Covering Wigan and nearby

Requests for automatic door servicing in Wigan are handled by us and passed to a specialist engineer working under our management. Coverage includes the WN1 and WN3 postcode districts: town-centre premises, business and retail sites, public buildings and residential streets alike.

Hospitals, universities and large public buildings in and around Wigan often have dozens of automatic doors on one estate, from main entrances to ward and corridor doors. Grouping surveys, servicing and inspections across a site keeps records in one place and visits efficient.

Nearby towns we also list for automatic door servicing (straight-line distance): Hindley (2.3 miles), Ashton-in-Makerfield (4.2 miles), Westhoughton (4.6 miles), Golborne (4.9 miles), Horwich (5.4 miles), Haydock (5.5 miles).

What to think about for automatic door servicing in Wigan

  • Doors on escape routes need their break-out or power-failure opening tested at every service. Tell us which doors serve escape routes so the engineer checks the right functions.
  • Doors on busy high streets in Wigan can cycle hundreds of times a day. Heavy use wears belts, rollers and floor guides faster, so these doors usually need more frequent visits.
  • Battery backup units wear out over time. Testing them at each service shows whether the door will still open or close safely in a power cut.
  • A logbook kept near the door, or a shared digital folder, makes it simple to show service history in Wigan when an insurer, landlord or inspector asks for it.
  • Older doors in Wigan may need parts replaced more often as they age. A service history that tracks wear helps you budget for repairs or a new drive unit before a breakdown.

Automatic door servicing in Wigan: guide prices

The visit price is agreed in writing before an engineer attends; parts and any further work are quoted before they are done. Guide price: from £145 ex VAT (£174 inc VAT).

No law sets a fixed service interval. We recommend a safety check by a trained engineer at least once a year, and more frequent visits for busy doors. Repairs found during a service are quoted before they are done.

Standards and rules in England

Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance. HSE guidance on those regulations says the frequency of maintenance depends on the equipment and the manufacturer’s information.

BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them. Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible.

How it works

  1. Explain the problem. Whether the door is stuck, slow, noisy or due its next check, a short description and a few photos tell us which kind of visit to book for automatic door servicing and what to bring.
  2. Visit cost agreed. You get the visit price in writing before we book the engineer. There are no hidden extras: parts and further work are always quoted separately and in advance.
  3. Engineer on site. The engineer inspects the operator, sensors, tracks and leaves, carries out the repair or service, and runs the door through its safety tests before it goes back into use.
  4. Follow-up quoted. You are sent a record of the visit. If something else needs attention, we quote it in writing; for doors on a service plan, the next visit date is noted on the record.

Automatic door servicing in Wigan: questions

Will servicing help with our insurer or landlord in Wigan?

Many insurers and landlords ask for evidence that automatic doors are maintained. A written service report for each door, kept in a logbook or digital folder, is the usual way to show that. If they ask for a risk assessment against BS EN 16005, a safety inspection can be added.

What will automatic door servicing in Wigan cost?

Our guide starts from £145 excluding VAT (per visit, first door), the same guide price we use across the UK. For homes that is from £174 including VAT. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends in Wigan, and quote any parts or further work before doing them. The price guide lists typical repair and service costs.

Do you service revolving and folding doors in Wigan?

Yes, as well as sliding and swing doors. Revolving and folding doors have more moving parts and extra safety devices, so their services take longer and are priced accordingly. The checklist used for each door type is set out in its service report.

Do you service doors in Wigan that another company installed?

Yes. We service most powered pedestrian doors, whoever fitted them. The first visit records each door's make, model, condition and any concerns, so later reports can be compared. If parts are no longer made for one of your doors, we let you know early so a replacement can be planned.

What should I tell you when reporting a fault in Wigan?

The address, the type of door, what it is doing or not doing, when the problem started and whether it is safe to use. A photo of the operator label showing the make, and a short video of the fault, help a great deal. With that, we can agree the visit price in writing and send an engineer with the right parts where possible.

How soon can an engineer get to Wigan?

We do not promise response times. When you book, we give you the earliest date we can offer and confirm it once the price is agreed. If the door is unsafe in the meantime, it is usually best to switch it off or set it to a safe mode, put up a sign and keep people clear of it.

Which building regulations apply to a new automatic entrance in Wigan?

In England the guidance is Approved Document M (Volume 2) for access, Approved Document B for fire safety and escape routes, and Approved Document K for glazing and powered doors. A new entrance can count as building work, so building control should be involved before it is ordered.
