Coverage across Tyne and Wear
Our coverage of Tyne and Wear is not tied to a depot or a showroom. Engineers who carry out automatic swing doors for us travel to each site, so a farm shop down a country lane goes through the same process as a city-centre office. Every job is priced in writing before work starts, and the town list below currently numbers 12.

What to think about for automatic swing doors in Tyne and Wear
- Doors on escape routes in Tyne and Wear usually open in the direction of escape. If the current door opens the other way, the survey will flag whether it should be changed before the operator is fitted.
- Toilet and changing room doors used by disabled people may suit a low-energy operator instead. The survey compares the options based on how busy the door is and who uses it.
- Fire doors need care. The operator must suit the door, keep its fire performance intact and close the door when the alarm sounds, so have the door's labels and records to hand for the survey.
- Check the hinges first. Older doors in Tyne and Wear often have worn hinges that would fail under an operator, so the survey may recommend heavier hinges or pivots.
- Electric locks must be coordinated with the operator, so the lock releases before the arm moves. Tell us about existing locks, card readers and intercoms at the survey.

Standards and rules in England
Building regulations guidance in England (Approved Document M, Volume 2) says a powered opening system should be used where a self-closing entrance door would need more than 30 N at the leading edge to open, or more than 22.5 N between 30° and 60°, and expects external doors used by the public in new buildings to give at least 1000 mm of effective clear width.
In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.
Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, which can include altering a physical feature such as a heavy entrance door. New entrances and some alterations count as building work, so check with building control before the work is ordered.
How it works
- Get in touch. Call, email or use the form with the address and what you have in mind. If you are not sure which type of door suits, describe the entrance and we will suggest the options worth considering.
- Survey and advice. The survey costs nothing and carries no obligation. The engineer checks the site and explains which options suit the entrance, the people using it and the budget, before anything is priced.
- Quote in writing. You receive a fixed, itemised quote for automatic swing doors in Tyne and Wear, covering equipment, installation, testing and handover, with the lead time and payment stages set out clearly.
- Install, test, explain. The engineer installs and commissions the door, tests the sensors, safety functions and emergency behaviour, and walks you through the controls. The handover pack records what was installed and tested.
Tell us how many doors you have in Tyne and Wear, and whether they are single or double, and we will arrange a free survey.
Automatic swing doors in Tyne and Wear: questions
How quickly can a swing operator be fitted in Tyne and Wear?
Operators for existing doors are typically 2 to 4 weeks from order. On site, a single door usually takes half a day to a day, and a pair about a day. We can plan work for evenings, weekends or holidays where the building is busy, with any extra cost shown in the quote.
Is there a guide price for automatic swing doors in Tyne and Wear?
Our guide starts from £2,495 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in Tyne and Wear confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.
Do you fit low-energy operators in Tyne and Wear as well?
Yes. Where a door is quieter and used mainly by people who need help opening it, a low-energy operator may be the better choice, as long as a risk assessment shows it is suitable. We compare full-energy and low-energy at the survey and explain the difference in the quote.
Is the survey for swing doors in Tyne and Wear free?
Yes, for new operators and doorsets the survey is free and carries no obligation. The engineer looks at each door, its hinges, frame, locks, power and fire labels, and you receive a fixed, itemised written quote for the work. Each door is priced separately, so the work can be phased if needed.
Can installation in Tyne and Wear happen outside opening hours?
Yes. Many shops, surgeries and offices prefer work early in the morning, in the evening or at weekends, when the entrance is quietest. Tell us your constraints when you enquire and they are built into the plan. Any extra cost for out-of-hours work is shown in the written quote rather than added afterwards.
What power supply is needed for automatic swing doors in Tyne and Wear?
Most powered doors need a fused spur close to the operator, and some activation and access control devices also need a low-voltage link. The survey checks what is already there. If a new supply is required, the quote says whether we arrange it or your own electrician does, so nothing is left unclear on the day.
Which building regulations apply to a new automatic entrance in Tyne and Wear?
In England the guidance is Approved Document M (Volume 2) for access, Approved Document B for fire safety and escape routes, and Approved Document K for glazing and powered doors. A new entrance can count as building work, so building control should be involved before it is ordered.
