Covering Hounslow and nearby

Engineers working under our management travel to addresses across the TW3 and TW4 postcode districts for automating an existing door. There is no depot or showroom in Hounslow; you arrange everything with us by phone, email or the form on this page, and we confirm the price in writing first.

Space for materials and tools is limited at many addresses in Hounslow, especially on narrow or pedestrianised streets in Greater London. Larger door sets are delivered for the time of fitting, and access and parking restrictions are planned into the visit.

Nearby towns we also list for automating an existing door (straight-line distance): Twickenham (1.9 miles), Richmond (2.4 miles), Feltham (2.7 miles), Southall (2.8 miles), Ealing (3.9 miles), Greenford (4.2 miles).

What to think about for automating an existing door in Hounslow

  • Schools and community buildings in Hounslow may prefer the work done in holidays or after hours. Ask for any out-of-hours working to be priced in the quote.
  • Find out whether the door is a fire door. If it is, the operator must suit fire doors and be wired so the door closes when the alarm sounds.
  • Check how the door hangs now. A door that drops, rubs on the floor or needs a shoulder to close will need its hinges or frame sorted before an operator goes on.
  • Power is needed at the head of the door. If there is no supply close by, an electrician will need to run one, ideally hidden in trunking or the wall.
  • Shop fronts on high streets in Hounslow often have narrow aluminium frames. The survey checks the transom can carry the operator without flexing, and whether it needs reinforcing.

Standards and rules in England

Whoever motorises a manual door, or builds an automatic door from separate parts, may take on the manufacturer’s legal duties for the finished door: a risk assessment, a technical file kept available for the authorities, a Declaration of Conformity, the conformity marking and instructions. You receive the Declaration of Conformity and the instructions at handover. In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking.

Building regulations guidance in England (Approved Document M, Volume 2) says a powered opening system should be used where a self-closing entrance door would need more than 30 N at the leading edge to open, or more than 22.5 N between 30° and 60°, and expects external doors used by the public in new buildings to give at least 1000 mm of effective clear width.

How it works

  1. Tell us about the entrance. Send the address, a few photos and a rough size of the opening, and say how the door is used. That is enough for us to suggest options for automating an existing door and book a survey in Hounslow.
  2. Free site survey. A specialist engineer working under our management measures the opening, checks the frame, floor, head height and power, and talks through how people use the entrance. There is no charge and no obligation.
  3. Fixed written quote. You receive a fixed, itemised written quote with the specification, lead time, payment stages and warranty terms. The price does not change unless the scope does, and any change is agreed in writing first.
  4. Installation and handover. The door is fitted on the agreed dates, then set up, tested and documented with reference to BS EN 16005. You are shown the controls and the simple checks to make, and receive the handover paperwork.

Keep the door you have and make it automatic. Book a free survey in Hounslow and receive a written, itemised quote.

Automating an existing door in Hounslow: questions

How long will our door in Hounslow be out of use?

Usually half a day to a day per door. Where hinges, locks or glass are being changed as well, it can take longer. We plan the work so the building stays usable, and agree any out-of-hours working in the quote.

Can you give me a price for automating an existing door in Hounslow?

Our guide starts from £1,795 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. For homes that is from £2,154 including VAT. The free site survey in Hounslow confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Do you provide the paperwork for an automated door in Hounslow?

Yes. Motorising a manual door brings manufacturer's duties for the completed powered door, so when we automate a door we provide the risk assessment, test record, settings and conformity paperwork at handover. Keep them with your building records, as insurers, inspectors and future service engineers may ask to see them.

Can you automate a front door at a house in Hounslow?

Yes. Front doors at home are often automated for wheelchair users and people with limited grip, usually with an electric keep or lock so the door locks itself as it closes. Home prices are quoted including VAT, and the survey is free.

Is there a warranty on automating an existing door?

Yes. The warranty terms for the equipment and the installation are set out in your written quote, so you can see exactly what is covered before you accept. Keeping the door serviced at the recommended intervals helps keep it in good order, and the quote explains any conditions that apply to the warranty.

What power supply is needed for automating an existing door in Hounslow?

Most powered doors need a fused spur close to the operator, and some activation and access control devices also need a low-voltage link. The survey checks what is already there. If a new supply is required, the quote says whether we arrange it or your own electrician does, so nothing is left unclear on the day.

Which building regulations apply to a new automatic entrance in Hounslow?

In England the guidance is Approved Document M (Volume 2) for access, Approved Document B for fire safety and escape routes, and Approved Document K for glazing and powered doors. A new entrance can count as building work, so building control should be involved before it is ordered.
