Covering Belfast and nearby

We cover the whole of the BT1, BT2, BT6, BT7, BT12 and BT13 postcode districts, along with nearby towns in County Antrim. You book each visit for safety and compliance upgrades directly with us, and a specialist automatic door engineer working under our management travels to your site on the agreed date.

Out-of-hours work is common in a city, where retail entrances may only be available before opening and office lobbies at weekends. Work in Belfast can be arranged early in the morning, in the evening or at weekends where the building needs it, with any extra cost shown in the written price.

Nearby towns we also list for safety and compliance upgrades (straight-line distance): Newtownabbey (4.4 miles), Holywood (5.0 miles), Dundonald (5.1 miles), Lisburn (6.7 miles), Comber (8.0 miles), Newtownards (9.4 miles).

What to think about for safety and compliance upgrades in Belfast

  • Very old controllers may not support modern monitored sensors. In that case a new drive unit with sensors can cost less than several separate upgrades.
  • Listed buildings and conservation areas in Belfast may limit visible changes. Slim sensors and discreet guards keep the look of the historic entrance largely unchanged.
  • Shared entrances in office blocks need agreement on who pays for upgrades. The inspection report helps landlords and tenants agree the scope before work is ordered.
  • Programme switches within reach of the public in Belfast should be key-operated or protected, so the door cannot be left in an unsafe mode by mistake.
  • Busy retail and public buildings in Belfast may prefer upgrade work out of hours. Most single-door upgrades are completed in one visit, so disruption is limited.

Standards and rules in Northern Ireland

Whoever motorises a manual door, or builds an automatic door from separate parts, may take on the manufacturer’s legal duties for the finished door: a risk assessment, a technical file kept available for the authorities, a Declaration of Conformity, the conformity marking and instructions. You receive the Declaration of Conformity and the instructions at handover. In Northern Ireland machinery, including a new or converted powered door, carries the CE marking (with UKNI added where a UK body carried out the conformity assessment), and the EU Machinery Regulation applies there from 20 January 2027.

Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible. BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them.

How it works

  1. Describe what you need. Whether the job is safety and compliance upgrades for a busy entrance or for a single internal door, a brief description and some photos let us understand it and plan a survey visit in Belfast.
  2. Free visit to the site. An engineer working under our management assesses the opening, the existing door and frame, the floor and the electrical supply, and notes any access, consent or timing issues to plan around.
  3. Your fixed quotation. The quote is fixed for the work it describes and lists each item, including any removal, making good and electrical work. It also states the lead time, the payment stages and the warranty terms.
  4. Fitting and sign-off. Work goes ahead on dates agreed with you. Once fitted, the door is adjusted and its safety functions are tested and recorded with reference to BS EN 16005, and you are shown how to use it.

Keep an older door in safe use. Arrange a free survey in Belfast and receive a quote that lists every upgrade on its own line.

Safety and compliance upgrades in Belfast: questions

How long do upgrades take at premises in Belfast?

Most single-door upgrades take one visit of a few hours. Parts such as light curtains and battery units are typically 1 to 3 weeks to arrive after the quote is accepted. Larger packages are planned with you so the entrance stays usable wherever possible.

What price range should I expect for safety and compliance upgrades in Belfast?

Our guide starts from £195 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in Belfast confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Our door in Belfast has no battery backup. Do we need one?

It depends on whether the door is on an escape route and what the fire strategy for the building requires. Doors on escape routes usually need to open, break out or be openable by hand if the power fails. The person responsible for fire safety in the building should confirm the requirement.

Can you quote from our existing inspection report in Belfast?

Yes. Send us the report and we will price each recommended action. If the door has changed since the report was written, or a finding is unclear, the engineer checks it on the free survey before the quote is finalised, so you only pay for what the door needs.

What does the free site survey in Belfast involve?

An engineer working under our management visits the building, measures the opening, checks the frame, floor, head height and power supply, and looks at how people use the entrance. The survey is free and carries no obligation. Afterwards you receive a fixed, itemised written quote for safety and compliance upgrades, with drawings where the door type needs them.

How much disruption should we expect while the work is done in Belfast?

Most installations take one visit or a short series of visits, with dust and noise kept to the area around the door. The engineer screens off the work area, keeps a route in or out where possible and clears up before leaving. Larger entrances, lobbies or structural changes take longer, and the quote explains how that work is phased.

Which accessibility law applies in Belfast?

In Northern Ireland the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 applies, because the Equality Act 2010 does not extend there. Service providers and employers are expected to make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, and an automatic door is a common one at entrances.
