What to think about for automatic internal doors in Dundee and Angus
- Schools and colleges in Dundee and Angus often prefer corridor work in the holidays. Book the survey early in the term before, so doors and operators can be ordered and delivered in time.
- Check the fire rating of each door before the survey. Fire doors need operators made for them, and fixings and cables must not weaken the rating.
- Hospitals in Dundee and Angus usually have estates teams with their own standards for door widths, controls and fire alarm interfaces. Share those early so the quote matches them.
- Measure what passes through the door, not just the door. Beds, hoists, trolleys and catering equipment can need a wider opening than the current door gives.
- Each automated door needs power at the head. In older buildings in Dundee and Angus, running new supplies through finished corridors can be a significant part of the cost.

Standards and rules in Scotland
Under the Equality Act 2010, service providers and employers in Scotland must make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, which can include altering a physical feature such as a heavy entrance door. Fitting an automatic door helps, but does not on its own guarantee those duties are met.
Scottish building standards guidance (the non-domestic Technical Handbook) expects an accessible entrance door to give a clear opening of at least 800 mm, says powered doors improve accessibility as long as they add no new hazard, and expects signage, sensors that hold the door open long enough, and guarding against collision or entrapment.
Whoever motorises a manual door, or builds an automatic door from separate parts, may take on the manufacturer’s legal duties for the finished door: a risk assessment, a technical file kept available for the authorities, a Declaration of Conformity, the conformity marking and instructions. You receive the Declaration of Conformity and the instructions at handover. In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking.
How it works
- Tell us about the entrance. Send the address, a few photos and a rough size of the opening, and say how the door is used. That is enough for us to suggest options for automatic internal doors and book a survey in Dundee and Angus.
- Free site survey. A specialist engineer working under our management measures the opening, checks the frame, floor, head height and power, and talks through how people use the entrance. There is no charge and no obligation.
- Fixed written quote. You receive a fixed, itemised written quote with the specification, lead time, payment stages and warranty terms. The price does not change unless the scope does, and any change is agreed in writing first.
- Installation and handover. The door is fitted on the agreed dates, then set up, tested and documented with reference to BS EN 16005. You are shown the controls and the simple checks to make, and receive the handover paperwork.

Automatic internal doors in Dundee and Angus: questions
How disruptive is the work in an occupied building in Dundee and Angus?
Usually less than people expect. Most swing operators take half a day to a day per door, and sliding doors a little longer. We plan the order of work to keep routes open, control dust, and agree any out-of-hours working in the quote.
Is there a guide price for automatic internal doors in Dundee and Angus?
Our guide starts from £1,795 excluding VAT (per door), the same guide price we use across the UK. The free site survey in Dundee and Angus confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.
Can you automate the corridor doors in our care home in Dundee and Angus?
Yes. We survey each door, including its fire rating, hinges, frame and power, and quote a fixed price. Doors can be set to open gently and slowly, with extra safety sensors where residents are frail. Work is planned around your care routines and agreed with the home manager.
Can internal doors at our offices in Dundee and Angus be linked to access control?
Yes. Card readers, fob readers or keypads can control who passes into staff areas, and the door opens automatically once access is granted. Locks release on the fire alarm where the fire strategy requires, and we can connect to an existing access control system or supply a standalone one.
Can automatic doors be fitted to a listed building in Dundee and Angus?
Often, yes, but listed building consent is normally needed for changes that affect the character of the building, inside or out. Slim operators, concealed fixings and automating the existing door can all reduce the visual impact. Speak to the conservation officer at the local planning authority early; we can provide drawings and specifications to help.
What should I send before the survey in Dundee and Angus?
A few photos of the door from inside and outside, rough measurements of the opening, the address and a note of how the entrance is used. If the door already has an operator, a photo of any label on it helps. With that, the engineer arrives prepared, the survey takes less of your time and we can put the quote for automatic internal doors together more easily.
Who is responsible for automatic doors on escape routes in Dundee and Angus?
The person responsible for fire safety under the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 for those premises. Scottish guidance allows automatic doors on escape routes only where they fail safely to outward opening or have a monitored fail-safe system that opens them on power failure, sensor failure and fire alarm.
