Covering Falmouth and nearby

Homes, businesses and public buildings throughout the TR11 postcode district can arrange automatic swing doors with us. We are the contracting party and organise every visit; the engineer, who works under our management, travels in to Falmouth for the job rather than working from premises in town.

Many buildings in Falmouth are older, with timber frames, thick walls, steps or uneven thresholds. These affect where an operator and sensors can go, and the engineer checks them on site before anything is fitted or adjusted.

Nearby towns we also list for automatic swing doors (straight-line distance): Truro (7.7 miles), Redruth (8.7 miles), Camborne (10.8 miles), Newquay (18.0 miles), St Austell (18.5 miles), Penzance (20.8 miles).

What to think about for automatic swing doors in Falmouth

  • Doors on escape routes in Falmouth usually open in the direction of escape. If the current door opens the other way, the survey will flag whether it should be changed before the operator is fitted.
  • Doors that open into a corridor can strike people approaching from the side. Guard rails or extra sensors may be needed where the swing area meets a busy route.
  • Hospital and care home corridors in Falmouth need doors that open early enough for beds and trolleys. Radar sensors set to the right range, or a push pad placed before the door, keep traffic moving.
  • Toilet and changing room doors used by disabled people may suit a low-energy operator instead. The survey compares the options based on how busy the door is and who uses it.
  • Fire doors need care. The operator must suit the door, keep its fire performance intact and close the door when the alarm sounds, so have the door's labels and records to hand for the survey.

Standards and rules in England

Building regulations guidance in England (Approved Document M, Volume 2) says a powered opening system should be used where a self-closing entrance door would need more than 30 N at the leading edge to open, or more than 22.5 N between 30° and 60°, and expects external doors used by the public in new buildings to give at least 1000 mm of effective clear width.

In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.

How it works

  1. Tell us about the entrance. Send the address, a few photos and a rough size of the opening, and say how the door is used. That is enough for us to suggest options for automatic swing doors and book a survey in Falmouth.
  2. Free site survey. A specialist engineer working under our management measures the opening, checks the frame, floor, head height and power, and talks through how people use the entrance. There is no charge and no obligation.
  3. Fixed written quote. You receive a fixed, itemised written quote with the specification, lead time, payment stages and warranty terms. The price does not change unless the scope does, and any change is agreed in writing first.
  4. Installation and handover. The door is fitted on the agreed dates, then set up, tested and documented with reference to BS EN 16005. You are shown the controls and the simple checks to make, and receive the handover paperwork.

Tell us how many doors you have in Falmouth, and whether they are single or double, and we will arrange a free survey.

Automatic swing doors in Falmouth: questions

Do you fit low-energy operators in Falmouth as well?

Yes. Where a door is quieter and used mainly by people who need help opening it, a low-energy operator may be the better choice, as long as a risk assessment shows it is suitable. We compare full-energy and low-energy at the survey and explain the difference in the quote.

How are prices worked out for automatic swing doors in Falmouth?

Our guide starts from £2,495 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in Falmouth confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Can our existing doors in Falmouth be automated?

Usually, if the doors, hinges and frames are in good condition. The survey checks the door weight, the hinges, what the operator will fix to and what sits in the swing path. Where a door is too worn, we will say so and quote a new doorset with the operator fitted instead.

Can you fit automatic swing door operators in Falmouth?

Yes. We arrange supply and installation of swing operators for doors in Falmouth and throughout Cornwall. The work is carried out by specialist automatic door engineers working under our management, and we stay the contracting party from the survey through to handover and any servicing afterwards.

What power supply is needed for automatic swing doors in Falmouth?

Most powered doors need a fused spur close to the operator, and some activation and access control devices also need a low-voltage link. The survey checks what is already there. If a new supply is required, the quote says whether we arrange it or your own electrician does, so nothing is left unclear on the day.

What is the lead time for automatic swing doors in Falmouth?

Lead times depend on the door type and what has to be made to order. As a guide, operators and accessible door kits are typically two to four weeks from order, and complete sliding entrances typically four to eight weeks from drawing approval. Curved, revolving and hermetic doors usually take longer. The expected lead time is stated in your quote.

Who is responsible for automatic doors on escape routes in Falmouth?

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 the responsible person for the premises must make sure escape routes work and fire safety equipment is maintained. Automatic doors on an escape route need fail-safe opening or break-out, set by the fire strategy.
