What to think about for hermetic sliding doors in Northamptonshire

  • The floor must be flat and continuous through the opening. Welded vinyl or resin floors should be completed or repaired before the door is fitted, so the bottom seal meets a true surface.
  • Imaging rooms in Northamptonshire need the lead equivalence confirmed by a radiation protection adviser. The lead lining adds weight, which affects the choice of operator and frame.
  • Labs and cleanrooms in Northamptonshire often have modular wall panels. Frame details must match the panel system, so involve the cleanroom contractor before the door is ordered.
  • Pharmacy aseptic units in Northamptonshire may want doors that follow the colour coding of their clean zones. Leaf finishes can be chosen in a different colour for each grade of room.
  • Power, building management and fire alarm links need planning with your electrical contractor. Cable routes into sealed cleanroom ceilings must be agreed early, before the panels are sealed.

Standards and rules in England

BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them.

In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.

Glass in and beside doors must be safety glass or protected where people could walk into it, and clear glass needs markings in two bands, 850 mm to 1000 mm and 1400 mm to 1600 mm above the floor (Approved Document K).

How it works

  1. Start with a short enquiry. Use the form, phone or email. Tell us whether the work is a new door, an upgrade or an opener for a home, and we arrange the next step for your site in Northamptonshire.
  2. Measured survey. The free survey confirms what will fit and what the entrance needs: opening width, door type, activation, safety sensors and behaviour on power loss or fire alarm, matched to how the building is used.
  3. Written price, no surprises. A fixed, itemised quote sets out the specification, the work involved, the expected lead time and the warranty terms. You can ask questions or change the specification before accepting it.
  4. Installed and commissioned. The door is installed with as little disruption as possible, then set up and tested for its hazard zones. Before leaving, the engineer explains the controls and hands over the documents for your records.

Use the guide price tool for an early figure, then let us survey your rooms in Northamptonshire and fix the price in writing.

Hermetic sliding doors in Northamptonshire: questions

Will the hermetic door in Northamptonshire link to our building management system?

It can. The operator can send door status to the building management system and receive signals from it, as well as from the fire alarm and access control. The interface is agreed with your controls contractor and shown in the quote, so responsibilities are clear.

What is the guide price for hermetic sliding doors in Northamptonshire?

Our guide starts from £8,995 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in Northamptonshire confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Who maintains hermetic doors in Northamptonshire once fitted?

We can, through planned servicing with each visit priced in writing before an engineer attends. Seals, sensors and interlocks need regular checks, and a trained engineer should test the safety functions at least once a year. Many theatres and cleanrooms schedule more frequent checks as part of their own maintenance programme.

Can our existing theatre door in Northamptonshire be upgraded rather than replaced?

Sometimes. Where the leaf and frame are sound, new seals, an adjusted or replaced operator and new touch-free switches can restore performance. Where the frame is damaged or the door is no longer supported, replacement is usually better. The survey looks at both and explains the difference.

Is there a warranty on hermetic sliding doors?

Yes. The warranty terms for the equipment and the installation are set out in your written quote, so you can see exactly what is covered before you accept. Keeping the door serviced at the recommended intervals helps keep it in good order, and the quote explains any conditions that apply to the warranty.

How much disruption should we expect while the work is done in Northamptonshire?

Most installations take one visit or a short series of visits, with dust and noise kept to the area around the door. The engineer screens off the work area, keeps a route in or out where possible and clears up before leaving. Larger entrances, lobbies or structural changes take longer, and the quote explains how that work is phased.

Who is responsible for automatic doors on escape routes in Northamptonshire?

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 the responsible person for the premises must make sure escape routes work and fire safety equipment is maintained. Automatic doors on an escape route need fail-safe opening or break-out, set by the fire strategy.
