Covering Cardiff and nearby
Homes, businesses and public buildings throughout the CF10, CF11, CF14, CF15, CF23 and CF24 postcode districts can arrange safety and compliance upgrades with us. We are the contracting party and organise every visit; the engineer, who works under our management, travels in to Cardiff for the job rather than working from premises in town.
Tall buildings can create strong wind at ground level, and wind pressure is a common cause of sliding doors stalling or reversing. Lobbies, telescopic leaves and correctly set closing force all help, and the engineer looks at exposure before recommending changes.
Nearby towns we also list for safety and compliance upgrades (straight-line distance): Penarth (2.9 miles), Caerphilly (6.7 miles), Barry (7.1 miles), Risca (9.5 miles), Newport (10.8 miles), Pontypridd (10.9 miles).
What to think about for safety and compliance upgrades in Cardiff
- Glass doors need visible markings. Faded manifestation is one of the cheapest findings to fix, and it helps people with visual impairments see the door.
- Doors serving care homes and hospitals in Cardiff may need wider safety zones and gentler closing speeds for residents and patients who move slowly or need help.
- Very old controllers may not support modern monitored sensors. In that case a new drive unit with sensors can cost less than several separate upgrades.
- Busy retail and public buildings in Cardiff may prefer upgrade work out of hours. Most single-door upgrades are completed in one visit, so disruption is limited.
- Shared entrances in office blocks need agreement on who pays for upgrades. The inspection report helps landlords and tenants agree the scope before work is ordered.

Standards and rules in Wales
Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible. BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them.
Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.
How it works
- Tell us about the entrance. Send the address, a few photos and a rough size of the opening, and say how the door is used. That is enough for us to suggest options for safety and compliance upgrades and book a survey in Cardiff.
- Free site survey. A specialist engineer working under our management measures the opening, checks the frame, floor, head height and power, and talks through how people use the entrance. There is no charge and no obligation.
- Fixed written quote. You receive a fixed, itemised written quote with the specification, lead time, payment stages and warranty terms. The price does not change unless the scope does, and any change is agreed in writing first.
- Installation and handover. The door is fitted on the agreed dates, then set up, tested and documented with reference to BS EN 16005. You are shown the controls and the simple checks to make, and receive the handover paperwork.
Send us your inspection report for doors in Cardiff, and we will arrange a free survey and quote each upgrade as a separate item.
Safety and compliance upgrades in Cardiff: questions
Is it cheaper to upgrade or replace our old door in Cardiff?
Upgrading is usually cheaper when the door and operator are sound. If the operator is old and several upgrades are needed, a new drive unit with new sensors may be better value overall. The survey compares the options, and the quote can show both so you can decide.
What is the guide price for safety and compliance upgrades in Cardiff?
Our guide starts from £195 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in Cardiff confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.
Do you carry out automatic door safety upgrades in Cardiff?
Yes. We quote and manage upgrade work in Cardiff, and the fitting is done by specialist automatic door engineers on our behalf. The survey is free, and each upgrade is priced separately on a fixed, itemised quote. After the work you receive a record of each change and its test results.
Will you document the upgrades on our door in Cardiff?
Yes. You receive a record of what was fitted, the settings and the test results, linked to each finding in the inspection report. Keep it with your service records for insurers, landlords or anyone else who asks how the door's risks have been dealt with.
How much disruption should we expect while the work is done in Cardiff?
Most installations take one visit or a short series of visits, with dust and noise kept to the area around the door. The engineer screens off the work area, keeps a route in or out where possible and clears up before leaving. Larger entrances, lobbies or structural changes take longer, and the quote explains how that work is phased.
Is there a warranty on safety and compliance upgrades?
Yes. The warranty terms for the equipment and the installation are set out in your written quote, so you can see exactly what is covered before you accept. Keeping the door serviced at the recommended intervals helps keep it in good order, and the quote explains any conditions that apply to the warranty.
Are the rules for automatic doors different in Wales?
Some are. Wales has its own building regulations guidance: Approved Document M (Wales) calls for a powered door where opening a self-closing entrance door would need more than 20 N, lower than the figure used in England. Fire law (the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005) and the Equality Act 2010 apply as in England.
