payment stages are set out in the quote before you accept it. Larger or made-to-order jobs may involve a deposit and a balance on completion, while smaller jobs may be invoiced once the work is finished. Nothing is charged for the survey itself, and the terms you accept are the terms that apply.
Do businesses in West Sussex have to fit automatic doors?
No law says every building must have automatic doors. Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, and building regulations guidance in England calls for a powered door where an entrance door would otherwise be too heavy to open. An automatic door is often the simplest way to meet both.
