Covering Forfar and nearby
Sites across the DD8 postcode district are visited by specialist automatic door engineers working under our management. They travel to Forfar for automatic door servicing as bookings come in, so dates depend on the diary rather than a fixed local team, and we give you the earliest date we can offer when you book.
Parking on a busy high street can be tight. When work is booked in Forfar, the engineer's arrival is planned around loading restrictions, any market days and opening hours, so the visit causes as little disruption as possible.
Nearby towns we also list for automatic door servicing (straight-line distance): Carnoustie (12.0 miles), Dundee (12.5 miles), Arbroath (12.8 miles), Montrose (16.8 miles), Blairgowrie (17.5 miles), St Andrews (21.4 miles).
What to think about for automatic door servicing in Forfar
- Doors on escape routes need their break-out or power-failure opening tested at every service. Tell us which doors serve escape routes so the engineer checks the right functions.
- Schools and colleges in Forfar often prefer servicing during holidays or after hours. Plan visits early in the year so they fall when the buildings are quiet.
- Battery backup units wear out over time. Testing them at each service shows whether the door will still open or close safely in a power cut.
- If several buildings share one maintenance budget, a single contract with one price per door and one set of records is easier to manage than booking visits separately.
- Business parks and retail parks in Forfar may have doors owned by the landlord and doors leased with the unit. Check who is responsible for servicing each door before booking.

No law sets a fixed service interval. We recommend a safety check by a trained engineer at least once a year, and more frequent visits for busy doors. Repairs found during a service are quoted before they are done.
Standards and rules in Scotland
BS EN 16005 is the current standard for the safety in use of powered pedestrian doors, and BS 7036-0:2014 is the British code of practice for risk assessment and risk reduction used alongside it. Standards are not law in themselves, but they are the recognised benchmark for showing an automatic door is safe to use, and we set up, test and document doors with reference to them. Standards are not retrospective, so an older door does not become unlawful when a standard is updated; a site-specific risk assessment shows whether any upgrades are sensible.
Workplace law (the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992) expects powered doors to have suitable and effective features to stop them trapping anyone and, where needed for safety, to open by hand unless they open automatically if the power fails. Doors at work must also be kept in efficient working order under a suitable system of maintenance. HSE guidance on those regulations says the frequency of maintenance depends on the equipment and the manufacturer’s information.
How it works
- Report the fault or service. Let us know whether the door has failed, is behaving oddly or is simply due a service or safety inspection. A short video of the problem helps the engineer prepare for the visit.
- Agree the price first. Before anyone travels to Forfar, the visit price is set out in writing. It is based on the door type, the work requested and the location, so you know the cost in advance.
- Diagnose, repair, test. On site, the engineer finds the cause and puts it right where the parts are to hand, or completes the planned service. Sensors, safety functions and emergency behaviour are checked before the door returns to use.
- Paperwork and next steps. A written record of the visit is left with you or sent afterwards. If parts must be ordered or more work is advisable, it is quoted separately and only goes ahead once you accept.

Automatic door servicing in Forfar: questions
Will servicing help with our insurer or landlord in Forfar?
Many insurers and landlords ask for evidence that automatic doors are maintained. A written service report for each door, kept in a logbook or digital folder, is the usual way to show that. If they ask for a risk assessment against BS EN 16005, a safety inspection can be added.
How much should I budget for automatic door servicing in Forfar?
Our guide starts from £145 excluding VAT (per visit, first door), the same guide price we use across the UK. For homes that is from £174 including VAT. We agree the visit price in writing before an engineer attends in Forfar, and quote any parts or further work before doing them. The price guide lists typical repair and service costs.
Do you service revolving and folding doors in Forfar?
Yes, as well as sliding and swing doors. Revolving and folding doors have more moving parts and extra safety devices, so their services take longer and are priced accordingly. The checklist used for each door type is set out in its service report.
Can one contract cover all our buildings in Forfar and nearby?
Yes. A contract can list every door across your sites, with the visits per year and the price for each door. One schedule and one set of service reports make it easier to keep records complete, and repair visits between services are charged at the contract rates.
What if a door in Forfar is found to be unsafe?
The engineer explains the problem and, where needed, leaves the door in a safe state, for example switched off or set so it cannot trap or strike anyone. You receive a written note of the issue. The repair or upgrade that would put it right is quoted before any further work is carried out.
How soon can an engineer get to Forfar?
We do not promise response times. When you book, we give you the earliest date we can offer and confirm it once the price is agreed. If the door is unsafe in the meantime, it is usually best to switch it off or set it to a safe mode, put up a sign and keep people clear of it.
Is a building warrant needed for a new automatic entrance in Forfar?
Often, yes. Most building work in Scotland needs a building warrant before it starts, and the non-domestic Technical Handbook sets out what an accessible entrance should provide, including a clear opening of at least 800 mm. We tell you at the survey if your job is likely to need one.
