Covering Motherwell and nearby
We cover the whole of the ML1 postcode district, along with nearby towns in Lanarkshire. You book each visit for automatic door servicing directly with us, and a specialist automatic door engineer working under our management travels to your site on the agreed date.
Doors at quieter sites in Motherwell and elsewhere in Lanarkshire can go many years between checks. A safety inspection looks at how the sensors, closing behaviour and emergency functions are working, and gives you a written record to keep on file.
Nearby towns we also list for automatic door servicing (straight-line distance): Bellshill (2.1 miles), Hamilton (2.2 miles), Wishaw (3.3 miles), Larkhall (4.0 miles), Blantyre (4.0 miles), Coatbridge (5.2 miles).
What to think about for automatic door servicing in Motherwell
- Doors on busy high streets in Motherwell can cycle hundreds of times a day. Heavy use wears belts, rollers and floor guides faster, so these doors usually need more frequent visits.
- Care homes and hospitals in Motherwell often need visits planned around mealtimes, medication rounds and visiting hours, so the door is not out of use at the busiest times.
- Keep the programme switch key and any operator access keys on site. Engineers need them to change modes and test the door properly during the visit.
- Doors on escape routes need their break-out or power-failure opening tested at every service. Tell us which doors serve escape routes so the engineer checks the right functions.
- Business parks and retail parks in Motherwell may have doors owned by the landlord and doors leased with the unit. Check who is responsible for servicing each door before booking.
Automatic door servicing in Motherwell: guide prices
The visit price is agreed in writing before an engineer attends; parts and any further work are quoted before they are done. Guide price: from £145 ex VAT (£174 inc VAT).
| Item | Guide price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Single service visit, first door on site | £145 – £245 | checks, adjustment and service record, ex VAT; homes £174 – £294 inc VAT |
| Each additional door on the same visit | £60 – £120 | ex VAT; homes £72 – £144 inc VAT |
| Service contract, one visit a year | £145 – £245 | first door, per year, visit booked in advance at a fixed price, ex VAT; homes £174 – £294 inc VAT |
| Service contract, two visits a year | £270 – £460 | first door, per year, ex VAT; additional doors at the per-visit rate above; homes £324 – £552 inc VAT |
No law sets a fixed service interval. We recommend a safety check by a trained engineer at least once a year, and more frequent visits for busy doors. Repairs found during a service are quoted before they are done.
Standards and rules in Scotland
BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them. Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible.
Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance. HSE guidance on those regulations says the frequency of maintenance depends on the equipment and the manufacturer’s information.
How it works
- Explain the problem. Whether the door is stuck, slow, noisy or due its next check, a short description and a few photos tell us which kind of visit to book for automatic door servicing and what to bring.
- Visit cost agreed. You get the visit price in writing before we book the engineer. There are no hidden extras: parts and further work are always quoted separately and in advance.
- Engineer on site. The engineer inspects the operator, sensors, tracks and leaves, carries out the repair or service, and runs the door through its safety tests before it goes back into use.
- Follow-up quoted. You are sent a record of the visit. If something else needs attention, we quote it in writing; for doors on a service plan, the next visit date is noted on the record.
Book a planned service in Motherwell with the price agreed before the engineer arrives. A written report for each door follows the visit.
Automatic door servicing in Motherwell: questions
Can you service doors in Motherwell outside opening hours?
Visits early in the morning, in the evening or at weekends can often be arranged where the building needs it, although they may be priced differently. Tell us your opening hours and busiest times when you book, and the visit price we agree will reflect the time slot.
What do you charge for automatic door servicing in Motherwell?
Our guide starts from £145 excluding VAT (per visit, first door), the same guide price we use across the UK. For homes that is from £174 including VAT. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends in Motherwell, and quote any parts or further work before doing them. The price guide lists typical repair and service costs.
Will servicing help with our insurer or landlord in Motherwell?
Many insurers and landlords ask for evidence that automatic doors are maintained. A written service report for each door, kept in a logbook or digital folder, is the usual way to show that. If they ask for a risk assessment against BS EN 16005, a safety inspection can be added.
How often should doors in Motherwell be serviced?
There is no fixed legal interval. We recommend a trained engineer checks the safety functions at least once a year, with the interval set by the manufacturer's instructions and how heavily the door is used. Busy entrances, such as shops and surgeries, are often serviced every six months.
What should I tell you when reporting a fault in Motherwell?
The address, the type of door, what it is doing or not doing, when the problem started and whether it is safe to use. A photo of the operator label showing the make, and a short video of the fault, help a great deal. With that, we can agree the visit price in writing and send an engineer with the right parts where possible.
How is the visit price set for work in Motherwell?
We agree the visit price with you in writing before an engineer attends. It is based on the type of door, the work requested and the location. If parts or further work are needed once the engineer has found the cause, those are quoted before they are done, so the cost never moves without your agreement.
Can a home in Motherwell get help paying for a door opener?
Scotland does not have Disabled Facilities Grants. Councils help through their Scheme of Assistance, which can include a grant for essential permanent adaptations. Ask your council whether a powered door opener could be included.
