Automatic entrance lobbies in Hove

Adding an inner set of doors to an existing entrance is often the simplest way to form a lobby in Hove. We check the depth, the floor and the power, then quote for the new doors, the screens and the link between the two sets.

Covering Hove and nearby

From shops and surgeries to schools, care homes and private houses, any building in the BN3 and BN41 postcode districts can be covered for automatic entrance lobbies. Specialist engineers working under our management carry out the work, and you deal with us as the contracting party from start to finish.

Health centres, GP surgeries and clinics around Hove need doors that open gently and stay open long enough for patients using walking aids or wheelchairs. Low-energy operators, push pads and careful sensor set-up matter more here than sheer speed.

Nearby towns we also list for automatic entrance lobbies (straight-line distance): Brighton (1.2 miles), Shoreham-by-Sea (4.7 miles), Lancing (6.8 miles), Peacehaven (7.5 miles), Lewes (8.2 miles), Burgess Hill (8.9 miles).

What to think about for automatic entrance lobbies in Hove

  • If the lobby is on an escape route, the fire strategy decides what both door sets do on alarm. Sequencing and interlocks must release so nothing stops people leaving.
  • Consider deliveries and bulky items. If trolleys or stock come through the front entrance, a switch that holds both sets open for short periods saves staff waiting on the sequencing.
  • High street units in Hove often have narrow, shallow shop fronts. An internal lobby may take sales space, so a glazed porch or a sliding outer set with a swing inner set can be a better fit.
  • Work on a lobby in Hove takes longer than a door swap. Ask for the programme in writing, including which entrance stays usable each day and any out-of-hours working.
  • Measure the depth you can give the lobby before settling on a layout. A lobby that is too shallow lets both sets open together and loses most of its benefit.

Standards and rules in England

In Great Britain a new or converted powered door must meet the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 before it is first used, and can carry the UKCA or the CE marking. Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance.

Building regulations guidance in England (Approved Document M, Volume 2) says a powered opening system should be used where a self-closing entrance door would need more than 30 N at the leading edge to open, or more than 22.5 N between 30° and 60°, and expects external doors used by the public in new buildings to give at least 1000 mm of effective clear width.

How it works

  1. Send photos and the address. A few pictures of the door from both sides, the address in Hove and a note of who uses the entrance help us understand the job before anyone visits the site.
  2. No-cost survey on site. We arrange a survey at a time that suits the building. The engineer records measurements, fixings and power, plus any constraints such as listed status, opening hours or access for deliveries.
  3. Itemised quote to approve. We price every element of the work on automatic entrance lobbies separately in a written quote that you can check, share and approve. Lead time and payment stages are stated, and nothing is ordered until you accept.
  4. Fit, test and hand over. On the agreed dates the engineer installs the equipment, commissions the operator and tests each safety function. You get a demonstration, the test record and any conformity paperwork that applies to the work.

Automatic entrance lobbies in Hove: questions

Do you design lobbies for new buildings in Hove?

Yes. We can work from the architect's drawings, suggest door types and depth, and quote the doors, screens and controls as one package for the main contractor or the client. Designing the lobby in at the start is usually simpler and cheaper than adding it later.

What will automatic entrance lobbies in Hove cost?

Our guide is £14,995 to £34,995 excluding VAT (per lobby, doors and screens), the same guide prices we use across the UK. The free site survey in Hove confirms the price as a fixed, itemised written quote, and the guide price tool gives you a range before anyone visits.

Can you look after the lobby doors in Hove after installation?

We can arrange planned servicing for both door sets, checking sequencing, safety sensors and alarm releases at each visit and leaving a written record. Servicing is charged per visit, and the price is confirmed in writing before an engineer comes out.

How will a lobby cope with the weather in Hove?

The survey looks at which way the entrance faces and how exposed it is. In windy or wet spots, a deeper lobby, a right-angle layout or doors with stronger seals and wind settings help. A good matting well deals with the water that still comes in on shoes.

Will the building stay secure while the entrance is being changed?

We plan to keep the entrance usable or secure throughout. Where a door has to come out, the work is sequenced so the opening is closed up before the engineer leaves, or a temporary door or hoarding is arranged when a longer gap cannot be avoided. How this is handled for your site in Hove is agreed before work starts.

What happens once the installation in Hove is finished?

The engineer tests every function, including the safety sensors and the behaviour on power loss, and sets the door up with reference to BS EN 16005. You are shown how to use the controls and which simple checks to make, and you receive the handover documents, including the test record and any conformity paperwork that applies to the work.

Who is responsible for automatic doors on escape routes in Hove?

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 the responsible person for the premises must make sure escape routes work and fire safety equipment is maintained. Automatic doors on an escape route need fail-safe opening or break-out, set by the fire strategy.
